Me last week: Alright, next week is the week before finals, so I need to make sure I start studying early in order to not burn myself out.
Me this week: It is imperative that I research whether it is possible to install Dolphin on a Kindle Fire.
#god kindle fires are like the fucked up dog breeds of tablets#if dogs could be selectively bread to have the Amazon App Store instead of the google play store#and also showed you ads on their lock screen#and they have the dumbest naming convention ever#like a kindle fire hd 8 just tells you the screen size#what you really care about is what generation you have because that’s what determines the hardware specs#also it’s still up in the air about whether you can install Dolphin on a kindle fire.#hypothetically it’s a maybe#dolphin needs at least 1 gb of ram and my kindle has 1.5 (I think)#but the other issue is whether the kindle is 64 but based or not#because the one forum post I read before the water for my chem lab finished hearing did not successfully come to a consensus on this#or if they did it was 64 bit but it’s missing some sort of registry entry and that prevents some 64 bit programs from running correctly#and THATS just assuming that I correctly guessed the generation of my kindle#which to be clear is in a completely different state right now

Amazon Fire HD 8 Emulation
youtube
This is a retro gaming emulation test for the Amazon Fire HD 8 (2020), a cheap tablet that costs roughly around PHP 4000 ($80) (*the price could have gotten lower by now). This is to test the games that can be played using this tablet. Note that there is no Google Play so you will need to sideload the apps needed. If needed though you can use the Fire Toolbox to do other stuffs like add Google Play. Keep in mind though that some of the features of fire might no longer be applicable especially if you update the tablet.

Amazon Fire HD 8 (2024) review: A cheap tablet hampered by outdated software
The 2024 Amazon Fire HD 8 positions itself as a cost-effective, lightweight tablet designed for casual users. While its affordability and practicality are appealing, the device's limitations in software and hardware may deter those looking for more versatility and performance. Here's a closer look at its features, strengths, and shortcomings. Design and Build: Compact and Travel-Friendly The Fire HD 8 is a lightweight and portable tablet, making it perfect for travel or quick use around the house. Weighing just over 11 ounces, it’s easy to hold for extended periods, whether you’re streaming, reading, or playing light games. - Materials: The textured plastic chassis provides durability and resistance to minor wear and tear, though it doesn’t feel as premium as aluminum or glass builds found in higher-end models. - Display: The 8-inch screen has a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, which is serviceable for basic tasks but falls short of modern standards. The pixel density results in noticeable fuzziness, particularly when reading small text or watching high-definition content. - Ports and Expandability: The inclusion of a USB-C port, microSD card slot (supporting up to 1TB), and a headphone jack are practical touches, catering to users who value expandable storage and wired audio options. Performance: Modest Upgrades for Light Use Under the hood, the Fire HD 8 features a six-core processor, offering a slight improvement over its predecessor. However, this modest boost in power still leaves the tablet struggling with more demanding tasks like multitasking or running graphics-heavy apps. - Best For: Streaming video, browsing the web, reading eBooks, and playing casual games like Candy Crush or Solitaire. - Limitations: Apps take longer to load compared to mid-range tablets, and navigating between tasks can feel sluggish. The tablet is clearly not designed for productivity or resource-intensive applications. Battery Life: Reliable for Daily Use One area where the Fire HD 8 shines is its battery life. On average, it delivers up to 12 hours of mixed-use, including streaming, browsing, and light gaming. This makes it an excellent option for on-the-go users who don’t want to constantly search for a power outlet. Software Experience: The Fire OS Ecosystem The Fire HD 8 runs Amazon's Fire OS, a heavily modified version of Android designed to integrate deeply with Amazon’s ecosystem. While this approach benefits frequent Amazon users, it comes with several drawbacks: Pros: - Integration with Amazon Services: Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, and Alexa are seamlessly integrated, making it a great choice for users already invested in Amazon's ecosystem. - Parental Controls: Fire OS includes robust parental controls, making the tablet a potential choice for children’s entertainment and education. Cons: - Limited App Availability: The absence of the Google Play Store restricts access to many popular apps, including Google Maps, Gmail, and YouTube. While users can sideload the Play Store, this requires technical know-how and extra effort. - Ad-Heavy Interface: The lock screen displays Amazon ads by default, and the home screen prominently promotes Amazon products, which can feel intrusive. - Cluttered UI: The interface prioritizes Amazon services and content, making it less user-friendly for those not immersed in the Amazon ecosystem. Camera and Audio: Functional but Basic The Fire HD 8’s cameras are serviceable for video calls and occasional photos but won’t impress in terms of quality. The audio performance, while clear, lacks depth and richness, making it better suited for casual listening rather than immersive experiences.
Who Should Buy the Fire HD 8? The Fire HD 8 is best suited for: - Budget-Conscious Buyers: Those seeking an affordable tablet, especially during sales events when the price drops below $60. - Amazon Ecosystem Users: Prime members and Kindle enthusiasts who want seamless access to Amazon services. - Secondary Device Seekers: Those looking for a backup tablet for travel or light media consumption. - Families with Kids: The tablet's parental controls and kid-friendly apps make it a practical choice for younger users. Should You Consider Other Options? While the Fire HD 8 offers value for its price, its limitations are hard to ignore. For users who prioritize app variety, better performance, and a cleaner user experience, alternative options like the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite or even refurbished iPads may be worth exploring. Final Verdict The 2024 Amazon Fire HD 8 is a no-frills tablet that fulfills its promise of affordability and portability. It’s a functional device for light tasks, but its outdated display, constrained app ecosystem, and underwhelming performance make it less appealing for power users. If you're deeply integrated into Amazon’s services or simply need a basic, budget-friendly tablet, the Fire HD 8 is a solid pick. However, if you’re looking for a device that offers more versatility and a premium user experience, you may want to invest in a higher-end alternative. Read the full article
