His proximity to the contaminated area for hours makes him susceptible to it and its levels within the ambient. After Fenton takes care of the problem, for the most part, it leaves his body asking for more, like the first time he left the town and kept breaking concentration or waking in the middle of the night consistently many weeks later.
The psychological effects, the physical effects, and everything in between had been so similar to the stories they used to talk about in PE during rainy days. Of people who never quite rid of the compulsion, even after staying clean for a lifetime. The effects of continuous exposure's studies may carry on all his life and thereafter, as senior Fentons finally got to use their degrees for good some years ago. Dash could easily imagine their ghosts picking up the study wherever they left it whilst alive, a local joke in Amity.
Prolonged life, augmented strength, superior thinking capacity, inclination for growing plants, foresight, and many more arbitrary, inconsistent knacks exist all throughout the little town where he grew up. They're kinda cool if you're not interested in leaving or particularly care about finding what the cost of living with them is. No one would ever blame the people of his generation who stayed behind. It's an easy life to miss.
Following the standard disinfection process that the rest of the building undergoes, and coming down to levels so low that he's sure they won't be a danger to other people, Dash doesn't feel like testing his strength but does it anyway. Superboy, who had been in line for detox not even 5 minutes ago, gives him a funny look when he inevitably bends the metal off a container box that wasn't going to be used anyway. He sighs. It'll be a while before the effects go away as the ectoplasm naturally dissipates into the environment.
Dash pulls out his phone. He probably won't get fired, and the idea of helping the nerds with whatever those teens found suddenly seems like a great idea. He's got two weeks of vacation accumulated anyway. Not even the Flash will keep him out of it.
Short DPXDC Prompts #1002
Dash has been working with STAR labs for 3 years now. His coworkers are lovely, the pay is great, and he loves what he does and everything is perfect. Until Dash’s boss gets a message from the Teen Titans that they have a blood sample of an unknown alien they’d like to be studied to hopefully find any potential information about them. Dash thinks nothing of it. He’s had multiple encounters with various hero organizations and has done the best he can at every request given. The blood sample arrives. Dash’s heart turns to ice. He hoped he would leave Amity Park behind for good. But before his very eyes in a container with a note next to it that says “Run tests to see Lazarus Water similarities”, is a vial of ectoplasm.
