ugh god I KNOW hating modern art is a fascist dogwhistle but also
every time I see something about it I’m just like
okay
but
I DO hate it
#not all of it but enough that I am consistently irritated by the feeling I am being told 'you just don't GET it'#they are of course correct; I do NOT Get It#intellectually I understand that Duchamp's 'Fountain' was meant to challenge What Art Is#but conceptual stuff mostly just makes me want to bite someone#and flat color fields are not meditative they give me the same feeling I used to get#in LA#because the sky had no goddamn clouds and I felt like it was going to eat me#both of these feelings can be easily summarized as: I hate it#babble tea (blacklist this for less chatter)#this brought to you by seeing multiple things the last two weeks#also please don't take this as approval of people destroying artworks#it's absolutely not#other people can and should love what they love#but#my brain weasels and I Do Not Vibe with most modern art#and I'm very tired of feeling like people are saying#'try harder to like it; it is morally unacceptable to dislike it'#and I do feel fairly strongly#that if I am willing to embrace 'let the soft animal of your body love what it loves' on behalf of others#they should be willing to accept 'let my rabid brain weasels hate what they hate so they don't gnaw their way out of the enclosure'
