i finally realized that a portion of why i go so feral over father-child dynamics specifically is because one time when i was young and spending a summer in france and still hadn't mastered french enough to want to read french books or watch french films, one of the few pieces of english media in my possession were children's book novelizations of disney's bambi and bambi ii and so i read it a lot at a formative time

#personal #there's a bit of something there about the true self existing in the false self or smth #because in the original bambi novel (yes it was originally a novel i read that too a few years later)#the entire emotional core of it is bambi's relationship with his dad that he doesn't know is his dad #and from what i remember of bambi og the hardest hitting moments after bambi's mother is murdered is him and his dad #and the entirety of that direct to video sequel is about bambi and the great prince of the forest i remember that shit vividly #and now i'm someone who goes nuts whenever fathers have complex emotional relationships to their children #even tho i'm someone who has a very close and normal relationship with my own dad
