The truth is he’d impulsively run away from his tower home, and for reasons he currently is having great difficulty recalling. Despite almost instantly regretting it, he’d only quickly found himself lost in the impressive maze of Gongmen City, and then, when he’d come to the very edge of the city, he’d-- for yet more head-scratching reasons-- chosen to continue on.

Now he is well and truly lost, and hungry, and cold, and deep down quite frightened, least of all of the monstrous Nian.

So, hesitantly, still eyeing this stranger warily, Shen moves forward just a few steps, heartened by the mention of food (and especially by soup). He lifts his chin, as if trying to get a better look into the pot or the bowl she’d half filled, refusing to stand on his toes and lose the last shred of dignity he had left.
