i'm ngl i think on a certain level, shuu is the funniest character in all hatoful. this isn't even about the fact his morbid / murder-y humor is very to my taste, i mean moreso on the side of how all the characters are written
like i've mentioned before that my favorite thing about hatoful is how morally gray the game's writing is. how, honestly speaking, most of the major characters aren't exactly fully innocent in the grand scheme of things, but it's hard not to sympathize and understand where they were coming from with whatever crimes might be up their sleeve - hitori's gone through more trauma then any one person could withstand and i do not blame him for wanting to avenge his last remaining family, yuuya was young and in a position where he had no good options, ryouta was so broken down by the end of bbl by going through so much in such a short span of time that if there's anyone who genuinely blames him for simply going along with what shuu wanted, then clearly they just don't understand how draining and awful going through that much would feel, ect ect.
For every poor mistake, there is genuinely sympathetic reasoning behind why someone would do that.
and then there's shuu.
i think the most that could be said in defense of him still isn't really a proper defense tbh. the most one could really say is just bringing up how he was practically raised by the hawk party - ya know, the group who wants all humans dead. growing up surrounded by very specific beliefs like that will have a strong effect on how you think and live your life. breaking out of the mold that you were raised with is honestly a lot easier said then done.
but like... when his goals in BBL are just straight-up genocide, when he's just killing students whenever he feels like for whatever he feels like, especially when this is when he as a grown-ass adult who is now VERY capable of thinking for himself, breaking away from the hawk's beliefs, and realizing the very basic "wait maybe its not good to kill all humans," then it doesn't really matter how you grew up! that straight up makes you an evil person!
especially the student murdering tbh cause the whole hawk party thing doesn't really cover that. they want birds to thrive, and murdering other birds doesn't exactly uh. it doesn't rlly fit with that lmao
it's just so comically over the top evil. this is like you plucked one of those 'teehee imma destroy the world' antagonists from a saturday morning cartoon and dropped him into a story full of characters of multi-faceted, morally complex characters. he just kind of sucks and tbh i love that for him.
#hatoful boyfriend#shuu#shuu iwamine#i see all the shuu-hating mutuals rising up today and honestly#even as a shuu-liker. all the power to ya#you're right! however the difference between yall and me is that i think he's hilarious#and i'm simply incapable of getting mad at characters that make me laugh#if you're funny then you can do whatever crimes you want. it's fine probably.#also on that ending point#that's not to say shuu isn't a very complex character as well ofc#but his morality is def non as nuanced as the others so#magical girl yoshi
