Loved your DnD fic. I wanted to ask, how did you come up with everyone's character names when writing? Also, how many of the firefam did voices to play their characters?
<3
Hello dear! I'm delighted you enjoyed the fic so much.
So everyone's character names were come up with in slightly different ways, ha ha. Hae-in was the name of a childhood friend of mine and means "hope." Chim put a TON of work into his character and so I figured he'd put a ton of work into the name as well, so he had his character's mom name her son after the hope she had for what he would represent as a child of two worlds (wood elf and high elf).
Cerys is a Welsh name, and both Maddie and Evan are originally Welsh names, so I'm personally of the headcanon they have some Welsh in their family history and Maddie chose a Welsh name because of that. Athena's character name being Minerva I thought was fucking hilarious and the exact kind of bait-and-switch joke she would pull. Hen's character name, Mori, is short for Morrison, as in Toni Morrison - a famous (and insanely amazing, read her if you haven't) Black author, who has the same first name as Hen's mom. So Hen was doing a little personal shout-out to both an author she likes and her mother.
Buck and Eddie's names were symbolic: Atton sounds like "atone" and Buck made a character who feels (like Buck but doesn't tell him that) like he has to atone for his very existence by putting himself at risk for others. Imbolc is one of the sabbaths celebrated today by modern pagans that comes from various actual festivals, marking the mid-point between winter and spring, which is metaphorically where Eddie is in his journey. Winter isn't over, but the chance to find new life is coming.
I wanted to reflect how in my experience actual players pick their character names. For some people it's about a cool sound that they think matches the character (Atton) or a fun name with some small personal significance (Cerys). Others it's a joke (Minerva) or they just pick a name they think sounds cool (Imbolc), or with a hidden meaning known only to the player (Mori) that doesn't have a bearing on the actual character/story. While others (Hae-in) put a fuckton of thought into how and why their character was named the way they were in-game.
Hen and Buck do British accents. Everyone agrees Hen's is better than Buck's. Maddie supposedly does a Welsh accent but bless her she's all over the place and sometimes forgets to do it. Nobody points it out. Eddie, Athena, and Chim all just use their normal accents but their voices do tend to change a little while in character. With Athena this is deliberate. Chim and Eddie aren't really aware they're doing it.
Bobby does voices as the DM for various characters. They are all terrible. Nobody tell him.

OC HALLOWEEN: day twenty-four → into the minnieverse
minerva banks really should have thought twice before she eavesdropped on the hot librarian and got herself pulled into the world of the supernatural. she’s not bad at fighting demons, but she’s not great, and when she mouths off to an evil witch, she might be in over her head - well, heads, i guess. when she and giles return to the school library, it’s only to see minnie (and minnie, minnie, and minnie) staring back at her - other lives, women from alternate universes who happen to share her face. pallas, a semi-reformed supervillain with a sharp tongue, teeming with petty resentment; athena booker, a demon-hunting librarian (yes, giles gets a real kick out of that one) who can’t stop herself from making witty quips at everyone’s expense; soft and demure brigit weasley, a face used to being lost in the crowd who’s now confronted by herself over and over; and ava capitoline, a steady-handed and cold-hearted sniper and profiler. these women couldn’t be any more different, and yet, they have some major things in common, not the least of which is their need to find the witch who cast this curse and exact some sweet revenge.
ALWAYS TAG LIST: @bravelittleflower @richitozier @julianblackthcrns @foxesandmagic @anotherunreadblog @ochub @pock-galliard @loveallthatjazz @fiercefray @delicateblackrose @eddysocs @ocappreciationtag @notanannoyingfangirl @raith-way @noratilney @phoebestarks @ocfairygodmother (want to be added? just shoot me an ask!)
SUMMARIES:
pallas (dccu, li: harley quinn) -  it's hard to say when and where exactly pallas came from. maybe it was the moment her past self volunteered to undergo experimental mutations at the hands of one of gothams most notorious supervillains. perhaps it was when she was taken apart and rearranged from the inside out, left part human, part machine, part monster. it could have been when she helped her master to slaughter city after city, a mindless killing maniac whose autonomy had been stripped as much as her skin. perhaps it is easiest to describe the moment she came to life - the moment she met one harley quinn. struck with love, pallas's bloody, broken path to regain her free will was not an easy one, but a worthwhile one, to see that stunning smile even once. and now, as they work side by side, she sees it all the time. it's looking at that smile that she feels it; sort of a fuzzy thing, a dark thing, a gentle but insistent pull. she watches as harley scrambles away, yells, but she can't hear. moments later, she greets the four other women in the library. for them it's like looking in a mirror; for pallas, it's like looking at shards of broken glass.
athena booker (supernatural, li: adam winchester) - athena had never thought much of herself - as a librarian in a small town in minnesota, she figured it was her destiny to live as boring of a life as possible before eventually dying in her sleep. that is, until about five months ago when an angel and a hunter decided to utilize her small town library as a demon trap. ever since, athena has been on the run, whirled into a world of chaos where the winchesters have dragged her. even though she's trapped in a tiny impala most of the time, ironically, she's never felt more free. while on a job in texas, though, athena is surprised to find that everything changes for her once again. just as she's about to knife a demon, she feels a tug on her neck and her vision starts to blur. one moment she's watching as dean calls her name and reaches out for her, and the next, she's in the middle of a library looking her doppelgangers up and down. even up against all the vampires and demons and witches, well - sam and dean never prepared her for this one.
brigit weasley (harry potter, li: remus lupin) -  brigit always felt out of place in the wizarding world. even when surrounded by family, her older cousin arthur was her only solace, telling her stories about his friends at hogwarts, a magical place where everyone can find a home. brigit dreams of the day she can find her own home there, the day she can find herself. finally, after years of waiting, she arrives at hogwarts, and quickly finds herself in the company of the marauders. moony, wormtail, padfoot, prongs, lilypad, and owlie. people who see her, finally, not just as another nameless, faceless weasley, but as her own person. james and sirius, who are the additional brothers she never knew she needed; lily, her twin flame, a beacon of light in the darkness; peter, someone she trusts more than anyone and can tell anything to; and remus... who's something indefinable. remus, whose hand she can feel ghosting over her own hours after the fact, whose scarred face slots perfectly between her hands.. friends for life - literally. unfortunately for brigit, this story can only go one way. after the death of her best friends, brigit loses everything - her home, her safety, and worst of all, herself. flash forward to the present, she's back in school, this time as a teacher, and face to face with remus for the first time in nearly 14 years. it's looking at him across the great hall that she feels dizzy, her knees giving way beneath her, and what she thinks is resurfacing trauma is actually a portal to another world - or so says the math teacher who's stolen her face.
agent ava capitoline (criminal minds, li: spencer reid) - special agent ava capitoline has lived a life longer and more tragic than most people her age. born on the streets and with nowhere to go but foster home after foster home, it was no wonder when ava took to the military - that is, until her base was attacked. though her time as a former sniper should have been much longer, her injury left her incapable of continuing her service, leaving her in the lurch. it was then that she joined the ranks of the fbi, quickly delegated to the behavioral analysis unit. though at first she's wary, she soon sees the profilers at the bau as the family she's never had. after a particularly hard case, one where ava's life was in the hands of a cold-blooded serial killer, ava is comforted by fellow special agent dr. spencer reid, and in his calming presence, finds herself dazing out of consciousness and into drowsy sleep - so she thinks, until she lands with a hard start in the middle of a high school library. she immediately reaches for the gun on her hip, only to find she's aiming at - herself. and herself, and herself, and herself. serial killers she can deal with, but this? this is out of this world.
