i was about to ask about the name and the letter a! thank you for explaining. i do agree, snow weasels are really cute. look at how pure and white and fluffy they are. i wonder if they feel as soft as they look.

lesbician, that’s hilarious. i love what you said about all those animals; i love cats too (domestic and big) and i’m amazed with cetaceans and red pandas. i live in a country where we don’t have them, so i hope i get to see them in person some day.

i love animals. i used to volunteer in this place that rescued endangered animals and animals which were illegally smuggled into the country, so i got to interact with all kinds: reptiles like crocodiles and snakes, countless species of birds, big cats like tigers. i used to clean their enclosures and cages and prepare their food and water.

i’m sorry i wasn’t able to make a doodle for today, i’ll make up for it as soon as i can. i read that you like fuffy; what other ships do you like?

Those shots are beauties! Lolling at the very over-excitable snow weasel one. Weeeeee! I think their fur would for sure be really soft. They’re in the same family as ferrets and they have nice soft fur. But really stinky poos. Such is life. 

That’s also an amazing shot of the humpy and very much reminds me of when one was spotted in a sea loch just north of Glasgow where I’m from. It must have got lost and made its way quite far ‘in-land’. People were quite worried about it and a lucky lady got some incredible shots of it breaching. But they monitored it and after a couple of days it made its way back out to sea. I reckon it just fancied a wee jaunt to see the sights. Pretty amazing.

A couple of years ago our best friends got married in Canada and before the wedding we went on a whale watching tour. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done and when we were surrounded by a pod of around 50 orcas I was holding back the tears! Bonafide sap. 

That sounds like the best job ever! How cool. I am trying to guess which country you’re in that you don’t have any cetaceans (somewhere landlocked I’m assuming?!) but you do have lots of smuggled exotic animals! Were the animals tame?

Yes, long time Fuffy fanatic. They were my first ship love and until Clexa, were pretty much unrivalled. I will always say that they’re my true OTP, but in reality I am just as much Clexa Trash as I am Fuffy Filth. But as they’ve been with me since I was a wee angsty teen, they have a very special place in my fangirl heart. I really loved Shoot and I’m really looking forward to seeing Sarah and Amy at ClexaCon in April. Hmm who else. Oh I was very partial to Valkubus when carcarsh Lost Girl was on. Tamsin was my homegirl and she definitely deserved better than the storyline she got. How about you? What ships are you going down with?

Doodles & Dragons

A ten o’clock history class should have been easy enough to attend. However, a few unanticipated things occurred in the wee hours of the morning and threw Amy off some. If it was the first week of the semester, their professor would be more lenient and understanding, but it was now week three which meant she’d have to get creative with her instructors.

“Good morning Ms. Haeffele, nice of you to join us.” Dr. Moore said nonchalantly without looking up from the attendance screen on her computer. “For me?” She inquired with a mixture of mock and genuine surprise once Amy placed a coffee cup on the edge of her desk. 

“Skim, one pump vanilla, light caramel drizzle.” Amy rattled off before making her way towards her classmates. It paid to pay attention on syllabus day. Most of the seats were taken already, so Amy had to weave into the second row where she sat on the left of a woman who…strangely had eyes a similar shade of her own. This was incredibly interesting seeing as how violet eyes were not a common trait in the slightest. It was then when Amy realized she had never seen this woman before. Either she had just switched classes or Amy was dumber and less observant than she thought.

Soon, the young woman was hearing her mother’s voice in her head about how it was rude to stare, and so she quickly and not very gracefully, dropped her backpack on the table in front of her and abruptly took a seat. After readying her doodling notebook on the table, she also pulled a redbull out from her bag and began pouring it into her cup. Today was going to be a long day.

Hello, all! Happy May!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been hitting the Spring cleaning hard. That has meant going through a ton of old art, whining about not knowing what to get rid of, and wondering where my ‘free time’ has gone. As of this last weekend, I feel like I’ve conquered the bulk of the work, but there’s still a bunch of organizing left to do . . . and a massive collection of ol’ DVDs to sell or throw away or otherwise discard.

What I’ve learned: I really don’t like getting rid of things that have value and are functional. I could write a book on it. For now, though, there’s a giant bag full of clothes/scarves/handbags ready to be donated.

Today I wanted to decompress a bit and do some lighter artwork that would make my face happy and bring some joy to other folks. I hosted a wee icon giveaway on social media to satisfy my need, and it was a whole lot of fun! I wish I could have made an icon for everyone who tossed their name in for the giveaway, but I couldn’t do that and continue my cleaning! In the end, I was able to crank out these three icons for my Twitter followers: Yana, Amy, and Caitlin.

Now that I have a better understanding of what art I have lying around, I’ll be photographing some of it to sell to anyone who may be interested in grabbing some originals. I can’t commit to shipping giant oil paintings, but I have a lot of smaller works on paper (ink, watercolor, acrylic, etc.). Stay tuned!

Sketchbook Work

A friend from class, Amy, told me that she had been thinking about my concept and gave me an idea following on from the ideas I had based on the quote from the book. Instead of having the person as an object that can be measured, it would be better to have a number on a shelf as if it was a supermarket and you could choose people at will. I like the idea of having a number of people more as I feel it’s more inclusive. I wanted the concept to go more in the direction of showing a narcissist’s views rather than on the narcissist. I also feel this could be a really interesting illustration as it has the overall concept and look from the design I did earlier when I drew the people outside. It is that design but with a stronger concept which is what I aimed to get out of it.

After doodling what the shelves might look like I then went on to focus a lot on what the people would look like. I had such a strong idea for a background with the lines of the shelves I really didn’t want the addition of the people to ruin it by not being strong enough in their design. I drew some faces as I wanted them to really stand out, so you could see them as people and they aren’t drowned out by the background. I always aim to use a lot of colour in my work so a lot of work has to go in initially to make sure the colours aren’t going to make it look too busy.

Testing more faces, I wanted them to be simple but emotive. This is something I definitely feel I spent far too much time doing and got far too in my head about. I loved creating the wee faces and I think I actually did a pretty good job of them early on but I always felt like they weren’t right.

Getting too much in my head about the heads (lol), I decided to focus on the bodies which I always have a bit of trouble doing as I want them to look really simple and when I spend a lot of time trying to make them right I make them far too complicated.
