general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life  hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff best quality: prob the way he turned into a supportive and incredible teacher in s4. his understanding and care for his students was miles better than shue could dream of worst quality: his impulsivity and numerous "putting his foot in his mouth" moments. the boy does not think, he just does. ship them with: this is hard for a lot of sad reasons so i'm just going to say rachel based on canon. although i love in fics where he's alive, when he's written w an OC wife. i would've loved to see that in canon tbh. brotp them with: puck, sam, mike, kurt needs to stay away from: will schuester misc. thoughts: hoooh okay this is where i get nervous lol bc i know my opinions aren't popular and i don't want people to attack me for them.

finn is incredibly flawed and so much of the criticism of him is valid. however, i do feel like people only focus on his negative moments to support criticizing him, and if you did that with so many characters, the consensus would be....bad. i guess i don't understand why it's so easy for people to forget these moments happened or pass them off as bad/ooc writing for everyone else, but not for finn? (santana basically outing kurt, threatening to out karofsky, every fucking santana rant, brittany outing santana, kitty giving marley a fucking eating disorder, kitty being racist and transphobic to jake and unique, continuing to make fat jokes about marley's mom, sam and artie's comments to ryder in 4x20, the list goes on) my point is, finn has done a lot of good things people just don't talk about.

"he's a straight cis white able-bodied jock why should i care" like, yeah. but let's not act like racism wasn't literally baked into this show. i don't get how that's finn's fault. the other main protag of the show was a "straight" cis white able-bodied woman but finn gets hated for it way more. and i feel like people don't get... quinn being written off as getting into yale versus santana struggling to get jobs, tina forced to wait until the literal last second for brown is also white privilege. mercedes having her album pushed off the release calendar for wanting to wear a fucking shoulder wrap in a photoshoot while miss rachel berry lies to her producers and jets off to LA for an audition and is totally fine bc she’s just “too good to lose” is also white privilege. white privilege was baked into the writing. kurt, the white gay male, got way bigger of a story related to his sexuality than the poc members of the community (santana, unique, blaine, etc). also, not a slight at kurt by any means, just pointing out the disparate writing.

finn wasn't perfect and i'm not trying to diminish the criticism of his actions, but i do think people blame him for a lot of things that weren't his fault. it seems like separating bad writing from the character is operative for everyone else and i wonder why it doesn't apply to him.

on a positive note, his struggles with what he wanted to do with his life, his identity, and his arc into teaching in s4 were so compelling and incredible and i will forever mourn that we didn't get to see things turn out as they should've.
