Tbh, I agree with this sentiment as someone from a country who has always been neck-deep in US Imperialism. But I sincerely hope you guys stop using POC to mean non-white people outside US, Canada, UK or other countries that adopted the term because they also primarily deal with Racism.
Here's a chart to illustrate how the term should be used.
Tumblr media
The use of POC for us is doing more harm than good. It places local supremacist or foreign non-white supremacists in positions where they can cry out racism and oppression when they literally are the oppressors themselves.
My country (the Philippines) has always been hurdled by US Imperialism but it is now facing CHN Imperialism too. There are fuel substitutes found under the West Philippine Sea and China wants them. They have taken over our islands and claim the area as theirs. They even have warships deployed there. Our Administration are good buddies with them. They allow big CHN business operations to go untaxed while they'd target even the smallest Filipino online seller. Other Southeast Asians can also attest to China's actions towards Southeast Asian waters.
Imperialists used the POC/Racism argument with rise of CHN Imperialism. People were mad about Imperialism but somehow, we were painted as the one's at fault for making "People of Color" (Rich Chinese Nationals) feel unwelcomed--- for aahh yes, *checks note*: (1) leaving Filipino fisherfolk to die at sea after destroying their boats but thankfully they were saved by a Vietnamese boat; (2) buying off our administration; (3) taking islands of the Philippines and making military bases in them; (4) conducting business but not getting taxed for it; (5) did I mention buying off our politicians yet?; (6) having our country called a Province of China, (7) did I mention taking the island in Southeast Asia that Japan used to invade us in WW2 and refusing to give it back to its rightful Southeast Asian owners? the list continues.
I know this post means well to call out White Imperialism in the international setting but like using POC for Native Asians (like Japan and China) just doesn't work. It does more harm than good because the socio-political climate in Asia is vastly different and isn't necessarily racially-inclined the same way it is in US/Canada/etc.
Words carry with them implications and POC used in Asia confuses rather than enlightens.
Let's call "overseas intervention" what it is- white imperialism.
And that's not to say that countries led by people of colour are incapable of imperialism- Japanese imperialism comes to mind as an example of that- but I'm talking about the USA and Canada.
I'm talking about military invasions and drone strikes and coups and missionaries, all designed to pillage resources and keep people in line, as well as the age old racist idea of 'civilizing the savages'.
To add insult to injury, white people from the States and Canada then turn around with their smug superiority and talk about how they're 'helping', while people of colour die at the hands of the military.
Fuck imperialism, and fuck the USA and Canada.
