GODDDDD YES amir's road to redemption was a long and hard one but it was so worth it!!!! i read the book when i was in middle school and the alleyway scene (u know the one) scarred me for life ahahahaha :) and i know about the movie!!! but i haven't watched it yet bc the book hollowed out my heart and then stuffed it with feels and i don't think i can handle experiencing that agony again orz (AND I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE GRAPHIC NOVEL BUT NOW THAT I DO IMMA CHECK IT OUT)

i have so many books with two copies that i even gave the extra copies away to my friends at school who wanted them lmao.

we have a similar bookstore where i live too!!! except that it's not one bookstore but several stores wall to wall spread over one area. the ceilings are low af and it's basically just criss crossing alleyway after criss crossing alleyway that are super narrow and connected to each other with bookstores on either side. there's no ventilation and you WILL sweat like a sinner in church if you stand (zero space so no room for seats) in one place for too long. but there's tons of books and they're all second-hand and pirated and super cheap!!! i love second-hand books bc they feel "broken in" and have that old book smell which i love. plus a lot of the times the previous owners write down stuff in the books that's super fun to go thru lol. bonus points if the previous owner is an english lit student bc they always write interesting stuff in the margins which i love to read!!! i've been to the bookstores so often they even recognize me and give me discounts :'D

AND IT'S BEEN YEARS SINCE I READ IT AS WELL!!!! i still remember the last passage of the book describing amir's smile that's as wide as the valley of panjsher (yes i STILL remember this bit word for word bc this book is seared into my brain) and how he runs after the kite and it just makes my heart fucking SWELL U FEEL ME?????

mindhunter's amazing!!!! i'm actually watching the series rn (only two more episodes to go and I'm done with s1!). i have two copies of this book and there's a funny story behind that. one time my mom went to america for work reasons, and i gave her a list of books to buy from there (bc a lot of the books i want to read aren't available where i live and on top of that amazon doesn't even deliver some items here). and the list included mindhunter. my mom also visited a friend's daughter who had permanently settled there and become a lawyer, and she graduated only recently so she still had the books she read in uni (or ✨COLLEGE✨ as 'muricans like to call it i suppose). my mom told her about my interest in law and criminology so the lady was kind enough to give my mom the books she didn't need anymore. (seriously that was actually so nice of her i feel indebted to her even to this day ;;w;;)

and one of those books was mindhunter.

this was after my mom had already bought a copy of the book, and she hadn't even realized what had happened lmao. so later she came back home, i began sorting thru my haul of books and saw that there were two copies of mindhunter (but different editions so i don't mind at all lmao), brought it to my mom's attention, and then we both lamented the dollars she wasted to buy the book rip (and then very quickly forgot about it lol)
