My favorite characters in Homestuck

In the following days we are going to celebrate the 10th anniversary of “Homestuck”. Although I became a fan in 2016, it was probably good for me, since it helped me read the entire comic without waiting months for another update (wouldn’t say the same thing about Hiveswap however).

So I was wondering to myself: “What am I going to before this very special day?” And the answer is … well you read the title of this post so…

Now to be fair, some of the Homestuck’s characters are received better or worse but there is no doubt that they are at least interesting, and in case of almost all of them, I can’t really hate them (except for GAME OVER Aranea, Post-Retcon Scorpio Loser and possibly Kankri; they just… suck). And to be honest, after reading a whole comic and months of thinking, I’ve come with four (actually five) that easily earn the spot of my favorite.

Now, you might ask why did I choose only four five characters? Simple, it’s because of one of my two rules in this list – one character per group. And this groups are:

1.     Favorite Beta Kid

2.     Favorite Post-Scratch Troll

3.     Favorite Alpha Kid

4.     Favorite Pre-Scratch Troll (this one is a tie)

As you can see, these are the groups and they exist because of my second rule: my favorite characters will be shown in order of the groups shown earlier.

Before we start the list, a little spoiler warning: all characters that will be shown on this list are girls. So without wasting everyone’s time, let’s get this list started!

FAVORITE BETA KID – JADE HARLEY

Well… I mean… J-just look at her!

I’m surprised that the universe didn’t collapse itself due to the singularity of adorableness that is Jade Harley. But mark my most words, just because she is one of the cutest characters in the media, it doesn’t fucking mean she will not kick your arse. In fact by the end of “Cascade” she’s so powerful that she can change sizes of a GODDAMN PLANETS like it was nothing. And to top that she manages to defeat Jack Noir (with help of PM) just by going into his way, and only because she doesn’t want him and Post Maiden to slaughter each other. How can you not love such a precious character?! Come on!

 FAVORITE POST-SCRATCH TROLL – TEREZI PYROPE

Before I read “Homestuck” I didn’t really cared about the Zodiac sign I was born under, and even to this day (even through I’ve kind of warmed up to it) I basically think that it’s just a gimmick, an interesting and somewhat funny, but still a gimmick. But let me tell you, if someone had told me that one of the most awesome characters in the media was based on my Zodiac sign (mixed with Daredevil), I would have LOL’ed to death. And then I would have slammed my head on my desk for 413 seconds ‘cause I was a big dumbass. Terezi is a character that is as awesome as she is funny AKA a fucking lot! She is almost unkillable and even when she’s on the verge of death, she will die when she decides that she have fullfilled her duty. She is that cool!

And also a little bit of trivia for someone who doesn’t know: on my Extended Zodiac test I received this:

 FAVORITE ALPHA KID – ROXY LALONDE

Imagine Tony Stark, if he was a girl, was 16 years old and his alcoholism was created for shits and giggles. That is basically Roxy in the first three sub-acts. She is a gold mine of silliness. And she gets better in the next sub-acts (and sub-sub-acts). She gets probably the best character development and when she does something awesome, it’s not just your everyday, common awesomeness; the pure awesomeness from her scenes will make you shit your pants so much that you will fly like a rocket until you hit the Mars… I’m saying it now. Roxy is without a doubt THE best character in “Homestuck”, and nothing will change this opinion.

 FAVORITE PRE-SCRATCH TROLL – ARANEA SERKET (BEFORE GAME OVER)/LATULA PYROPE

This is the case that even after hours of thinking, I wouldn’t decide which one is better.

In Latula’s case – She is designed to be the parody of those annoying 90’s kids that are trying as hard as fuck to be hip and kewl, but they end up childish and pathetic. But with Latula… I just can’t be mad at her. I actually like her. She’s like an older sister that I never had.

In Aranea’s case – Well, first of, she is one of the smartest characters in “Homestuck”. Those bigger than planets Cherubs? She knows many things about them. Backstory of the other Pre-Scratch Trolls? She will tell you and even PAY YOU if you listen to her.

Second… Jesus FUCK she’s beautiful. It’s probably her glasses (curse my legs turning into jelly when I see a cute lady with glasses).

Now to be fair, Aranea would have ended in this spot alone, if it hadn’t been sub-act 6 in which her IQ dropped 50-75 points. Since a tie between her and Latula.

 CONCLUSION

If you are reading this, then congratulations! You’ve managed to read this three pages long post about my favorite characters from “Homestuck”. If I had to order the previously mentioned characters it would be:

Some of you may be pissed of that I didn’t choose your favorite, but remember: this is my list. If you happened to not like at least one of those characters, it’s fine. Everyone have a different opinion.

Anyway folks, that’s all that I have for now. Let’s hope that we will receive something BIG on 4/13. After all, it’s “Homestuck’s” 10th anniversary, there has to be something big on this day. I don’t care if it’s Epilogue, Hiveswap’s 2nd act or something else. Just something.

Already got praised for my comment but I wanted to post this earlier (but couldn't).

Take for example my darling Olivia (pre-change)

She is +spd/-res. After the change...

You can see the +spd and her res jumped from 29 to 33 (turns out she had a super bane - some units have super boons/banes which are 4 stats).

This change helped out some units (ones who want all their stats) more than others (ones who have a clear dump stats); my main example would be Reinhardt doesn't get too much because his speed is an easy choice to dump. Other units (Libra might be a good example) want all their stats, so patching up their flaw can be very beneficial.

He gains +1 atk / +1 hp (per regular merging rules) but also fixes his -hp super flaw (making his hp jump from 41 to 46).

If you go into the settings in Feh there's a Asset/Flaw color toggle to show you like pokemon, Blue is + Red is -

OH! In that case my +10s are neutrals (? I mean they don’t have reds or blues for any stats) and the +3 is +Def but doesn’t have a flaw? I think merging might erase the flaws/assets? I think I read that once but don’t quote me on that.
