The "teacher punishes the whole class because of one kid" as collective punishment doesn't always work and is only really effective if you don't know who did it. It's a tactic that encourages social strain and where the one who caused the problem doesn't always learn, and the rest of the students get punished for something they didn't do and had know control over. If a kid makes a mess, then there's still a level of accountability they have depending on how old they are. If they're old enough, they're able learn to clean up and apologize for themselves.

Sometimes no one learns. If the only "consequences" is someone else needing to take care of it, then it's like a kid who never learns accountability and grows into someone who expects others to clean up after them - we've met singlet adults like that (and a lot of them working retail). For us, we kept spiraling and getting worse because no one was learning. That was until we finally forced it so that the headmate who did it has to apologize and fix it, and especially with making separate accounts to see how our words reflect as separate people.

When individual headmates started to experience accountability, like the one who snapped at others is the one who needs to apologize instead of forcing the most mature one to do it, then that was actual accountability for us and when they started to improve. Especially with how most of us didn't get the social skills we needed as a teen and needed to relearn it in our 20s.

This works because most of us can understand accountability, we've gotten good to speaking to our kids/teens about it, and we have a good amount of control over our front. Unless something is an actual emergency we need a different headmate for, or the headmate who did it can't understand it yet, this is usually how we do it. So we understand this doesn't work for every system, but the point is that "system accountability" gets treated like a hard rule every system must follow when it shouldn't be.

(I know there's also "no one irl knows you're a system" but when it comes to us being openly a system online, y'all know what's going on. Though even offline we'll still follow these rules.)

I'm sorry if this is a noob question and I should have figured it out already buuut: How does one square away System Accountability and System Responsibility with the reality that we're all separate unique individuals with our own lives? My entire System feels entirely uncomfortable with the concept and think it deemphasizes our individualism. Thank youuu love the blog ❤️

Well, you know how when you're in school, and a few kids in the class are causing havoc but the teacher doesn't know who all is involved so she decides to punish the entire class?

It's like that.

I think you can still be individuals and see yourself as such... but also acknowledge that you're a unit sharing one body and one life. And whatever any member of that unit does will affect the rest of you. It's in the best interest of each member to care about the wellbeing of the unit as a whole and the other members. System accountability and responsibility isn't about being one person necessarily. Just being one team.

Stray thought: something I found the "SWK is manipulated into the Havoc!" take often obscures is his fear of death. Y'know, the very reason he begins his quest for immortality in the first place, and I'm glad the LMK show at least paid some homage to.

Death is but one of the many sufferings that accompanies existence and samsara itself. So is his fear of death and the desire to avoid it. The problem is? The way desires and attachments work, getting what you want doesn't solve the deeper issues.

First, he sets out to avoid death for himself. Then he did that, and also made death null for as many of his fellow monkeys as he could find. But it isn't enough, no.

His own immortality will not grant the safety of all of his subjects, his friends, and all the good stuff he has ever gained that rightfully belong to him, mind you, and he is responsible for. So he just needs to find a way to hold onto them, forever and ever and ever.

Since he has an abundance of creativity and intellect, but not the wisdom to match, his solution is to find the "Hows" rather than asking the "Whys".

Keep stacking up the powers, the immortalities, the allies, the weapons, the victory counts——which eventually became its own rewards, the thrills, the satisfaction of getting away with yet another daring heist, the feeling of invulnerability.

But let's go on a tangent and talk about book!SWK. When he came back after getting banished, he found his monkeys bullied by the Monstrous King of Havoc, wrecked the guy, and rescued his subjects. Immediately afterwards, he emptied the armory of Aolai Kingdom to arm his monkeys and robbed the dragon kings blind to arm himself.

Yeah, seeing a bit of a connection here. He is pulling off these heists to protect against perceived threats to him and his people. Then, moving on to the First Havoc, when he came back to his monkeys, he was surprised at just how much time had passed since he departed for the Celestial Realm——10+ years in the Lower Realm!

Yet, after the First Havoc is resolved, he happily stayed in the Celestial Realm for half a year, without remembering that meanwhile, at least a century had passed for his monkeys and demon allies. In a sense, he had become detached from his subjects, despite his first instinct still being "bring my buddies all the divine wine" after he got sober and returned to them.

I don't know you, but I feel like he probably expects everything to stay the same while he was gone. He isn't yet selfish, but certainly self-absorbed, in that he doesn't seem to realize that his actions can have consequences for people other than himself.

Like, if he is in his old "Monkey King" mindset, he may have comprehended that the Celestial Realm will treat him and his monkeys as a single entity that will be collectively punished for his misdeeds. But by becoming the Great Sage, he has drifted away from his duties as a king, which sets the stage for his behaviors during the Second Havoc.

After the 72 caves of demon kings have all been captured during the first wave of attack, his reaction is basically "lol, at least they didn't get any of my monkeys". This, I think, is the point where he is showing true selfishness instead of just being self-absorbed. Like, if I were one of his non-monkey allies and I heard that, I'd be pretty pissed.

The thing with the unrestrained freedom of the Havoc is, by cutting himself loose from all the rules and norms and disregarding every potential consequences, he is also unknowingly severing his tethers to others and alienating himself from his people.

Which is how I interpret SWK becoming so disheartened when his epic battle with Erlang terrified his own subjects into a rout, he just turned and fled——he realized that they, too, were seeing a monster.

He is no longer fighting for his people's safety, but an idea of them, who will always look up to him and do okay without him and never perceive him as a threat, and when that idea is shattered, so does his will to fight on.

I feel like the same could be said for his pursuit of immortality and power: it started off as a way to rid himself of existential fear and defend against concrete threats, but the list of "things I must do to secure my happy eternity and what is rightfully mine" just keeps growing longer and longer, until he's only focused on that sweet, sweet feeling of reward whenever he ticks off a checkbox and tunes out everything else.

After all, the more you have, the more you can potentially lose. A never ending cycle, exacerbated by his desire to never lose, until it all comes crashing down, figuratively and literally.

Back to LMK: People always point out that Azure worships this idea of SWK, and never quite sees SWK as his true, flawed self. Which I agree, but also: SWK does this too. He, too, loses sight of the actual people he's fighting for.

"I did it for US!"

The thing with a claim such as this is, multiple people can all try to do everything for the idea of "us", instead of something that may actually help each other, then feel wronged when their efforts essentially amount to nothing.

"We were all on a path of self-destruction."

For this statement to land, the self-destruction has to genuinely be each character's own doing. The fallout can, and is indeed magnified by what the others did or didn't do, but ultimately, the causes of their consequences come from within themselves: their own obsessions and attachments.

And making SWK the exception, the innocent figurehead and scapegoat, removes the complexity from the character while outright ignoring the few implications of the show that actually have some basis in book canon and are kinda interesting.

seriously this is what gets my fucking back up about people in opposition to anti-statism or anti-carceralism they're always like 'oh can you propose a way to 100% prevent abuse or violence' and it's like. Insert I, Robot gif here. Can you?

like I'm not complaining about the lack of attention to safeguarding and justice in anarchist communities because anarchism is particularly bad at it! I'm complaining about it because tackling the issue requires acknowledging that it does exist in every community we try to build and that we have to speak up and deal with it proactively.

abuse happens in anarchist spaces, in socialist spaces, in marxist-leninist-maoist spaces, in capitalist spaces, in religious fundamentalist spaces, in feudalism, in whatever fucking system of authorities you wanna name. the question is how we deal with it and anarchism is deeply imperfect in that but so is every other system I've seen and anarchism is pointing at the better goal, I think - a method of community accountability which focuses on harm reduction, desystematising, and healing rather than on punishment, revenge or cycles of violence.

we're not there yet and we will probably never build a 100% foolproof system where abuse and interpersonal harm never occur. but frankly neither will any other system, human interactions are complicated and messy and sometimes there will be shitshows - our priorities are to reduce the number, severity, fallout and normalisation of those shitshows and figure out ways to prevent, react and support healing.

like here's one key fucking thing ok. I have found the way that anarchist groups I've been in have handled abuse allegations really traumatic and overwhelming and triggering. but that's largely been because I have some faith in the approach and it hurts a lot more to fuck up when you have hope.

but you are fooling your damn selves if you think going through the police or the state is less traumatic and overwhelming tbh. reporting and going through the court system is notoriously retraumatising and miserable for survivors, even when it's done with empathy and support. it also Does Not Work. punitive justice actively intensifies cycles of abuse and trauma.

obviously like. the main problem in these notes is that inexplicably people reblogging my post seem to believe the core thesis of anarchism is sunshine, rainbows and the milk of human kindness not like. hard graft to build tailored systems to meet community need. and you are wrong about that. anarchism has never been about 'building a community of morally pure sweethearts who wouldn't hurt a fly' it's about taking responsibility yourself, as an individual, for the wellbeing of your community, and working together collectively to identify what needs to change and what systems would create that change.

I'd love to say that disliking a ship is always a taste, not "sometimes", but... well, some people who are invested in shipping will prefer only straight ships and consider gay ones "sin"/degeneracy/whatever led them to it. Nonetheless, it IS important to not instantly assume the worst about the person just because they don't share the vision of the ship that the 'cool kids' of the fandom decided is canon! What if Malenia had emotional barrier, if not deep guilt for existing, that no amount of Finlay's convincing that she wanted this fate could break? What if the issues Malenia developed through life of both idealisation and demonisation (both are dehumanising) made her push someone, especially a subordinate, away upon assuming they "don't know what they want"? What if she is afraid of relationship because, since Scarlet Rot can sprout stronger in reaction to emotional pain (as we seen from Millicent blooming if she was betrayed), Malenia is scared shitless to harm another person or herself should relationship ever cause deep pain? Or what if Malenia forsaken considering relationship altogether because she identifies as 'blade of Miquella' and is not willing for any bond to become more important than that (and someone can expect romantic love to eclipse familial one, it depends on the perspective).

There are many directions to take in either why Malenia might not love Finlay, love but not want to date Finlay, or not love/date anyone. Why she either can't or doesn't want to! I have a couple of two other mutuals who are scared to tell anyone they don't 'see' Finlenia because even a deep analysis of the character will be received as attempt to "invalidate a representation"! One of them also thinks Malenia ships don't work period because it's hard to let romantic feelings bloom under so much physical and mental illness, speaking from perspective of a person with physical disabilities and severe depression themselves! Also a very valid perspective! Again, do we then want to argue about whose projected experiences "deserve" validation and whose don't? The hell we do :/

LoZ Wild - The Bargainer Statues

Now, to start off, from my understanding of what I've read about it, the actual Shintoist concept, process, & spirit produced as a result of said process, is actually known as Bunrei (分霊) &, theologically speaking, the Kami isn't supposed to be decreased in any way by the act, even functioning the same. It is specifically compared to the act of using a candle to light another candle.

However, I am personally gonna be taking a couple of creative liberties in certain instances & this happens to be one of them. If this were the case in my hc, then I'd have to get a bit more convoluted with things than I'd personally prefer. As such, I'm instead making it more similar to how the Kage Bunshin technique from Naruto works. Which would be more like Hylia is the "source" goddess & the "Hylias" inside the Goddess Statues are lesser copies of her with varying degrees of power & capability depending on their host statue's size.

Also, the in-game Japanese name for the Bargainer's Statues are Majin-zō (魔人像, Magic Person Statue) & the Goddess Statues are Megami-zō (女神像, Goddess Statues), but that won't be the names I use for them.

Remember, this is my hc & I am allowed to take a couple of creative liberties here & there in my hc.

I actually see the Bargainer's Statues or Shinigami-bōzō (死神貿像, Death God Trade Statue) as being very early depictions of the Fierce Deity that act as bunshin for him in the same way that the Goddess Statues or Megami-hōzō (女神褒像, Goddess Reward Statues) act as bunshin for Hylia.

These depictions are not exactly accurate in a similar way to how the Goddess Statues are likely not accurate to how Hylia actually looked.

In this way, even though, as per my hc, Hylia & the Fierce Deity themselves have both been reincarnated several times over, their bunshin still exist & are able to watch over Hyrule & the Depths via their statues. Thus, in a way, the statues are like siblings to each other & the source god their parent in an abstract sense.

The reason I say this is because, again in my hc, one of the domains that the Fierce Deity rules over is death & the ferrying of souls to the afterlife.

If so, then this might explain why Link is always able to see the spirits of the departed. Why he can see the Poes. Why he can see the Shadow Soldiers upon the rock stacks in the Depths when no one else can.

However, something else I'd like to bring up is the Horned God Statue or Akuma-zō (悪魔像, Devil Statue). There is some evidence to suggest that the kami housed within it may also have been a Bargainer. However, obviously, something went wrong with this one & the bunshin of Hylia punished it for its life & power trades by putting it into the Horned God Statue or turning the statue of the Bargainer into the form of the Horned God Statue.

However, that doesn't necessarily debunk my theory. If you recall, Ravio was also quite the businessman who made a practice of selling things at quite high prices & he is Link's Lorule counterpart. In my mind, those who live in Lorule possess the same core souls as those in Hyrule. It is simply that their darker tendencies are brought forward a bit more. As such, it's possible that this is a part of the Hero's Spirit that we simply don't see often...

Except that we do see it quite regularly, don't we?

After all, heroes are quite prone to collecting things. Especially rupees.

And to be fair, the newly dug up Bargainer Statue in Lookout Landing also mentioned that since it'd been brought to the Surface, it'd been unable to return souls to the afterlife.

So, if the same thing happened to this perspective punished Bargainer, then it's very possible that after what may well have been 10,000 years, it might've tried to find a new purpose. One featuring a new bargain.

In my mind, the Sheikah were the ones who were supposed to bring the Poe Souls to the Bargainers, but that is obviously not taking place anymore.

And, perhaps, this punished Bargainer had originally been brought to the Surface to act as a point for Sheikah to return the souls that had returned to the Surface to take on the forms of enemy Poes & especially Imp Poes.

Though, what I find interesting is that this would mean that the Fierce Deity likely had 4 eyes in a similar way to how Rainbow Quartz from Steven Universe had 4 eyes. Which I'm very cool with!

ourboros and cycles and the destruction/recreation-isms of recovery in the way Eddie has to rebuild all but from scratch post-Kas, and that when he relapses and falters the cycle starts over, only this time "from scratch" has a slightly stronger foundation

El. Just El in general and the reasons what she does in this fic is the most in-character thing I've ever written for her I LOVE HER SO MUCH AND I LOVED WRITING HER IN THIS FIC

the collective theme of our young adults as people who don't "turn out" the way they're expected to, who end up following paths that make sense entirely even if they don't look like they do on the surface, particularly for both Steve and Nancy who shirk careers that everyone on the outside perceives as being perfect for them in favor of ones that feel right, even accomplish the same things but in a way that's more natural to them (and also the way this aligns with Eddie's own journey of not being what he looks like on the surface)

And facing Childhood Trauma

So in January, I got another psychological assessment done. I have Adhd, Autism, Cptsd, depression and anxiety. I wanted an updated one for the fight for disability services. I also have been in severe chronic pain since late august of 2023. It is due to a herniated disk pressing on the nerves. I have not worked since then. I also have mostly only worked part-time when I was working. I am Disabled.

I am going after SSDI and have a disability lawyer. My mother got SSI for me as a child up until I was about a teenager. For my fight with disability I asked my mother if she had those past documents. She found them and gave them to me. I figured it would be helpful.

I discovered a few things. I found an assessment from my school district from 99 that my teachers and mother noticed or suspected at least that I was on the adhd index. Also in another assessment done by the state, the main reason why I got SSI as a child because I showed some kind of developmental disorder that they labeled a personality disorder. I also had childhood depression. Now I grew up in the late 80s and 90s.

There may not have been many services for adhd and autism and women/girls went under the radar because our symptoms presented differently. It's possible my mother never read the documents in full. However, finding these made me so angry.

I was angry that she never did anything about it. I never received therapy or any special services other than speech therapy for my hearing issues. On top of it, mental/emotional abuse and physical abuse.

"You're so silly no wonder you don't have any friends"

"You're so slow....speed up"

"Don't be stupid"

"Don't talk back to me in that tone or you'll get spanked" *confused child here...what tone?*

Being punished for being annoying. My mother wrote down in the assessment I'd say one word over and over again. And it would annoy everyone.

"You're so childish. You need to grow up" um....the documents said I had a developmental disorder.

Me-"mom, I think there's something wrong with me."

Mom- "There's nothing wrong with you. It's all in your head."

The list can go on and on. I try not to think too much about these things. It made me angry at first, but I also now feel like crying. My mother was my first bully.

I also have been grieving due to suddenly finding myself physically disabled as well. I have been feeling like a part of my life is now over. It isn't what you think, though. I had many dreams squashed.

I've had many ideas on how to make it in this world financially and make my mark on the world. Being unable to work and realizing how dysfunctional I've been due to my adhd. Having ideas and projects that sit around collecting dust, having little to no energy to do anything. Motivation is hard unless I am in hyperfocus mode.

I have been sleeping most of the day because pain meds make me sleepy. My antidepressants also made me sleepy since I had to up the dose. I has at one point went into suicide ideation mode. Feeling like I would rather be dead than to feel this pain every day. Some days are better than others but not by much. Hence, there is a higher dose in meds.

I also realized I had internalized ablesm. Things I've thought about myself are based on the societal expectations of productivity, and I finally saw how people looked down on disabled people because of how I looked down on myself. I had many Ableist thoughts about myself that I had to let go of.

My therapist made me realize that just because I'm disabled doesn't mean I'm less than or not worthy of compassion and love. Several times, I've felt bad about myself because I am not physically able to do the things I used to do. Just because I'm disabled doesn't mean I'm worthless and a waste of space. My past bullies including my mom have always made me feel less than.

Setting myself free from this bullshit feels liberating. However, I notice it is still very much a part of society, and it is frustrating as hell 😑.

Also showers and taking care of oneself is so exauhsting...

There's so many feelings... some I don't even know how to express adequately. 😕

Backstory:

Edie lost her parents during the war, which led to her being taken in by George's family.

As they grew up together they got to know each other better until they eventually moved out together and inside their own house in Wellington Wells, where they lived as a couple until now.

George joined the Constabulary quite early, which was the reason why he was barely at home. Meanwhile Edie worked as a saleswoman in her own shop where she sold sweets, dolls and stuffed animals, among some other things.

She was always well-known for her little shop, but when the sweets ran out and the town started to run low on supplies, she had no other choice but to close it

She is very reserved, but when she makes friends with someone she opens up pretty quick. Though she's able to get along with pretty much anyone, sometime's she can get a little too close with some. Due to her being in an open relationship with her partner it's not a big deal though, as they both enjoy trying themselves out from time to time and then telling each other about their experiences later on (as far as they can still remember.)

Although most people refer to him as Constable Pride, Edie usually either calls him Puppy or by his second name, Daniel.

While she often uses calls him Puppy when greeting him on the open streets, she only really uses the Constable title for him in the bedroom. In return, George calls her Kitten. Though, when in public, he normally sticks to her real name unless noone else is around.

In their free time, Edie and George like to go picnicking and visiting old friends.

Edie is a very clumsy person as she often forgets to put on her happy-face before leaving the house and/or forgets to take her joy every once in a while. Her memory is already so bad from all the joy she's taken over the years that, even when she forgets to take it one time, she still can't remember anything about the war or what happened to the kids. This causes her to always seem positive on the outside nonetheless, and not cause any distress among the other villagers.

Since her partner knows about her forgetfulness, he always tries to remind her by putting sticky notes all over the house.

Though it barely helps as she usually spends most of her days outside the house, helping Sally Boyle by collecting stuff for her lab when she's running low on supplies or ingredients for her drugs.

Even though Sally is busy most of the time, she is one of Edie's closest friends and she's always thankful to have someone who helps her out when she's in a stressful situation.

In addition to Sally, Edie also regularly runs errands for Roger and James whenever they need something while they're busy helping Dr. Faraday. On less stressful days, when they're free from working, she's often invited by them for a cup of chicory or tea and some cake.

Shortly after her store closed, she received an invitation to the Reform Club as a kind of redemption. Since then, her and George often spend time there, either alone or together, to spice things up ane have fun.

They regularly tease or punish each other there, sometimes alone and sometimes together with some of the other members.

Her opinion on downers is rather neutral.

Even though she doesn't quite understand why anyone would voluntarily stop taking their joy, she is always ready to help them when they're in need of help.

So over this past weekend, I watched a 1978 TV movie version of Les Miserables, because it is my current brainrot.

Overall, I liked it. It's a movie/adaptation that very much knows what it wants to be about. Admittedly, (at least based on AO3 stats) I don't know if it would super appeal to the majority of the modern fandom, but it definitely appealed to me.

(I say this because...well, the entire 1832 sequence is condensed to the last 35ish minutes; a solid chunk of that is Cosette and Marius making googly eyes at each other (also dedicating a couple minutes to including his grandfather because sure); the only one of the boys who is named, let alone Identifiable, is Enjolras and he's...frankly kind of underwhelming.)

But basically, this movie knows it wants to be about Valjean and Javert first and foremost, and since the two of them (and their [actual or potential] dynamic(s) with Cosette) are what I'm here for, I'm good with that. For example, we spend a solid 15-20 minutes in Toulon with the two of them and it is Great.

In terms of marks against it, I will say that I think Fantine in particular gets kind of shortchanged in this adaptation; also Thenardier never resurfaces in Paris, he's only in the one scene where Valjean acquires Cosette--like I said, the 1832 sequence is relatively short compared to most other adaptations I'm familiar with, so a lot of stuff gets cut out. The movie also ends with Marius and Cosette's wedding, which feels a little abrupt (like...it goes sewers -> Javert's death -> wedding -> roll credits). There are also a few bits of staging that didn't age super well and some facial hair that is. Very Seventies, but those are fairly minor things.

Again, overall, I liked it. It knows what it wants to be; what it wants to be appeals to me, personally, very much. There are some Good bits and some Eh bits, overall it's solid.

So with all of that, now I get to the reason why I'm making this post, and why I think you should watch it anyway, and that is Anthony Perkins as Javert. Because he is just. Fucking incredible.

Like. Cannot overstate how well this man understood the assignment.

A lot of it comes down to pretty subtle things--facial expressions; the way he looks at Valjean at different points in the storyline; the way (apart from two scenes) he's always pretty collected on the surface, even in moments when he's Clearly either Seething or Breaking underneath. (The final conversation in the sewer is just. His Entire Face.) (Also the moment where he first spots Valjean again in 1832; doesn't recognize him at first; the wheels are Visibly turning in his head and then he goes oh my god what the fuck. It's a Delight.) (And of course, the 'I fucked up and denounced you unfairly, you should punish me' scene is. Again, holding himself together on the surface but Breaking underneath and. Especially in contrast to the next scene/the confrontation at Fantine's deathbed which is one of the two scenes where he is Not particularly collected.) (And then there's that one Really Awkward Carriage Ride shortly after.)

I was going to get screencaps of some of these and. It doesn't. It doesn't really convey the full effect if he's not in motion, alas.

Essentially, the movie is fully leaning into him as a deuteragonist and I am Here For It.

(Full disclosure, I do ship them, and. This movie supports that. There's. There's a lot of staring. One might even say Gazing.)

Anyway, the whole thing is on YouTube and I highly recommend watching it, if only for Anthony Perkins as Javert.

((I have also discovered that the 2012 film of the musical is available on Netflix; so that's probably what I'm going to do next weekend after I move. I haven't seen it since it was in theatres, and my recollection is that, while there were definitely some Choices that didn't work out, overall it got a lot more flak than it deserved. We'll see if I feel the same way now, 10 and a half years later, lol.))

Friendly reminder that unemployment stats don't count students, or people who haven't "actively looked for work in the last 4 weeks." So if you've been sick over the last month and couldn't fill out apps, are newly disabled but can't receive benefits, homeless, are going to school, just had a baby.... Basically literally anything other than a completely healthy, application filling machine-- you're not counted as "being in the labor force" and therefore not unemployed. Even if you have no job and haven't been able to get one for months. This is especially true for the homeless population. A lot of them can't apply for jobs because of lack of resources. And even when they can, they are usually overlooked in favor of someone housed with reliable transportation.

The US can then ignore and gaslight the lower class and the impoverished and say "no look! People are applying for jobs! Everything is fine! Business is booming!" While they kick the corpses of the people they're letting die behind the curtains.

Then the upper class can go "See! You can't find a job because you're LAZY!!! The unemployment rate is the lowest it's ever been! There's something wrong with YOU."

This is why everyone you know may not be able to find work despite the "fact" that the unemployment rate is low. It's intentional. They KNOW what they're doing. The KNOW there's a crisis. But the people in power believe that the poor are annoyances that should be carefully controlled and punished for being poor. And they can do that by pushing stats that enable social control. Then they use those stats to convince older generations or higher classes that the reason people are poor and homeless actually ISN'T because they've failed every social and medical duty a government has to it's people, but because it's people are LAZY. Still same talking points as his posts from the day before, but he's elaborating on them. He's asking again how CAPA came up with that list. He also elaborated on his thoughts about the 10-day appeal, because usually when it come to legal penalties, you have to appeal to an entity higher than the one that doled out the penalty. CAPA however stated in their list that it will be handled by their own secretariats. So they are basically requiring the artists they boycotted to appeal back to them. He says this leaves a lot of room for problems.

He questioned CAPA having a membership fee of 2,000 yuan (annual) and with their 10,000 plus members, that's a lot of money. Where is that money going? How is it spent and for what purpose? He is involved in many associations & they all explicitly prohibit the collection of fees. Why does CAPA charge their members?

He said his questions are meant to make CAPA better, regulate themselves more efficiently and be more responsible to society. He is surprised that their secretariat can accept appeals since that would indicate they hold a lot of power. Even government departments have to follow the consitution and they cannot punish people beyond state laws and regulations and yet a mere industry association like CAPA is doing exactly just that.

He doesn't blame people for being dissatisfied with CAPA's banned artists list, because there is no transparency regarding the whole process. People have reason to doubt and ask questions because with the murky nature of their system it's easy to have doubts like only people who have a good relationship with CAPA will be free from their punishments. He's also saying that if CAPA can dole out such punishments, does it mean the associations he is a part of can also do the same? It would be a mess if every single association has the power to make banned lists like this.

He said this needs to attract the attention of government authorities. The way their (CAPA) system is set up can really lead to corruption. He stressed that he supports the punishment of celebs with poor morality but that it needs to be on the basis of the law. The way CAPA goes about things is reminiscent of the blackmailing from the old days.

He knows that by doing this he will be stepping on certain people's toes and offend them, but he is not worried because he believes in the law, loves his country and the party, and always strives to produce good works for the party and the people. note: CAPA is only one of many industry orgs. There are 14 associations for the arts in China. They are part of the China Federation of Literarary and Art Circles (CFLAC) (中国文学艺术界联合会) With their actions, CAPA is seemingly pulling authority over all these other orgs.

notes: The documents from the NRTA and MCT are from the weibo netizen who inquired after the supposed banned artist list and about ZZH. Both stated that they did not ban him and that no such banned artist list exists.

Wu Yifan and Zheng Shuang are legit banned artists. They have had statements issued about them from the NRTA. Wu Yifan is being investigated for multiple cases of rape, and Zheng Shuang for surrogacy and tax evasion.

He doesn't think it fair that ZZH was lumped in with actual banned artists who have committed crimes. He does not know ZZH at all personally, has never seen his works, doesn't even know exactly whether he's an actor or a singer.

He stressed the importance of the law, that the punishment must fit the crime, and that people should be given the chance of a fair and just trial to defend themselves. Punishing inferior artists who have broken laws and committed crimes is meant to serve as a warning to other artists, and for them to be positive role models and examples of Chinese people, but he says that once judgement is passed, they should be given the chance to defend themselves and not be accused of wasting resources for wanting to clear their names. He thinks that the Party has always put great importance in the law. NRTA and MCT both said they did not ban ZZH or deem him immoral, so what is CAPA's basis for putting him on that list? With the rapid flow of information and opinions on social media, that list will surely have a very negative effect on his career. Without spending effort and resources on good PR, it will be very hard for him to even have a future. And what kind of PR would he even need to overturn such a damning image?

He wants to know how the list of banned artists was put together, and who did it. He brought up a female artist, Meng Meiqi, and asked why she is not in the list. He asked what the relationship is between Yuehua Entertainment and CAPA.

Anya Notes/Theories

Polle's dialogue color is the same as Anya's, which implies that the Polle and Anya are irrevocably connected through the fucked-up Jimmy lens. Some people have taken that as Polle representing the baby, which I think is valid (especially centipede-polle) but I think Polle also being representitive of Anya herself in Jimmy's subconscious is also accurate. Because Polle DOES look pregnant, because Polle DOES call Jimmy out for not once thinking of his impact on Anya. Misogyny operates under the distain of, fear of, and entitlement to women's bodies and autonomy all at the same time.

Anya, in reality, is not a perfect manifestation of Pony Express, and is absolutely suffering under the parameters and conditions of Pony Express's business structure. It even says on the safety posters that HR complaints will result in collective punishment. She is doing psych evals that go nowhere, and when Jimmy is sexually harassing her with his answers, he is projecting his relationship to Pony Express onto her. "Sexually attracted to cartoon horses," said to one of the only people he can impose his power over through assault and harassment. I also don't think it is too much of a stretch to imagine he resents her for the nature of the work she does. After all, she's not a real doctor, not a real nurse, and doesn't have to do any *real* work in his eyes.

The only pseudo-HR they have on this long-haul come in the form of Anya (doing psych evals and well-checks, the positivity platitudes on her wall, etc) and Curly, making hard decisions, but also trying to understand his team and keep them afloat under the circumstances. They both, in a way, represent Pony Express, to Jimmy, which is why I think Jimmy's ire is directed to the two of them more than anyone else.

Curly Notes/Theories

I have the theory that Curly offering to keep this incident off the record for Anya is actually trying to help HER more than help JIMMY because she herself says that she doesn't have any savings, and you know that the recently bankrupt Pony Express will be trying to nickel-and-dime everyone's final checks. A complaint like this would only give them more reason, and I promise you they'd find a way to be even more punitive to Anya than anyone else. (Because they are Space Amazon)

The desire to keep higher-ups from finding out about an incident this big when you know their reaction is going to be collective punishment (which lacks of any kind of compassion in any way shape or form for any party involved, thus the most injured will suffer all the more,) prompts intervention, secrecy, and whatever meagre protection Curly is able to offer as their captain.

I think that Curly's fatal flaws as a leader are 1) his determined optimism, and 2) that he cannot turn off his empathy for everyone. As a result, his personal principles are at war with his duties in his job role as Captain. As Swansea put it; every year you get tougher, meaner, and smarter in a worse way. Those are the traits you have to internalize on some level to survive in a capitalist, hierarchal, corporate structure.

I don't think Curly ever had what it took to convince Jimmy to take accountability/responsibility for his actions, even before the crash. That always had to be Jimmy's idea. I also think that it is not outside the realm of possibility that Curly also knew that; and likely envisioned trying to lead Jimmy to that conclusion, slowly, to minimize the impact of Jimmy on the others. I think his blind spot was the degree to which Jimmy disregards others. His personal relationship with Jimmy was positive—so when their conversation about Anya being pregnant happens, and Jimmy implies he's going to do something drastic—I think that this paralyzes Curly. He is forced very quickly to realize that he didn't actually know Jimmy very well at all, and that there is no reaching him.

(According to sans, he only takes it off if he has no other choice too. Otherwise he'll just put clothes ontop of it, or just repaints it if needed. He does how ever, change his pants but never takes off the top.)

the minute "royal gaurd " is out of the picture, he's got nothing.

(It was the one thing he worked up for. When the royal gaurd disbands He says he "working hard on doing absolutely nothing". Then again this can be interpreted as papyrus does say he is working on something, despite not being a royal gaurd yet.)

(Though he is really bad at lying, he seems to manipulate just fine, though its usually not out of malice. He gets undyne to befreind you by mentioning "challenge", which is a weakness of hers, since she never can turn down a challenge. And has lied about floweys name to her to. Has lied to sans or atleast mislead him about the things he knows about. Pretended he didn't know what a lab was during a call in hotland, but if you call him when sans isn't there, papyrus mentions the lab as if it was common knowledge instead of saying "Labrador-y?" As if he had no idea.)

Changes up his attacks

( if you get captured a few times, you see variation in his attacks. If you do it right, you can get him too skip half of his entire attack.)

Calls his own puzzles "Awful"

(This happens after battling papyrus, he says "WHO KNEW THAT ALL I NEEDED TO MAKE PALS... WAS TO GIVE PEOPLE AWFUL PUZZLES AND THEN FIGHT THEM??" This could be interpreted in many ways.)

Spikes, fire, traps, fencless bridges: are all safe for children, according to papyrus.
