Wip Wednesday- lifeguard edition
Working on editing a fic for @obikinlifeguardau
“That was rather impressive,” Obi-Wan says as he steps in closer. “I don’t think I’ve ever had the chance to see you in your element like that.”
Anakin swept down the beach like a god or an avenging angel. Moving before anyone else even had eyes on the man struggling beneath the waves, diving beyond the breakers in one long, lean line. It was the fulfilment of every stray thought Obi-Wan has had about the man over the last month, what it would be like to see all of that coiled, muscular, leonine strength unleashed and called into action.
“You as well,” says Anakin. “I didn’t know you were that kind of doctor. He was lucky you were there.”
Generally, Obi-Wan isn’t that kind of doctor. He hasn’t had to think beyond his specialization in years. But Qui-Gon’s insistence on emergency medical training as a teenager coupled with a strong memory of his medical school studies left him with a confident sense of what needed to be done.
“We made quite the team,” Obi-Wan says.
“We sure did.” Anakin shakes his head like he needs to clear water from his ear. “I wasn’t sure what to make of you when you first stepped in like that. When was the last time you had to perform CPR?”
“Not for ages. But I’m familiar enough with the recommended procedure and your form was absolutely textbook from what I remember, really well done.”
Anakin ducks his head in an incredibly boyish display of modesty. And yet there is something dark in his eyes, a knowing sense of his own ability, in every sense of the word. He runs a hand through his hair, tousling golden curls. “I just wanted to make sure he was alright.”
“I’m sure he will be.” They both know better than to make promises they can’t keep but Obi-Wan can’t help but praise him. Surely, no one could have done more for that man than Anakin.
“Would you—” Anakin’s confidence flares suddenly before faltering. He steels himself, looks Obi-Wan in the eyes, and tries again. “Do you want to come back to the guard house and shower off? They're a little more private than the main ones and we’re both covered in sand.”
“Rather an expected consequence of being at the beach.”
“Yeah, I hate it.” But Anakin is still looking at him expectantly. Can he really—? Is he asking for what Obi-Wan thinks he is?
There is only one way to find out.
