This isn't meant to be hate in any way, I'm just having trouble understanding some of your takes when it comes to the quality of Watcher's videos. Do you think that spending a lot of money=effort=quality? This is mainly concerning your post about the PH trailer, which I found disagreeable as I don't think that tons of money spent on a trailer for a show is a good decision as it will be hard for the show to keep that quality.
Yes that's exactly it because when people are paid more for the work they do they tend to put more effort into it. Money can be exchanged for goods and services, and Puppet History has been described as a passion project of Shane's. It also didn't air at all during 2024, and that's because they can allow themselves to put as much time into it as they want since they own their company and set the schedule. And I really like that about them.
I admit this post was written kind of in a hurry and not well thought out, after seeing youtube comments for ghost files alone where people are like "this is what we wanted just a guy with camera and no shmancy overproduction". And this might work for that show, and I admit that the first season of puppet history has a charm to it, with the professor not having a different voice or the curtain failing but my first impression of PH was when season 5 aired. By that time it had a quality to it that didn't fail throughout the season, with Shane overseeing all the cinematic things himself, and keeping that a secret. If you look at the lore parts of season 5 it has a higher budget behind it from the songs being composed especially for the show and not from a database, to the cinematic parts (I presume that all wasn't just one take), to paying the voice talents behind the dinosaurs, to the animation, editing, research of the historical facts and writing that into a script of a history lesson and many other things that we are not aware of. So yes I think when things take time and money they tend to have a higher quality to it.
Trailer for season 7 seems to keep that quality if not raising the bar, and movie trailers tend to have the best scenes of it. What I meant to say is that from the trailer we can see that it's a high budget production, and I think the cinematic scenes will deliver the quality content I've come to expect from watcher entertainment.
They also said in the podcast that they tried to cut the costs where they can for their other shows, but puppet history seems to have all the money and attention it had previously. I don't think cheap sets would have worked for that show at all, or at least it wouldn't have captivated me as much as it did. I'm also a streamer user so I'm glad to see that the money goes somewhere (back into higher quality of the shows they make). I hope they keep doing that for their future shows tbh.
#replies#i probably forgot something but whatever#watcher#my take is that I'm one of those 'i love their overproduced shit' and that's always a hill i've been on sorry if you thought otherwise#also sorry for bringing discourse into the main tag won't happen again
