so many of my pet peeves with historical costuming in film boil down to: why set it in that era if you're not gonna have fun with the contemporary style?
#like say a film is set in a 1920s city im gonna be really thrown off if the actresses are wearing modern makeup#(even if its 'no makeup makeup')#and if an actress doesn't want to pluck her eyebrows super thin that's totally fine! not every woman in the 20s did#but doing modern eyebrow makeup instead just looks SO off. just draw a thin brow over the unplucked brow with a darker pencil. easy!#and i know no one dressed 100% exactly how people dressed in magazines & catalogs & fashion plates & illustrations all the time#or even very often#and i genuinely don't expect perfect accuracy#i just wish people would stop designing *historical* costumes to look cool by *modern* standards#whats dorky now was cool back then! *they* thought they were super cool back in the day#embrace it! embrace the eccentricities of the time! do it!#mickey.txt
