not to expound upon the political implications of fandom every chance i get but noel gruber is revolutionary gay representation because he wants to be fucked up and evil and it is so disheartening to see transformative works where they act like his wants and personality are character flaws. roadblocks in the way of the most conventional and milquetoast gay romance story ever put to word document. which isn’t terrible but the fact of the matter is noel gruber exists to say not every gay person wants to be normal or wants to have a normal easy heteroimitative life. marlene dietrich was a bisexual woman who endured mountains of hardship on every level and did important things and made important art. jean genet was a writer and activist who lived on the fringes of society doing survival sex work for most of his youth. liberace was never *out* out and was torn apart relentlessly by tabloids about his life. these are the people he canonically admires, he wants to be a starving artist and live a fantastic, queer, risky life that offends and challenges the mainstream. not because he is too naive to want a normal quiet life, but because he was raised in the bosom of the most banal, sterile, conservative small town existence he could have possibly been in and knows for a fact he wants the complete opposite. queer assimilation to the heteronormative standards of life has been a powerful tool in our survival, yes, but the point of that is to survive to make a world where that isn’t necessary anymore. the ease straight white cis abled society offers is one that exists at the expense of those who do not fit it. that is why the girl is fucked up. in a perfect world she shouldn’t have to be any other way.
#idk I just started reading a massively hyped transformative work in the fandom and jfc#it doesn’t hurt anybody and I know why it’s there#but dear lord#the amount of times they go out of their way to either implicitly or explicitly#punish or contort the aspects of Noel that make him fucked up#it’s just interesting#esp because they also make him trans which is why I’m reserving judgement#obviously they’ve done some of the work bc they’re not being weird about his gender expression#but OOOF you’re so close come on come on you can do it#also my other favorite character is constance and I can talk about black joy and radical acceptance with her for hours#but understanding what is oppressive about small conservative hegemony is crucial to understanding noel#and tbh thats his flaw to overcome by the end of the show imo#going from take me up and away above this small town cliche#to befriending mischa and sharing Constance’s joy during sugar cloud#realizing he did challenge people and was tragic and counter culture in his own way#in his own silly little small town#that’s the mountain he scales#to stop reducing his own accomplishments#but that has nothing to do with changing the fact that he doesn’t want to be like everyone else#and would have taken his queer rebellion further if he could have#ride the cyclone

Shaw Pack Flowers pt2
flowers I'd give to every member of the Shaw Pack and why part 2
Christian - Red Lilacs with a mix of matching peonies! the color red means in this case anger and passion. Christian has a lot of pent-up anger as he feels he was cheated out of becoming beta. he tends to get annoyed whenever everyone calls out his obvious relationship with Amanda. however, he is passionate about his pack. even if he can be a bit of an ass- now to the flowers! Peonies mean Compassion and Bashfulness. why? he cares about the people around him a lot! and he can get very flustered when confronted about his relationship and or gifts. Lilacs mean confidence and innocence though we're only gonna take confidence in this case. After all everyone could use a little more of that
Marie - (she can have my hand in marriage honestly) I am giving her some Roses of course!(I love her some much- I'm biased) Pink roses and some blue Chamomiles. Pink roses mean Gratitude, grace, and joy though were only taking 1 of those meanings. Grace because let's be real here she had to be really patient and fast with Colm's behavior. while The color blue means calm, trust, and intelligence though we only takin 2 of those Calm and intelligent. She had to be smart in dealing with Colm's gambling habit while also being calm enough to raise their son. Chamomiles mean patience and wealth. do I really need to explain that?
Arden - the resident troublemaker! I'm giving her some Orange Hyacinths! The color orange in this case means Creativity, youth, and enthusiasm. arden is one of the younger wolf-shifters in the pack! with her creative ways of picking on Chrissy! She just wants to have some fun you know? that being said Hyacinths mean Playfulness ad constancy. yes shes is playful and sometimes disrespectful- she's constant with it at least (IM JOKING IM JOKING! She is an amazing team player. )
Amanda - honestly I don't know much about Amanda however- from what I've heard about her I think I'm going to give her some Peach roses. Why? well, peach roses mean Sincerity, gratitude, and sympathy. her relationship with Christan shows how much she loves and cares for him. while after the inversion she wanted him to come with her back to her parents. She wanted to show her gratitude by living a safe life with Christan. the sincerity of not having to be hidden anymore. but earning her sympathy when declined. She understood.. (pink roses would also suit her)
Gabe - I could just make a meme here and give him some black roses and say it means death (which is one of their many meanings) but I'm not going to do that.. I would give him forget-me-nots and delphiniums. whenever David talks about his dad it's always mentioned just how of a big heart he had. and how playful he could be at times. and guess what just happens to mean Big-hearted? Delphiniums! Gabe has so many good memories that the pack still talks about to this day. and true love.. something Gabe had and then lost. But now they get to see the man their son has grown to be together.
Colm - Black and White roses.. in the case of Colm, he let his work ruin him. and well.. he found an outlet. it wasn't a healthy one. and all he can hope now is to fix what he broke. even if it's too late. Black roses can mean a lot however in colms case they're going to mean Rebirth and new beginnings. White roses mean redemption and grace. I shouldn't have to explain this reasoning.
BONUS
David's Mom - Her favorite flowers were honeysuckle and they're the perfect flowers to give her. they can mean Love, devotion happiness, and new beginnings! there is doubt in my mind that this woman was a joy to be around, someone who balanced out Gabe. And someone who wanted everything for her son. She was an amazing woman. and her choice of such makes me think that even more.
and here's the part 2 I was talking about! @dawnofiight
let me know if there is any other characters you want me to do

Rules:
Pick 5 TV shows, then answer the following questions. Tag 10 (or however many) people.
I was tagged by the wonderful @princess-of-france, thank you!
For a change, I thought I'd pick some shows that I don't talk about as much - excluding for the moment things like the Hour or Firefly or In The Flesh (man did a lot of my favorite shows not last long, also rip the Get Down), or Please Like Me or Derry Girls, or- anyways, here goes
Downton Abbey
Orphan Black
The Musketeers
The Americans
Broadchurch
Who is your favorite character in 2? So I am going to disregard the singular right away, and say Cosima, Felix, and Helena. Apart from their assortment of wonderful individual qualities, I think all three share a great capacity for kindness, albeit one that manifests in different ways.
Who is your least favorite character in 1? Richard(?), that atrocious man Mary almost married. And that other, painfully dull guy Mary almost married in s4 or 5. Rose’s father is also not in my good books.
What is your favorite episode of 4? START, 6x10, the series finale. Hands down one of the best final episodes of any show. As a conclusion, it’s perfect: not necessarily a happy ending, but unquestionably the right one.
What is your favorite season of 5? I do love all of them, and think they’re equally important. Perhaps s3, if for no other reason than the fact that s1-2 form something of a full arc, and can hardly be picked apart.
Who is your favorite couple in 3? It’s that rare show where I like most of the main couples for a while? Athos and Milady have just the right amount of love-to-hate-to-love, and a lot of growth; D’Artagnan and Constance are adorable; but I suppose if I have to pick a favorite it’s gotta be Anne and Aramis. The Romance of it all... Notwithstanding the utter improbability.
Who is your favorite couple in 2? I guess Cosima and Delphine? But I’m not as invested in them as one might expect.
What is your favorite episode of 1? I have a whimsical fondness for 1x03, with the Turkish Gentleman. But more seriously, probably the season 2 finale, with the Proposal. It’s a moment of such pure joy, and so well earned throughout the season.
What is your favorite episode of 5? That’s tough, bc the episodes in Broadchurch feel more like chapters of a single story than individual pieces. I could say 1x01 because it sets up Ellie and Alec’s dynamic so beautifully, and lays the groundwork for the season in such subtle ways, but tbh similar things might be said about any of them.
What is your favorite season of 2? Perhaps s1? Or, at any rate, the early seasons plus s5. I think the introduction of the male clones made for a bit of a clunky plot for a while.
How long have you watched 1? For years, probably since 2012 or thereabouts? I know I took in Matthew’s death in real time, but I’m not sure how long I’d been watching for by then.
How did you become interested in 3? I resisted for ages bc I tried watching e1 and saw it was nothing like the book. But then I thought, let’s treat this as fanfiction. And realized it’s maybe 5% book 95% new, so I needn’t be bothered about that at all. And when the characters are such a delight, and the plots are so ridiculous and fun-
Who is your favorite actor in 4? Keri Russell. What a talent.
Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5? I think Broadchurch is ultimately the best-crafted series of the three. But Downton’s the one I rewatch the most, and the one closest to my heart.
Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3? Downton for sure. There’s just more of it than the Musketeers, and I don’t rewatch the latter’s s3 very much save for a few select moments.
If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be? Oh shit. I wouldn’t wish their lives on anyone tbh. Maybe Paige, bc she get’s something of a choice, and has access to both worlds, inasumuch as anyone does.
Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? Um. Temporally, not at all. But I can see Elizabeth and Peter doing well as spies in 17th century Paris, so perhaps a sort of Americans historical AU where they encounter the musketeers. Except they’re not the Americans anymore, but the Français.
Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple? Sybil and Gwen would have been cute.
Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5? Broadchurch. The Musketeers s3 is very hit and miss, and when it comes to plot, perhaps more miss than hit.
Which has better theme music, 2 or 4? Orphan Black has the better music, but the Americans has the better visual title sequence.
Tagging @abigaylhobbs @monstermonstre @gabideservesbetter @chynoweths @tiffanyachings. Only if you guys want to though!
