@lonelygodscompanion said: "This is one of those things where they all have done approximately the same level of bad, but only dean's transgression gets brought up or held against him, at least, most of the time. It could be because his action in this case is given more narrative weight than the others', which I think only really becomes a problem when fandom tries to use it to then paint Dean as a particularly bad person in contrast with Sam and Cas. Which, and I know I'm preaching to the choir here, is a petty and nit-picky way of viewing the characters. Bias can lead to erasure if the fan in question's not careful."
The show for sure tends to focus on Dean's negative actions more—or at least in the form of "how bad they were", which I think is one of the big reasons fans remember Dean's "transgressions" (also considering this particular one is in far more recent memory for most fans than the others). When Dean does something he should not have done or that he feels he should not have done, it is usually written into the script for him to feel guilty, perhaps even for several episodes, and for someone (or multiple someones) to remind him about the bad things he did and Dean to absorb and accept that.
Take for example, Dean killing Amy versus Sam killing Emma. When Dean kills Amy, the very next episode is about Dean always feeling guilty, and the Amy incident is at the top of the list (both for lying to Sam, and actually killing Amy, which haunts him). The next two episodes after that also feature Dean feeling guilty about the Amy incident still. He ultimately apologizes for lying to Sam but not for killing Amy, but it isn't because killing Amy doesn't make him feel dirty—he has nightmares about killing her. He just decided eventually... "What's one more nightmare?" it didn't matter how it made him feel—the guilt he felt was a necessary burden he had to bare (on top of all of the other earned and unearned guilt he constantly feels anyway). (See: my post about guilt EMF meters always going off and going back to ones moral code as a litmus because the tool is broken). Sam on the other hand... doesn't feel guilty about Emma for a single moment. He immediately moves on. The extent of his textually investigated feelings about shooting his niece are to, within the same episode where he does the deed, yell at Dean that he needs to get his shit together—that he's sure Dean couldn't have killed his own daughter if it came down to it and that's a problem (and yes—he is relating back to how he himself justified when Dean killed Amy... but also... Amy and Emma aren't the same person. One of these people was a serial murderer and the other one was a brainwashed child who hadn't killed a soul—notice Dean didn't kill Amy's son). Emma is never brought up again, and fans themselves rarely bring her up. She's just a one-episode blip on the radar. Amy gets more traction because the show actually built some story around what happened with her!
Something similar happens with Kaia. Dean actually apologizes to her I believe within the same episode (or it might be the very next episode). But... it's used as an example of how angry and bad Dean is. It gets brought back up when AU!Kaia shows up and shames Dean for scaring Kaia (which I have always found cackling levels of funny because AU!Kaia literally stabbed Kaia in the back with a spear and her only defense was, "Well I was trying to kill Claire!")
When Cas shoves his hand in a child's chest, or scrambles Donatello's brains, or uses a nephilim who was just living her life as a human sacrifice for a spell that backfires, or tries to kill Jesse because he's worried about what he might do in the future, or plans to kill Kelly and Jack behind the Winchester's backs because he's worried about what might happen in the future... we don't... investigate these actions individually (we don’t actually have time—Cas is too much of a Hot Girl lmao he has already moved on to more Hot Girl shit). Cas does share Dean's proclivity for feelings of extreme guilt, but what things exactly he feels guilty about and how he justified them... those things are largely missing—to the point that fans actually forget all of the things Cas has done and justified (he's like Dean—that EMF is always beeping) and go, "Well Cas has no reason to feel like this. It must be Dean's fault." (Again when I talk about fans looking at Dean and scapegoating him the same way John Winchester does... 🌚)
Then take Sam. There are two very painful (to me at least) occasions where Sam has done big things that make him feel guilty and intwined them with Dean’s parentification. The first is going behind Dean's back all of season 4 (and probably a lot of the things he said to Dean during that time). He apologizes in the first episode of season 5 and talks about earning back Dean's trust which he knows he's damaged, then... immediately drops that idea like hot cakes, because the reality is, Sam can't stand feeling guilty at that point in his life. So the very next episode, he shoves Dean into a wall for daring to not trust him anymore, and acts like the actions he took that produced the lack of trust don't exist and Dean is being unfair to him. What Sam is actually doing is projecting his feelings of guilt onto Dean. "I feel this way because you don't trust me, not because I hurt you and also am not trustworthy and don't even trust myself." Sam briefly realizes he is projecting, which then leads to the brothers splitting up because Sam doesn't trust himself, and then when they reunite, one of the first things Sam does is tell Dean that everything he did in season 4 is partly Dean's fault because he was a bad mommy (sorry—I have no patience for Fallen Idols—but here's yet more scapegoating Dean like John for you! The show does it too—not just the fans :))))))).
The second occasion where this happens with Sam is season 8, and we ALL KNOW I hate season 8 (it is truly the nastiest grossest season of all time from beginning to end with the exception of the very fun Purgatory elements and Benny, and Dean, Cas, and Benny doing cool things together) and I think it's a bullshit character assassination of Sam... but I do think Sam's tendency to externalize negative feelings like guilt and project them onto Dean holds very well from Kripke through Carver... even if I think the transgression Carver has Sam commit is wildly OOC (he would NEVER abandon Dean, Cas, and Kevin like that!!!) But yeah—Sam feels guilty—but he CAN'T acknowledge the part about Dean and Cas. He only apologizes about Kevin right away and tries to make that right. On Dean and Cas he is an immovable stone, so of course Dean is having trouble moving past it? Sam won't even acknowledge there was anything fucked up about it? And then Southern Comfort happens, and Dean is literally possessed and forced by a specter to let out all of his abandonment issues at Sam... and what do we get? Season 8 Sam telling Dean that he better shut the fuck up about being abandoned going forward, or else. That whole season is Sam gnawing biting at guilt inside, but he CANNOT face that guilt, so when it comes out, it comes out externalized. He has that beeping EMF meter locked up TIGHT in the back of a closet, and Dean's resentment only reminds him that it is STILL beeping back there and he can't quite escape the sound, and it makes him angry at Dean! So Dean is too close to Benny and he’s too close to Cas and he doesn’t trust Sam to do The Trials (this isn’t even true—Dean textually DID!) So then this all culminates in the season 8 finale, where Sam is forced to confront that he does feel guilty for abandoning Dean... but then it also becomes about Dean hurting his feelings by trusting Benny and Cas more than he trusts Sam (which is... completely rational thinking from Dean based on Sam's actions, including never showing regret?) and it turns into Sam reacting to Dean again... like Dean is his mommy who is playing favorites with his kids. I'm sorry but... that is what that scene is to me, and that's why I think that scene sucks big sweaty smelly balls. It isn't a sweet scene, it's gross, and even if I thought it was sweet, the discourse I see every time someone gifs that scene about how mean Mommy Dean is for making Sam feel so sad and down on himself by *looks at notes* "not trusting Sam immediately following Sam being extremely untrustworthy" would have ruined it anyway.
So yeah—not only do Dean's big bad mistakes usually get more individual focus (and a few occur in more recent memory) so that people remember them way more than they remember any of the insane things Sam and Cas have done, but Sam sometimes finds a way to do this to:
And then fans proceed to use the same technique to use Dean as a scapegoat for Cas too.
Anyway I know I have been in the bitterdeanblogging era lately. I will probably recover at some point.
"Dean pulled a gun on a teenage girl."
Sam shot and killed his niece and Cas shoved his entire arm into a 12 year old boy's chest while he screamed and cried so he could feel his soul and would have murdered Jesse the antichrist if he hadn't been turned into a figurine what is your point.

My god, so everyone espousing the virtues of 'things happen' are totally right, it is absolutely wonderful, but the one of yours that gets me the hardest is without a doubt 'what's missing is found (our souls can exhale now).' Dean and Kaia bonding! Dean's horrible grief! THE CATHARSIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no, because i will literally never shut up about the idea of dean and kaia bonding.
Claire is a Dean-coded Cas-girl! She is LITERALLY Dean's parallel!!!! LITERALLY! And then Claire/Kaia is paralleled to Dean/Cas???? So, naturally, Kaia is paralleled to Cas! And she is, y'all.
No, hear me out, okay? Kaia is a Dreamwalker. She's other. She's not a normal person. (Cas: angel. hello???) Kaia went through psychological torture because of her dreams and the Bad Place. (Cas: naomi, conversion therapy/torture.) Kaia broke THROUGH that torture/fear FOR Claire—that whole "I'll go with you" scene, pfft, no one touch me I'm going to chew on glass. (Cas, again: breakthrough for Dean, the crypt scene, you know.) Kaia was willing and tried to save Claire by sacrificing her own life. (Cas: please don't ask me to draw parallels between Kaia jumping in front of a spear for Claire and the way Cas let the Empty take him, I will cry.) Like come on, need I say more? I can say more, that's how serious I am. Kaia IS Cas' parallel.
Which means that she would 100% be a Cas-coded Dean-girl, and Dean would be so fucking fond of her, oh my goddddd. I mean, even if you wanna think about it as a meme a little—Dean once stabbed Cas after meeting him, and what did Dean do to Kaia? Put a gun to her head. Fucked up? Yes. An opportunity for bonding? It's Supernatural, so yes. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO BE BUDDIES. DEAN WOULD HAVE CARED ABOUT HER SO MUCH, JUST THE WAY CAS CARES ABOUT CLAIRE. WE DESERVED THIS.
im a dean and kaia bonding truther, no one can take this away from me. cas and claire are the big, ridiculous loves of their lives. dean and kaia smoking! dean teaching kaia about cars! dean and kaia sharing looks whenever cas and claire are being silly! kaia not fitting into the usual hunter stereotype (like cas) and dean making her feel better about it! kaia thinking claire is so hot and dean finding it hilarious, but also understanding her struggle because cas exists! kaia telling dean that he and cas need to communicate better, and dean distracts her until she stops calling him out! kaia drawing dean, and dean just lets her! dean and kaia bonding over never really sleeping well! i mean??? the list goes on and on, folks.
oh, i got a little carried away with this one, huh? well, thank you, im glad you liked it ☺️
#destiel#dreamhunter#claire x kaia#am i obsessed?#yes maybe so but i dont care#kaia and dean could have had so much potential#also yes jack is a sam-coded cas sam AND dean girl no i don't make the rules#ugh i am so glad i wrote that fic where dean and kaia bond they deserved that#sobs says things#hey im about to clean out my inbox if you wanna avoid me#ambitiousbutrubbish

Making of Jack a Real God
TFW meta. Visual Narrative 15x11 meta. The Gamblers. 15x11 spoiler
Good night my lovelies, I'm here again trying to put some orders between the visual narrative implied in the whole pool game.
I know it was important to give us clues, as it gave us in episode 14x10, when I could speculate about the returning of Chuck and the fight against the Empty just watching a pool table!
Okay, now let's see...
Don't play Chuck's game
Well... The color of the balls... Yes... I know it was a lot for watching but I will be rewatching tomorrow with more accurate info, but basically...
The pool table and the colors of the ball are a thing because this was in episode 14x10...
The white ball is God and the colors on the table talk about Dean, Cas and the Empty...
But in this episode we had:
Dean hitting the blue ball several times
Blue ball in different holes than the Dean colored coded ones
Fortuna loosing because he couldn't put the orange ball in a hole (orange represents Sam and Dean)
The blue and the yellow in the same hole, this talks about how Sam and Cas are always in the same page because they think alike.
The table was red, it was in the moment when Dean decided to play the game, marking that could be a bad decision, and when he was playing and he lost.
There was a neon light announcement outside the bar "3 SHEEPS" representing TFW and how Chuck sees them. But they need to become wolves to win against Chuck.
And here comes the thing... Because they played Fortuna's game, and they loose. But when they showed her they care about people, and they will stand facing Chuck to defeat him... Fortuna gave them her blessing.
Dean and Sam don't needed fortune, they needed to believe in the essence of their work as hunter. They care about people, they hunt monsters to save the world. And Chuck is the new monster. They need to believe they're normal people, but heroes. Because normal people can be heroes too.
Sam and Jack's mirror
Since they entered on that bar, Sam was linked to the waitress, dresses like Jack (white t-shirt and Bordeaux plaid), I'm not inventing this ..take another Jack mirror...
This is from episode 14x19. Hello Jack.
Now, this girl was trapped because he loose against Fortune, and she was afraid...
But when Fortune released her, he went straight to Sam, the one who had been stalking with her, and she delivered the lucky coin.
This was a symbolic representation of what Jack will means for the incoming events. He will be the one who will bring the luck to this war against Chuck. And the advice came from this girl's voice too "Don't play his game, make him play yours"
So, I'm pretty curious about what all this means and which role will play Jack in all of this, related to Sam. I think we just need to wait and see.
Castiel and the Grigori
Another creature that put humans to sleep and eat their souls.
These two characteristics are very meaningful for Cas and Jack and I will say why.
Eating souls is directly related to Amara. She, being a goddess, fed with human souls... So... Jack, eating Grigori's hearts (with the whole Destiel meaning that this implies as I said in my first meta) it was as if he was eating indirectly those humans souls.
So, the fact that Jack was eating indirectly human souls through Grigori's hearts is putting Jack on the road to become a god? Maybe the new god that will replace Chuck? Maybe that's Billie's plan
Now, Dean is very worried about this, because maybe he is seeing the kid in the edge between a good future god and a monster.
The fact that this creature is related to dreams, is again a parallel for the Empty, and a recall and foreshadow of Castiel and his deal.
Will Castiel be able to defeat the Empty just like he killed the djin in episode 15x06 and the Grigori in this one? Let's see.
Sam accepted the Challenge
And it was amazing seeing Sam accepting the challenge, yes, he said yes, he played and he won! Well just the first game, but it was a great foreshadow for what will mean to him to defeat Chuck.
No that he had lost hopes and faith, accepting the challenge is a good sign of him healing those wounds.
Even if the connection with Chuck isn't there, Sam smart brain will come out with the plan, with the game they will use to make Chuck play it.
Dean and Baby are back
With Jack back, and his luck and his faith back, Dean is ready to defy Chuck.
Baby working good is a great sign of the Winchester's hearts, and now is time to planning.
To Conclude:
This episode was full of visual narrative and color coded situations.
Is a recall to mirror universe, in which we saw a lot of mirrors of our characters, and I will talk about this in my next meta.
The clues all over gave an idea of what they need to do about Chuck: keep faith and hopes, saving people and the world, knowing they're just two normal hunter's, but they're also heroes.
The apparition of the Grigori that, as the DJin, are a representation of the Emptyeing killed by Cas', is a good foreshadow, and it could be talking about Castiel defeating the Empty, and by doing that, defeating his own darkness and depression.
I hope you like this meta. If you want to read my first meta ,the Destiel meta, is right here.

Butterflies and Sleepy Bears
Visual Narrative Meta. 15x05. Proverbs 17:30. Destiel meta. Supernatural Meta. Dean meta.
Hello my friends! As I promised, here I'm with the visual Narrative Meta, if you want to check out my Destiel meta the link is here and my TFW meta link here.
Now, I already talked a few in my others meta but this time and thanks to my friend @agusvedder we have pics and also some gifs...
Sleepy Bear and Vigilant Bear
Okay I know everyone noticed this...
And we had Dean sleeping... With this cute scene...
I love how the Moose is looking at him. Like Dean wake up! Oh wait! Sammy is the next about to enter the room to wake him up!
And then this sequence here (thanks Agus!)
Is a very awaken bear with a frowning Dean, and one red door. If you noticed the whole episode was full of red walls and doors... Is Toxic!Dean color coded.
Okay... So I just need to remember here... Castiel called him angry sleepy bear, or something like that, in Tombstone... But we all know that.
Blue Trent full of Dean's mirrors
I already talked about this in my previous meta, I just wanted to show you the pics now...
The symbolism here is perfect, because they were enjoying time inside a Blue Tent (Castiel) and the girls are Dean mirrors, also the one in pink representing Happiness.
And the wood outside ...
Black Woods, and I truly believe that as in episode 14x16, it was representing the Empty here too. And the monster in red is like Toxic!Dean ruined the party isn't? Ruined what Healing!Dean had...
Yockey and books
Okay we discovered these two books behind Lilith...
Modern France and Comparing Theories about Children Development
I just put others two from 14x06 I also noticed...
The first one talks about The French Revolution, and how french people had to go through so many hard times like wars and poverty to become the Modern Nation that is now, so... Improvement, right? This episofe talked about how Dean and Sam had upgraded, even is there's a resistance from Dean to that. He's not more the young hunter that come to find his little brother.
The second one it talks for it self... Comparing
Theories about Children Development??? Okay is Dean a child? Is he behaving like one? Not telling his brother Cas is one because he pushed him away? Then asking him if Cas answered Sam's calls?? Like? Right. Is better for him deny all the situation with CAS and just wait Sam makes the call trying to bring him back??? Like? Life doesn't work like that mister, you need to grow up, to upgrade, to heal... Yeah... Let's compare some theories about Dean's development...
Castiel's Wings
This image is beautiful, I don't have to point here the color blue and the heart, you know me, and I know what I'm going to say... That's Cas... *Sighing* and it looks like wings surrending Dean... Let my Destiel heart to fly away...
Bugs foreshadow
Okay... Remember when Jack was in that bathroom in 14x06 talking with Dean and the walls had dragon flies??? Well watch now what Dean had begun him, on the walls...
We were talking about how Yockey uses bugs in his narrative with @emblue-sparks and @mrsaquaman187 , and look what we have here... Butterflies, they had to go though a metamorphosis, they're first a caterpillar and then a chrysalis, that's a transformation, and bc dragon flies mean new life, we saw Jack died and resurrected in episode 14x08, maybe we will see a truly metamorphosis on Dean.
Burning inside
At the beginning of the show we had Dean bringing some hot sauced snack... Dam said YOU ARE NOT GONNA LIKE IT, and Dean replied YES! And then we had him burning inside? So so symbolic, because that's how Dean is feeling now, all those feelings he's pushing down, are gonna to burn him inside... The bag says thank you....
As my friend Agus Pointer it says thank you in red... And then Sam when he saw Dean was burning... He offered him water... And did you see the color of that bottle??
So here is the little spec... Sam is gonna be pissed when Dean tells him about how he let Cas go, and then he's gonna find Castiel and talk with him.
Maybe an important talk between brothers in which Sam will make Dean to figure out what he really wants... Not the hot sauced snack... (That btw he ended throwing...) But the fresh water to calm his burning heart. Damn... Is poetic...
Miscellaneous:
I'm not allowed to put more pics but, I already talked in my other metas ABOUT the bloody tears, and the wall with the bear and the moose representing the brothers. I just wanted to add Lilith orange ascot, as I said to my friend @poorreputation , is the mix between red (Toxic! Dean) and yellow, Sammy's color, and is the negative sign for what a healthy brother's relationship should be. She represents all the negative, the toxic codependency mostly, and that's why she's wearing that color.
To Conclude:
There was just a few Destiel inches in narrative meta, the episode was mostly centered on Dean and Sam and mostly in how Dean should aknowledged he had improved or change or upgrade. He needs to assimilate this idea to reach the true metamorphosis.
Hope you like my rambles, see you soon!

Dean Winchester Top Ten Worst... Person moments:
1) He’s a sexist. “Sweetheart, This Ain't Gender Studies” “So then how do we go Pimp of Babylon all over this bitch?“ “it's better than rotting in some skank's basement.” “So that’s you, huh? Our Slutty Little Yoda.” “They let her leave the house looking like a whore.” “Three of the cheerleaders are legal. (he was 30, when he said this to high school girls.)” “We hit Victoria’s Secret and get our peep on.” “Hey, ice cream comes in lots of flavors, Sam.(While saying those missing girls who may have been victims of crime are *Cute*” “Shut your mouth, bitch.” “You sit there like a good little bitch.” “ Well, aren't you an obedient little bitch?” “On a good day, you get to kill a whore.” “It's just an angel and a demon, riding in the back seat. It's like (..) a Penthouse Forum letter.” “Look at me, bitch!” “known fact. all women lie about their weight and age.”
2) Ofc, his undying love for Busty Asian Beauties.
3) calling his little brother ‘Girl’, ‘Bitch’, ‘Gay’, ‘Pansy’ for knowing Cinderella story.
4) His violent tendency.
5) He’s verbally violent towards his friends and family. “Nobody cares that you’re broken, Cass.” “Without your power, you’re just a baby in a trench coat.” “No, you were being bad everything.” “Cas, don’t make me pull this car over.” “You know who whines? Babies.” “ Yeah, why does that something always seem to be you?” “Then you're dead to me.” “Now, I know you don't like it, and I don't really care.” “Don’t make me push you.” “If I didn’t know you, I would wanna hunt you.” “Remind me to beat that buzzkill out of you later, all right? (and Dean did beat Sam)” “This is a dictatorship. Now, you don’t have to like it, but that’s how it’s gonna be.” “Quit being a bitch.” “You were being an infant.” “Are innocent people supposed to die so that you can shop for produce?”
6) This deleted scene.
7) Making jokes about Sam's torture and possession. “Look, man, Cass healed your s'mores foot, all right?“ “I'm gone for two weeks, and you're like an episode of "Teen Mom."“ “That sling come with a slice of… crybaby pie on the side?“ SAM And that his bathroom was, “Like staring into the Devil’s butt.” DEAN That’s vivid. SAM And accurate. I saw it. DEAN You saw the John, or, uh— (Imagine Sam saying this about Alastair, also consider that Sam and Lucifer’s relationship was heavily rape coded.)
8) Dean’s A Plus Parenting. Called Jack, who was a kid, an “it”. Threatened to kill him. “If I’m right… and it comes to killing you… I’ll be the one to do it. (Jack was a three day old baby in this scene and he was self harming.)” “Until I figure out a way to end him, we’ll bring him home.” “You speak when I tell you to speak, okay?” “Jack? He’s just another monster.” “I wanted him dead.” “Jack's not family.” Basically said “Thank you for dying for us, Jack.” in 15x17. "Dean is not the most loving surrogate father in the world and would like nothing better than to suffocate this thing that is in the backseat of the car" Says Jensen Ackles.
Also
Of course, when you want a child to snap out of it, slapping the cheek is the best way.
And yes threatening a minor with a gun always works like a charm.
9) Taking the moral high ground, Acting like he gets to make life-or-death decisions for everyone. Strict black and white morality. “Kate and Tasha are monsters. Last I checked we kill monsters” "Wait, Dean. We're not gonna kill Maritza." "She's a monster." "Yeah, who saved our asses.” “Now you can deny it and you can run from it all you want, but that bad.... will always win.” “No matter how hard you try, you are what you are. You will kill again.” “No, nothin's changed. He's still the Devil's kid. He's still evil.“ “No, I put down a monster who killed four people“ (After this he decided to keep his ex-pilot monster friend alive, who had looted and murdered as a daily job.) “You deserved to be saved, he doesn’t!”
10) Since OP mentioned Sam’s *expression*, his faces after seeing lovely gay couples, guys.
sam winchester top ten worst ally moments:
1) you are pretty butch people probably think you’re overcompensating
2) dean did you service oberon king of the fairies

4) rejecting cas’s hug
5) asking bobby if he kissed crowley
6) when he called cas an it
7) when he interrupted cas and dean’s argument in the car during lily sunder
8) his expression whenever dean told cas “the last time someone looked at me like that, i got laid”
9) asking dean when he hit menopause for watching dr. sexy
