"Dancing and kissing? In public?" Benjamin whispered back, a brief look of surprise alighting his face. It wasn't that he minded, per se, but he'd certainly never seen any public displays of affection before -- not even during his schooling in New Haven.
Emma quipped about her looks (which he couldn't disagree with) and then swooped back her hair. "And it's 'Your Royal Highness Princess Emma, if you must know. You can keep the 'Your Highness'."
Benjamin sneered. "Is that your polite way of telling me to stuff it? I think this is the rudest you've ever been." Lightly touching her wrist, if only to show his jest, he looked to Mary Margaret when the topic shifted to Bradford.
David, too, seemed concerned with the announcement of the colonel, and Benjamin was quick to intervene, "She has it handled, sir. Colonel Bradford is...an acquired taste. But fortunately, your Emma gave him a taste of his own to stew over. I don't think he's ever eaten a royal's knuckles before, but I can promise you this: the entire camp applauded the display, because he had it coming."
When Mary Margaret brought up an elopement, Benjamin nearly choked on his own breath. He cleared his throat, forcing a chuckle when Emma giggled, praying that the faint pink in his cheeks could still be blamed on the brisk air. "Your daughter may be impulsive," he said, "but I can't say she'd ever do that. Unless she was only in it for the wedding cake, of course."
David appeared amused. "Careful, I wouldn't want my wife to talk your general into relieving you of your duty so she can take you home with us."
"Is that truly an option?" Benjamin asked, a hint of his own amusement warming his eyes. "I wouldn't be opposed...after the war, of course. I made a vow to my country, and thus, I intend to see it through."
Emma nudged him and he glanced down at her, sharing an almost secret smile as he resisted the urge to catch her hand.
"Mrs. Washington is in camp," Benjamin said, realizing that Mary Margaret had spoken of Martha, "so I'm sure she'll be delighted to see you. The womenfolk in this camp are deserving of a nice little respite."
"But this is not over," David playfully warned. "You will come to dinner with us soon, we have books to discuss."
Benjamin chuckled. "But of course, sir. It would be my highest honor. And what's more, it'll give me an even better excuse to read in the evenings." Bowing at the waist, he said, "It's been my pleasure making your acquaintance. You've both been as much of a delight as I could've possibly imagined...and, truth be told, I'd lost faith that monarchs could still be good people." He smiled. "Thank you for proving me wrong."
though theirs had far less endearment.
"You say that now, wait until they start dancing around or kissing," she muttered back, hiding her mouth with her hand and leaning closer, "There's no way they can adapt that well to this place's rules."
Ben's words were not ones of protest after Emma's - and her mother's - encouragement, and she took it as a good sign; she felt luckier than ever, to have parents who were witnessing this and not finding odd in the slightest to have such an open conversation about emotions. Of course they had fought for it, they had earned that freedom, but it was still rare even in Mysthaven, and Emma was proud that at least she could give Ben a space where he could express his feelings and only find support. This was exactly what she had wanted. And God, how she wished she could take him home with her, when the time came.
and my sarcasm would've been accurate?
"What is there to be sarcastic about? I should be called Your Highness for my looks alone," she retorted, flipping her lock back. "And it's 'Your Royal Highness Princess Emma, if you must know. You can keep the 'Your Highness'." Her mother smiled, shaking her head, "Emma must adhere to the use of titles when protocol requires it, but she could also demand it as a right at all times... and chooses to do so only with people she dislikes. Had you been addressing her as Your Highness, we would have known she sees you as an issue." "Oh, he knows, I've got this man here, Bradford, who must call me by title." "Why?" David's eyes had narrowed, "What did he do? I could meet him." "No, no, it's alright, daddy," Emma assured him quickly, "You are already meeting everyone who matters now." "Everyone? Pity, I was hoping you'd reveal an elopement after this, to complete the tour," Mary Margaret remarked lightly, and David wrinkled his nose and said: "No, we were not hoping for that."
Pity, Mary Margaret thought again while Emma snickered at their comments, because the young Tallmadge would not want to wait before giving her grandchildren, clearly, and was in the jokes about Emma but always making sure to keep them as light as possible, least she got offended. A great combination, in her opinion. "Careful, I wouldn't want my wife to talk your general into relieving you of your duty so she can take you home with us." "We need new teachers who love their job," she pointed out with a shrug. "And Emma's friends are always welcome." "Yes, they are," Emma agreed, nudging Ben with her elbow - again, Mary Margaret noticed that normally Emma would lean in and stay there, but she was trying to keep distance while clearly already close enough to touch. Interesting. "Speaking of the general, we should see George soon. I certainly hope we'll be able to see dear Martha..." "But this is not over," Ben warned David with a warm smile, "You will come to dinner with us soon, we have books to discuss."

Shut Up And Dance With Me
Summary: Carpooling with the Avengers (you and Bucky are a couple though)
Words: 517
Warnings: None
Just a happy one for now! Had fun writing this to my favourite songs, lol. Short but sweet :)Â Emma Xx
“Hey, old man, plug in the aux cable. Need some music in here!” chirped Tony, making Steve sigh as he linked up his phone to the car. Diving across Bucky and Sam’s laps, tapping on Tony to pass over the phone, you scrolled through all the songs, admiring what actually modern music was on Steve’s phone. “Dang, Steve! You have some tunes on here!” you laughed, scrolling through until a track captured your eye.
“Are you all ready, ladies and gentleman?” you asked, hovering over the play button.
“Go for it!” chuckled Bucky, barely seeing anything except your butt from where you was leant in the car. Tapping on the play button, the first few words of the song blasted through the speakers, Bucky sighing at how much you loved this song.
I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed Get along with the voices inside of my head You're trying to save me, stop holding your breath And you think I'm crazy, yeah, you think I'm crazy
Instantly, Bucky, Sam, Steve and Tony all sank into the rapping, you listening in admiration at how well they knew the lyrics. Waiting for Rihanna to sing along, you bounced up and down in your seat, smiling in pure glee to Bucky.
Eventually, after all the guys had finished rapping, you burst in again with your singing, louder than the three of them together.
Now, I ain't much of a poet but I know somebody once told me to seize the moment and don't squander it 'Cause you never know when it all could be over tomorrow
Rolling down the window, you joined in with the guys rapping, blowing them out of the water in volume and surprising Bucky as to how well you recite the lyrics. He knew you loved the song, but this was just crazy. “What?” you asked, as he sat there admiring you.
“Just watching you like that, having a good time and all that,” he replied, softly, pulling his cute, snarky smile. “Dang, keep talking like that and I’ll have to send you back to the army to toughen up!” you laughed, pecking him on the lips before turning to look out the window. The song faded out as you waited for the next song to play.
“Actually, can I choose?” chirped Bucky, looking over to you who was amazed. Bucky had the weirdest music taste and you had no clue what he would choose.
Oh don't you dare look back Just keep your eyes on me I said you're holding back She said shut up and dance with me
“Oh my god!” you laughed, realizing exactly what Bucky’s idea was. “Don’t you like it?” he laughed, smirking over to you as he turned to Sam to wind him up. Waving Sam’s arms around, he choreographed him into a routine and before you knew it, you were joining in. Soon enough, Tony was roped into it and Steve was trying his hardest with one hand on the wheel. It really was one crazy party in one car.
Just the way you liked it.
