Hair dye and Soulmates

Paring: Chifuyu Matsuno x Reader

Summary: Everyone has a soulmate connection, they come in all different styles, yours is you have a section of hair that matches your soulmate’s current color and changes if they dye it. 

Warnings: shit used once, other than that none that I can think of.

A/n: Hello peoples, This fic is dedicated to Chifuyu Matsuno for his birthday. Even if the theme isn’t about his birthday I thought it was cute so HAPPY BIRTHDAY Chifuyu. Also as I'm posting this for his birthday it will be part of my winter fic event even though it isn't wintery. Anyway I hope you enjoy and Remember to hydrate or diedrate.

    Having a soulmate was a relief for many, it gave people hope that one day they would meet the person that will love them unconditionally. Unfortunately the way to find your soulmate is a little less than perfect. It’s different for everyone, some have a timer counting down to the day they will meet, others can hear each other's thoughts, but for me, I’m stuck with a chunk of hair that matches my soulmate’s hair and vice versa. This would be fine if they didn’t have blonde hair. Hair color marks are fairly common but that just makes it difficult to find your soulmate unless one partner dyes their hair a crazy color to help notice each other in a crowd.

   Every morning I would wake up hoping my soulmate had gotten tired of the wait and finally dyed their hair to make it easier, but every morning I’m faced with the same blonde streak at the front of my hair. Around my last year of high school I got tired of waiting, so one Saturday I bought the stuff and dyed my hair bright blue. Sadly when I got to school on monday morning none of the blonde students at my school who had the color connection had a stripe of blue in their hair. Even though I didn’t find them that day, I decided that I would keep dying my hair crazy colors until I finally found them.

   A few years after high school, I got an opportunity to move to Tokyo for work. With no luck on the soulmate front in my hometown, especially after their hair changed from blonde to black, I figured why not, and accepted the offer. Within a month I was moving me and my dog into a small apartment in the heart of Japan. 

   While I was unpacking I remembered I needed to find a pet store nearby to get some food for  my sweet husky. After getting the essentials taken care of in the apartment, I sat down to look up pet stores hoping there would still be one open close by as it was fast approaching evening. To my surprise there was one just down the street called XJ Land, but they would be closing in about thirty minutes. Deciding this was the best option so I wouldn’t be wandering the city as the sun set, I quickly grabbed a coat and my keys before bidding my dog goodbye, and left to hopefully get dog food before this place closes.

   As I entered the shop I was greeted by the worker at the counter. “Welcome in, we will be closing shortly just so you are aware.” He said as he went back to looking at his phone. I smiled looking at him, noticing a large tattoo on his neck, thanking him I went to the wall of pet food.

  Reaching the wall I started looking for a food that would work for my dog. Completely lost in thought, I failed to notice another person in the store. “Hey Kazutora, you can head out, I'll finish everything up here.” A new voice called out from the end of the aisle I was on, making me jump. It seemed the person noticed me as they then spoke to me. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize we had a customer. Is there anything I can help you find?” The person asked as I overcame my shock.

   I took a second before answering, having turned back to the wall of food. “I’m looking for good food for my dog. I just moved here and can’t seem to find the kind I normally get. Do you maybe have any recommendations?” I asked, turning to look at the person next to me.  Before the person could respond we both froze. The young man had jet black hair except for a small chunk in the middle of his bangs that was currently bright purple. It was the exact opposite of my head full of purple hair with a black chunk in my bangs. “Holy shit” I was all I could say realizing what was going on.

   “I’m Chifuyu Matsuno, and I’m guessing you’re my soulmate.” The Green eyed man said, offering his hand for me to shake. I accepted it and quietly introduced myself. “I like the hair all though I do have to say the time it was pink, was not fun.” He said with a smile.

   “Sorry about that.” I said, still in shock from having met my soulmate in a pet store. “I was just trying to make it easier to find you. I thought my soulmate was just covering the piece with their hair and figured that pink would shine through your blonde hair and make it easier.” I explained my choice, receiving a chuckle from him.

   “It’s all good, the gang just liked to poke fun. Anyways about the food for your dog, I personally have a cat but many customers have said this is the best one for dogs.” The man named Chifuyu explained. I nodded before reaching to grab the bag from the shelf, only to be stopped by him grabbing iot for me. “I’ll carry it for you, don’t worry.” I was stunned, I came into this shop fifteen minutes before it closed and now my soulmate is carrying dog food to the counter for me. 

   As we got to the counter, he placed the food down and walked around it to ring me up. “So Y/l/n, what made you move here?” He asked as he pressed a few buttons on the till’s screen. 

   “I was offered a job at a local beauty school, teaching students how to dye hair.” I explained briefly. Before I continued talking he told me the total, though I was shocked to hear it was significantly cheaper than what the price listed on the shelf. “Ok, here’s the money but I thought it was more than that. Won’t you get in trouble for giving me a discount?” I asked hoping I wouldn’t be costing my soulmate his job, after just one meeting.

  He just smirked at me, about to speak before the man with the neck tattoo left the back room and interrupted the conversation. “He can’t get in trouble for giving discounts if it’s his store. Anyway, have a good night Chifuyu and don’t stay up too late or Keisuke will kick your ass if you’re late.” The man I think Chifuyu called Kazutora earlier said walking out. I just looked back at Chifuyu in shock.

   “You own this store.” I said in shock. “I can’t let you lose money just to give me a discount Matsuno.” I continued trying to get him to let me pay full price.

   “One call me Chifuyu. Two, If I want my soulmate to pay less than half price at my own store, my soulmate is not paying anything more than that.” He said finishing the transaction before I could give him any more cash to cover the full price of the bag. “Anyway, do you live too far from here? If you’re fine with waiting for me to close up I can walk you home.” Chifuyu offered, flipping the open sign to closed.

   I paused thinking for a second. “I live just down the road, I can get home on my own. Thank you though. Also if I’m supposed to call you Chifuyu, you can call me Y/n.” I said moving to grab the bag of food from the counter.

   I watched as he hesitated before nodding. “Okay, If you’re sure. At least let me give you my phone number and you can call me if you need anything ok?” He asked and I could hear the slight concern in his voice.

   Nodding I handed him my phone to enter his number, smiling when he handed it back. He saved his contact as ‘Soulmate 😻’. I sent him a quick text so he could save my number, before bidding him goodnight. With that I headed home to feed my dog and sleep.

   I knew moving to Tokyo would give me a better chance of finding my soulmate but I didn’t think it would be the first night. Anyway when I got home I sent Chifuyu a message letting him know I got home safe, and received a ‘great, have good night’ text in response. After feeding my dog, I decided it was time to sleep and I drifted off with the thoughts of how great my life will be now that I’ve finally found my person.

I fell for his gains, then stayed for the character development. I love his character design, especially his face. I find him beautiful, not like a flower or an ikemen, but like a wild beast. And this just gets me... When reading the manga, I thought he had black and blond hair like Kazutora and at first it was weird to see the colored covers but then I fell for this palette too. The tattoos, especially the quote. The grin, the canines. The eyes. THE NOSE!?!?!?! PLEASE, HIS NOSE?!!?! *That* side profile in the restaurant scene was the real matchmaker, not even his beefy back and shoulders.

I love what a sinner he is, how lonely he is in the end. I love his intensity, his confidence, his strength. That he can stand up and change. (And also, thank you, Wakui-sensei, for not flipping his personality completely in his redemption...) I love that he is so capable, that he "made it" in life, without becoming a criminal. ALSO HIS NAME?!?!? EXCUSE ME?! The sound of it, and the characters too... please...

There is no other character I drew so many times and I still wish I could have done more. I want to do more. Bigger, better. He changed the way I draw forever. My passion for drawing him made me realise what I like to do the most and I developed my art style through drawing him. I struggled a lot with finding out what I wanna do and how. There are a million ways to do an artwork and I easily get lost in planning and not doing... But as long as it was him, it was fine, cause at least I was having fun. I wasn't anxious anymore. It wasn't like other characters I like, those who are super popular. I thought nobody liked him, so it was okay if I messed it up. But then people started to leave comments and share my stuff. And through drawing him, I realised I'm actually not that alone with this, or liking Tokyo Revengers.

RATING TR FITS PT. 2 BC AGAIN WHY NOTTT!!!

In (very dim)light of the new ep and them animating one of my fav panels of izana i am back

#7 i almost hate that im putting it this low bc he bodied this. Very keisuke esp w the crosses on it and that hes biting the bandage stop 😭😭 anyways i love the platforms sm. I do see the overall style as very bajicoded but also i feel like it should be a darker blue?? Either way he looks handsome 8.5/10 -1.5 for color scheme

#8 the crop top sent me into another dimension. No further comments(lie). Love the color scheme sm it matches his eyes perfectly. Such a cutie and the DOLPHINS AHHH. I love his hair like this. I also noticed the gears which was also on shinichiros fit which PLOT AF love to see it. Simple yet elegant, effective. I would maybe say 8/10 bc it is a little basic but it works very well for captain outlaw and his overall style

#9 I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE TW SNOWFLAKES UGH. im sick. Color scheme is so good and the sandals are cute. HOWEVER. i cant w the pose. Whenever wakui does this in his arts it throws me off sm it just looks so dumb IM SORRY!!! Gives me pants down over buttcheeks walking at a 90° angle vibes and it looks ridiculous. I love chifuyu but 7.5/10 -2.5 for pose

#10 okay, do not get me wrong i like it but i think that there are many better oa’s of mikey. Im not a huge fan of the outer coat but i do love the inner part of the coat and how they contrast each other. This one is just not my favorite. I would say probably 6/10 for blandness

Now unfortunately we move to last place and do not maim me but

#11 im sorry but there is rly nothing abt this that i like. I think the shoes would be cool on their own but they dont match w the rest of the outfit. I dont think the colors match well w draken either, i see him as more like yellow/orange/red i guess?? I would argue again that there are much better oa’s of him and im just not a fan!! Also the pose and bandage placements. I WILL give bonus points bc i do like the dragons. I feel like its at least a little more creative than mikeys. Probably 5.5-6/10 bc i dont think this looks like draken’s style at all besides the dragons on it.

I really really wish they wouldve done one for kazutora he wouldve been so good for this. ANYWAYSSS thank u all for the support!! Ive never had an acct for smth like this but ive been a fan of the series for years now and have to get my thoughts out to someone. :))

from left to right: haitani rindou, hanemiya kazutora, shiba yuzuha, kawaragi senju, chigiri hyoma, bachira meguru, nagi seishiro, jamil viper, and xiao.

i also made bonten rindou, older kazutora from the bonten timeline (this kazutora is in his valhalla uniform; the chain is ~symbolic~), casual and kimono yuzuha, senju during the day (the senju in this tag's also in her gang uniform), and bachira and chigiri in their blue lock uniforms. i forgot to make nagi in his uniform. aaaa!

both rindous, kazutoras, and the bachira were difficult to make!! esp. their hair!!!! there's no striped/layered option! *punches them* jamil's and xiao's hair styles gave me a bit of a hard time too. the hairstyles given in the picrew were not for their complex hairstyles/hair colors. aaaa AND THE PICREW HAD NO TATTOO OPTIONS!! so rindou, xiao, and kazutora are unfortunately tattoo-less here. cries. lastly,,,, yes! i gave senju, bachira, and xiao piercings even tho they canonically dont have their ears pierced. i think they'd look good with piercings aaaa i also gave kazutora extra piercings for the same reason. swoons

Here are my top 10 hairstyles that I will never forget

excluding Kazutora because no and Hanma because he looks like a friend of mine and if I start roasting his hair I can never stop

Egg-head draken: I know it was not his fault but he haunts my dreams.

Both Haitanis in Mitsuya's flashback: what. The. Actual. Fuck. They look like they couldn't decide on a wig to wear and just put a few (3) on top of each other. They thought layers but I say choose one hair length bitch. Fuck you.

Rindou's first hairstyle: He looks like he's 25, lives in his mothers garden house, has an unsuccessful start-up and works at a vape Shop. Hate it. Why would you do that to a 12 years old boy. Also what are these bangs? Are you sonic the hedgehog or what

Black Dragon timeline Inui: look Inui is beautiful. My boy. One true love. But the buzzcut was just not it. I wanna cry. His hair, HIS HAIR. WHERE??? His worst self in any way.

Past Takemichi: He could be a solid 7/10 if he would just stick with his natural hair color cause he has pretty, fluffy and curly hair but no, he had to match his horrible fashion taste with this piss colored abomination. I swear, I hate this color so much. You can sweet talk it however you want, from calling it sunflower yellow to buttercup but it's fucking unhealthy pee yellow and you know it.

Sanzu: I swear to god who decides to part his hair like that? This man has beautiful, long and hopefully healthy hair but honey, why. Your hair is not one big curtain you can shove behind your ear to let the sun in. WHY. 4/10 only because wearing your hair like that is an actual crime.

The little tiny bits of Wakasa we actually see: 10 points straight for his white, fluffy cloud hair, that was beautiful and he was beautiful and the world was beautiful but then he decided to turn himself into a zebra. Which wouldn't be so bad, if he wouldn't have choosen that fucked up color combination of dirty yellow and haitani only violet.

Mikey: a man who never disappoints. His natural hair is one of my favorite styles and the black hair looks so pretty on him- hell even white suits him. That man just has pretty hair. Sadly his future bowl cuts have a few angles where his forehead looks like a shooting target so 6/10 cause there are better hairstyles.

Shinichiro: simple. Beautiful. A Classic. Why did no one every try to go for a normal hair style like him? It's not like it would kill you.

Rindou would have been 9/10 with his current hairstyle but then I saw that he still has his fucking highlights and I decided he has no place in here anymore

Koko my beloved: He is the one and only who got nice hair in every and I mean in every timeline expect the bonten timeline and even there it's only because of the weird angle. The curls? Classic. The shaved stripes? Don't look like a zebra. The color? Keep it natural King. The Mohawk? Sexy. Whatever it is that his hair length is? Beautiful.

hi so I actually made this post months ago when I was fist reading Tokyo revengers (thank you Mandy), but I just finished this post today :3 most of this post isn’t rlly insightful--I'm either just screaming or rehashing takes that most people here have already made

warnings ofc for major manga spoilers although I also haven’t caught up on the last five-ten chapters:

rlly makes you wonder what happened when you look back after reading more recent chapters ahaha :’D but anyways, give him his flag!!! 

(again I wrote this in June--I contradict myself later in this word dump LOL)

hngjksnfgs I love this panel so much :((( sometimes with all of the action going on and how they act or are drawn, I forget that they’re just middle schoolers trying to navigate through life. and here’s mikey who has the weight of the entire gang--literal lives--on his shoulders, and is constantly depended on by the members as this ray of shining light. people literally are filled with relief when they see him during fights bc THE mikey is here to take over and he HAS to win the match, right? which is kind of interesting now that I think about it, because there’s also takemichi, who’s mentally 27 and still struggling to carry the weight of his loved ones’ lives on his shoulders. if a 27-year-old can’t be responsible for the lives of others--if I, a 19-year-old, can’t cope with the weight of my own--then how could we expect mikey to be strong with everything that happened around him added onto the weight of the gang? looking back now, I think what happened to mikey in the future makes sense, as odd/cheesy/out-of-the-blue as it originally seemed in my head.

nothing new but I fucking hate kisaki overall and I'm so glad he never got a redemption arc because there was nothing about him that could be saved

(this was an extremely harsh take but again I'm never forgetting what he did to everyone just bc he was pining over a girl from elementary school)

this panel ALSO messed me up, esp after reading some more recent chapters :( I think takemichi said once that he liked talking to mikey the most because he always feels at peace with him and described his eyes to be this calm sea (which almost reminds me of giyuu and his 11th form: dead calm) (I also might be remembering wrong bc I can’t find the chapter I saw it on). but it feels so double-sided if that makes sense? like with that peace comes a never-ending emptiness because he’s constantly consumed by whatever darkness he has in him (sorry for another kny comparison but it feels similar to muichirou before his whole arc), and so he looks so detached and empty. it’s actually kind of jarring at times when the panel zooms into his eyes because you really feel like you’re going to drown in them, but the way it’s cross-hatched is unsettling--like it’s more chaotic and fuzzy inside his mind. + if you compare the dullness in his eyes with the clarity of the other characters, especially takemichi, it’s as if he knows that there’s no future for him, or at least no future with the others. I ended up crying when he was grabbing onto takemichi and asking to be saved, because that’s the first time that we see any sort of light/reflection in his eyes (of hope, honestly), as well as the first time that he reaches out to have someone shoulder his own burdens + truly be vulnerable + depend on someone else rather than letting others depend on him. 

(this rant is the result of me hate-reading the comments after every chapter on *******):

sometimes idk what some ppl want from takemichi LOL. actually, no, I do know exactly what they want: a strong mc who they can experience the story through and who solves the problem with the physical manifestation of their strength (the typical shounen protag). but that’s not the point of tokyo revengers imo, and if you’re expecting that, I think you’re missing the whole story ????? like the power comes from the fact that he’s an average person who continues to fight despite the knowledge that he has, the weaknesses that he’s constantly forced to reckon with, and the general helplessness + hopelessness that he feels. he just wants to protect the ppl who he cares for, and that desire trumps physical power or charisma. THAT’S what makes him strong and that’s ultimately what changes the course of things in the story (because we already have powers like mikey who still fall into darkness despite his physical strength). obviously it wouldn’t hurt to make takemichi more assertive in different ways and not see him get absolutely pummeled LOL, but that’s also how wakui chose to enforce his themes

also I'd like to make some more literal points: 

1. the manga itself is really long, but when you think about the time frame, there’s not actually much time for takemichi to achieve everything he wants and grow stronger, esp with all of the plot twists that are thrown at him. 

2. his main goal was never to physically grow stronger, but just to prevent hina’s death (and later Mikey’s). it was always to talk someone out of doing something or preventing a major event from occurring, which doesn’t ACTUALLY need power to be achieved

(ofc he rarely, if ever, achieves to make it happen, but the effort counts n is there)

3. the dude is constantly carrying the weight of his friends’ deaths on his shoulders SDHFSLD LEAVE HIM ALONE ;; i’d just shut down if I were in his shoes and try to forget that toman was ever a thing

4. mentally speaking, the guy’s 27 LMAO the last time he really fought was back in middle school, which means he has absolutely little to none of those skills left

once again, I have nothing insightful to offer; I simply like the way this panel was drawn

spouting nonsense out of my butt with this one: ngl it took me a while to get used to this art style? like I thought it was UGLY LMAOOO. but when I did, I really came to appreciate how the mangaka colors things in and uses lines to create movement on each page. for instance, here, you can FEEL the energy of toman not just from the speech and the action, but with the lines that wakui chooses to leave uncolored on the members’ uniforms and hair + how the trees are shaded (which is vertical and for me personally it adds a lot more pressure/force, like they’re bursting with energy). everyone and everything feels so alive !!! but at the same time, their art is so clean... SO FREAKING CLEAN. I just love it o<--<

stop it....... STOP IT......... if I don’t get my 100% happy ending I will bawl. (yes I'm aware that this will probably/definitely not happy and yes I have tissues ready for the final arc)

also timeskip!kazutora, inupi, and chifuyu all in one place........ goodbye!

on a side note: I think I'm just gonna be a manga only at this rate bc I tried watching the first episode and got impatient waiting for all of the big action skjdfskjdh but maybe it was bc I wasn’t in the best mood / head-space at the time LOL

this also sent me on a takemichi hairstyle brainstorming... not a conclusion but the only thing i can think of that could work is half bleached half natural hair?? we don’t need another guy with hair dyed like kazutora so what abt michi with left side blonde right side black (if you look at him from the front. idk why but i’m picturing it with the colors on those specific sides now) the cut is even more difficult bc we need fluff but he’d look kinda stupid with his hair styled upwards... so maybe just fluffy but ‘unstyled’ hair?? idk. that’s where my ideas for him end bc i have a hard time picturing with hairstyles too different from the canon ones lmao

so one thing abt this au i have never spoken abt like entirely is appearances. specifically hairstyles. everyone has a similar kinda look to the three deities arc since it takes place abt three years after but ofc i've added a little twist to some ppl.

so senju has like her og hairstyle which is like an undercut, takemichi is rlly hard to make my mind abt bcuz i wasn't make him have his fluffy blonde hair but i also wanna add his black roots into it somehow idk...mikey's hair is kinda long but the same color, draken has his black hair like normal, hanma has long hair like how we first see him at the start of that arc but a bit more like stylish ig? more kind of messy buns and loosely pushed back. TAKEOMI HAS HIS LONG HAIR 🙌🙌🙌 AND WAKASA DOES TOO. shin has his normal haircut but a little bit longer. ran's hair is just bleached from half way and always kept in a messy low pony and rin has short layers with the same dye. KAKUCHO HAS AN UNDERCUT<33333333333 koko's hair is the same inui's hair is the same from that arc too mitsuya has his mullet hakkai has his long hair and i thinkkkkkkk everyone else has the same hairstyle as the final arc....
