Holst and Leopold "I'm completely dumb" von Bergliez were heavily mentionned by characters, so maybe (at least for Holst) people wanted to see him, but to erase Ionius - someone who already had a spite ffs, that's just so lazy !

They retconned Ludwig already, so they could have made him stand over Ionius's corpse and have Supreme Leader jail/kill/exile him in retaliation - but no.

The Adrestian political situation is already a mess, but erasing Ionius, idk, the only reason I can think of is because Ionius somehow would make Supreme Leader's arc look worse, or maybe raise questions about why the fuck is she allying with Leopold'n'Waldemar who betrayed him already?

Or, actually, because Aegir was retconned - Aegir wants a super strong Emperor of Adrestia who can rule over the world, Ionius wanted to become that Emperor but Aegir opposed him in FE16, so why should he side with Supreme Leader - who wants the same thing - in Nopes?

Without retcon!Aegir, we can't have Supreme Puppet in AG and the scapegoat who takes all of her agency and general blame on the war, and we can't have anything - let it be in game or out of the game - start to throw shade at Supreme Leader, who was Sailor Fuku'd for, uh, maximum marketing.
