Writer Nonnie and for worldbuilding I want to start small but have to keep reigning in the one brain cell that wants eXoTiC fARaWaY lAnDs right the heck now. Like no, brain, can we just try to figure out a fucking name for this city first PLEASE. Also want that Ancestry and Culture book for a tangible reference.
Hah... mood. What even is restraint and/or details that work together (or contrast Just So)
But, see if this helps: humans are really really bad at naming things. Either a town is named after a geographic feature or someone with a bloated ego, or occationally they’ll yoink a name from someplace else For Aestheric (Athens, Sparta, Lebanon, Ithaca...just as places that come to mind in the US. And there are many, many more.) Or a religious figure—there’s a lot of those, too. Or, it’s named after a group who settled it (New Amsterdam becoming New York)
And sometimes a place will have a (usually incredibly dark) sense of humor. Hell and Bad Axe come to mind.
So, if you don’t know the DnD Language Name for it...you could literally just slap a bandaid of “It’s New Halfling-Town in Common or Cactus Pit in Common” then go back and translate, later.
(With sections I’m unsure about while writing them, I generally highlight to mess with, later. Since my Actually Writing Now process always has periods where I go back to reread to try and regain my train of thought...aaaaand might as well play with word usage and sentence order while I’m already in here. Sometimes I swear I like that Not Editting I Swear bit more than the Actual Writing... but yeah. Most writing apps have some form of highlighter.)
