In Amborse's folder. Buck's letter to Dick.

"Dick, I hesitate to mention this however I have long wondered about where Norman Dike came from and why he was selected to take over our company when you were promoted to battalion.

I know I was not the greatest officer but at the time Dike took over I was the last of the original group of officers that was with E Co on D-Day. I had some hope that I might take over in your place.

I'm not trying to put you in an embarrassing spot but please be frank. Was it my shortcomings or where there other considerations of which I was unaware.

At this stage of our life it is no big deal but it is something that has made me curious all these years.

If you don't care to tell me I'll understand, but I have always, perhaps wrongly, felt that Nixon, for some reason, didn't like me and that he was the one who made the decision.

Nixon may not remember this but when we were in Aldbourne before D-day he once said to me "I hate you jocks."

Well enough of that. Thanks for taking the time to write me. Hope to see you in Reno.
