I discovered this song when I was 14 because Joel Madden mentioned it as one of the best songs ever written, along with The Smiths’ “Please, please, please”. This was at the time when I really started to develop an interest in music and in learning as much as possible about music history and different genres, all while trying to figure out my own identity, so I’ve always thought of this song as some kind of catalyst. Over a decade later it’s still my go-to answer for whenever I’m asked about my favourite song.
