I am here to ask for your kamado character rant… i love him too. Id love to hear ur thoughts on him
HELL yeah. let's go.
Okay I have a lot of opinions on his character but real quick I wanna appreciate his clothes. They're SO good. The ultimate visual reprisentation of his status and his history. Firstly: I love that his kimono (very much a Johto related item of clothing in the pokemon world) is embroidered, something that is clearly associated with Hisui. It's very neat visual shorthand for his two homes. Also, the all black fabric is a HUGE status symbol. True black dye used to be super hard to come by, and so having a whole outfit dyed that way?? Its one hell of a flex. Also it just looks cool. And its a pretty subtle mirror colour wise to Giratina. Like sure. Black, yellow, and Red, but its not super obvious like Volo's outfit. I think that's neat!
Okay. His character. I find him fascinating, and it's really sad to me that people just kind of disregard him because of the banishment. Yes, that was a poor fucking choice, but that doesn't mean he isnt an interesting complex character. In fact, quite to the contrary! It is one of the most important and interesting decisions he makes! Dislike him for it all you like, but I do think its the only decision he could've made in that situation, character wise.
So. Kamado lived happily in Johto. He had wife. Then crazed pokemon attack his village, and he watches everyone he's known die, apart from Beni. That's gonna fuck a guy up, and it does, its why he distrusts pokemon so acutley. Eventually, after travelling with Beni, he goes and establishes The Galaxy Team, and Jubilife. Now he is in charge of a village. The saftey of everyone is in his hands. And then the sky breaks in half, and pokemon start to become crazed.
Where's he seen this before?
Leading so many people is already a huge weight on his shoulders, and now there is a potentially world ending crisis going on. And your player character appears out of nowhere the very same night that the Noble pokemon the clans revere get struck from above and become frenzied. Your arrival appears to be the inciting event (and if Giratina is behind the frenzies then he may well be right, even if your character didn't summon the lightening.) You go and you fix it but then the sky turns red anyway. And there's only one person who he has associated with the frenzies and the rift amongst his ranks.
Kamado, I think, is scared. He has the lives of all of Jubilife on his shoulders, and he desperatley doesn't want whatever happened in Johto to happen again. A guy can only move on from watching a whole village levelled once, and this time it would be his fault. He needs to do something to protect his people, but this is so much bigger than him. Quite literally what else could he do? So he makes a desperate decision that I'm pretty sure not even he fully believed in. But again he had to do something and he was afraid for the village and the saftey he's created to be destroyed again. The world was literally ending!! He didn't do it to be mean to the player character! He did it because he thought he had to. Who's gonna make only correct and rational decisions while time and space are about to collapse in on themselves? Definitley not the traumatised guy who is completley committed to protecting his people.
Like yeah, it was the wrong decision. It was a bad thing to do! But in character, really, could or would he have done anything else? Does him being unpleasent to the player character make him uninteresting? There is so much to think about with him!! And he's just sidelined because people don't personally like him all that much!! Give this old man DEPTH I'm BEGGING YOU.
OH YEAH. WHY DOES NO ONE UTILISE HIS GIRATINA SYMBOLISM. THERE'S SO MUCH THAT YOU COULD DO WITH THAT. SURE, VOLO BATTLES WITH IT, BUT IN TERMS OF MAJOR CHARACTERS VOLO IS TRYING TO INVOKE ARCEUS. (and, plot wise, failing) Where's my fic about Kamado striking up a deal with Giratina or being involved in lengendary bullshit at all (the answer is that its sitting on my unfinished fic pile but. that's besides the point. it's an underutilised avenue! You could do cool shit with that!!)

Traitors in Our Midst - Ch 3
[SPOILERS FOR POKEMON: LEGENDS ARCEUS AHEAD. DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS]
Summary: This was the last straw. That damned man had gone too far this time, and everyone knew it. Ingo was pissed. He wasn't going to let this go easily, for Akari's sake or his.
Word Count: ~1200
Ingo has no idea how they managed to pull that one off. The massive Pokemon was safely sealed away in an Ultra Ball, but the rift still stayed. What had happened? Akari was finishing up reviving and healing her team after that ferocious battle. It was definitely the most dramatic battle Ingo had partaken in as far back as he could remember (not that that meant very much). And it reminded him of something.
Fighting side-by-side with someone else, working in tandem to beat a single opponent. He remembered doing that with someone else, someone who was also very important to him for some reason. Who was it? All he remembered was white and a brilliant smile, a smile that he knew he trusted and loved. But why? Who did the smile belong to? His head was starting to hurt.
Akari sat back and looked at the rift. Ingo jarred himself back to reality to join her. “That battle… I remembered something. The man in white, with that smile. He looked like me and had an Electric partner. Why did he look like me? Why did we battle together? I remember him saying things to me, but I can only remember some phrases.” Ingo squeezed his eyes shut, but could not call the memories forward. He sighed. “Well, whatever that Pokemon is, it is now contained in its own cab. But the rift still remains.”
“Then we call again.”
“Excuse me?” Ingo whipped his head around to make sure he’d heard her right.
“We use the flutes again. If that didn’t solve the problem, there must be something else in there causing it.” The logic made sense, but he still didn’t like it. Not one bit.
“We should have already left by now, this is getting out of hand for the two of us. If there is something else in there, it is very likely stronger than the one you just caught!”
“What else can we do?” Ingo couldn’t really argue with that. Or, at least, not in any way he knew would change her mind. He sighed, pulling the flute to his lips once again.
As the clear notes of the flutes faded, the ground beneath them began to rumble. Ingo grabbed Akari, holding her close in case something happened. Before them, another two similar portals opened, revealing two more huge Pokemon. The one on the left was a deep blue, quadrupedal, and adorned with silver markings all flowing from the large jewel set in its chest. The other was pink and on two legs, with huge arms and wings on its back. Its head was small and framed by silver markings, similar to the other. Both of them simply watched the two humans for a moment before noticing the Pokeball in Akari’s hands. They watched it intently for a moment.
The pink one roared, a deafening sound like metal screeching across metal (how did he know what that sounded like? There wasn’t enough metal here to scrape against each other-) as a small portal opened and out dropped a single figure. They had blond hair and wore a familiar outfit-
“Volo?” Both Akari and Ingo called out in astonishment. The man in question sat up, dazed. He looked around for a moment before laying eyes on the two Pokemon before them.
“I-uh- what’s going on?” He backed away from the two Pokemon, staggering to his feet.
“They just summoned you here after they noticed I caught this Pokemon.” Akari held up the ball, but did not release the Pokemon inside. Volo smirked easily, his friendly demeanor returning to him.
“Well, what kind of Pokemon is it?”
“It was huge! It was mostly gray with yellow bands and six legs. It was super hard to catch.” The color seemed to drain from Volo’s face.
“Huh, weird. Never seen one like that before-”
The blue Pokemon roared, stamping its feet and drowning out anything Volo was saying. It stared at him, practically boring into his head with its gaze. It seemed extremely unhappy.
“Volo. What’s going on?” Akari asked. “Why did they summon you here specifically?” Something in Ingo screamed at him, wrong fear get away wrong WRONG-
He gently maneuvered himself in front of Akari subconsciously, pulling out his freshly healed team. “Volo. You had something to do with this.”
The man in question had started staring at the two Pokemon, not moving. When he turned back around, there was something hungry, danger danger bad things don’t like that’s bad-, something malicious in his gaze. He smirked. “I suppose it’s all up for me, then. Yes. I used Giratina to cause the rifts in space-time, throwing off the balance between Dialga and Palkia. I wanted - needed - to see one particular Pokemon. Arceus, Creator of All.” His pitch became feverish, his eyes hardening into diamonds. “I must see it, I must understand it. I must know why all things are the way they are. I must make a new world, one away from this, crumbling this old world to dust and making a newer, more perfect creation than even Arceus itself.” He continued on in this manner, rambling on and on about destroying the world. Ingo had had enough.
He was about to throw out his first Pokemon when the ball in Akari’s hands shook violently, popping open and revealing the Pokemon they had contained. It towered over Volo, its eyes piercing into his. “And you! Giratina! Losing to a mere child! I gave you everything! I helped you try to take your revenge on those who wronged you! And this is how you repay me!” Giratina shrieked, cutting off the rest of what Volo said. A large purple portal opened next to it, its swirling contents revealing some world that made Ingo’s skin crawl. The blue Pokemon roared as well, grabbing Volo between its mouth and throwing him into the portal.
Before they could do anything, the portal closed. Volo was gone. The Pokemon Akari had caught - Giratina - conversed with the other two. What had Volo called them? Dialga and Palkia? Ingo wasn’t sure which was which. They all clicked and screeched at one another, talking about something. It was then he realized Akari had clung to him, wrapping her arms around his waist and clasping his free hand. He could feel her shaking. He wanted nothing else other than to comfort her, but he didn’t even know how to comfort himself. They weren’t out of the woods yet.
Giratina returned to its ball. The other two Pokemon stood and faced Akari and Ingo. Akari untangled herself from Ingo, standing beside him.
Our brother says you fought valiantly and brought him to his senses. The voice was inside Ingo’s head, which was unnerving. Akari must have heard it too, judging by her gasp.
Fight us. Impress us. Show us your strength. In return, we will grant you something you long for. It was a separate voice this time. Ingo didn’t like hearing them. He and Akari nodded curtly, readying their Pokemon. The blue Pokemon settled itself in front of Ingo, fixing him under its gaze. The pink settled in front of Akari. They roared together in anticipation as Akari and Ingo locked eyes. They sent out their trusted partners. Ingo had better get some good sleep after this was all over.
