Is LUCA worth watching? I was thinking about picking it up but Kim Rae won gave me the creeps as the ML in Doctors so idk
luca is so fucking nuts and it somehow works i’m having so much fun i think it’s my favorite thing i’m watching right now lmaooo like i also can’t stand krw but it’s shockingly not affecting my viewer experience if anything my dislike of him is making this better bc his character is suffering so fucking much that i’m just like haha too true! and the rest of the cast is excellent so i’m like whatever about him lol but like the literal very first scene is a baby getting thrown off a building into a hole in the ground and that baby is an amnesiac electric eel man which really sets the tone for the rest of the drama like the last episode a man gets killed by a gorilla it’s incredible akdsfjsdkf do not recommend tho if u have a severe needles going into necks phobia bc there’s like 20 of those an episode as well as like lots of bitches getting their skin fried off.......spinal taps....torture.....can’t wait for next week!!

'Supernatural' Gets Back to The Family Business with Tombstone
I’ve been a happy Supernatural fangirl so far in Season 13, and episode 13.06 was also a win in my book. I’m not over the moon like I was last week, but it was a solid episode with great performances once again – both dramatic and funny as hell -- and some great directing by Nina Lopez-Corrado, one of my favorite SPN directors. Also a special shout out to Jay Gruska for the awesome music throughout the episode, both instrumental and song choice. This was one of those episodes that had a specific “feel” to it, with the writing (by Davy Perez), directing, music and set decoration all contributing to make it wonderful. Supernatural has done a Western episode before, so this one didn’t carry the first time thrill of OMG we get to see Sam and Dean in the old west, but it’s been a while, so I was eager to see Dean Winchester put on boots and a cowboy hat once again. And this episode marked a change in tone for the season that was significant– having Castiel back is that ‘one win’ that Dean so badly needed in order to rekindle some spark of hope so he can care again. He told Sam at the end of the last episode that he just needed a win, and he got a big one. Castiel is back, against all odds. That’s wonderful in itself, but maybe that means other things can change for the better as well. Dean has hope again, and a renewed belief that maybe what they do really CAN make a difference – just by knowing that good things can still happen. Miracles, even. I think we’ve all missed Dean’s personality this season since his usual sense of humor and ability to take great delight in even the smallest things has been quashed by his depression, grief, and hopelessness. In this episode, we start to see the Dean Winchester we know and love come back to life, and it feels almost as good as when I see that start to happen with a real person, whether a client or a friend. I’ve missed this side of you, Dean Winchester! The episode starts with a flashlight-lit chase in a graveyard with Dean and some sheriff guy we don’t recognize until he disappears down a hole grabbed by who knows what. Then it’s “48 Hours Earlier, ” and we’re back to where we left off, as Sam and Dean react to the surprise return of Cas. Sam: I don’t know what to say… Dean: I do. Welcome home, pal. You can see how desperate Dean is for that win – he barely hesitates, he needs to believe this is really Cas from the get-go. The relief on his face as he embraces his friend is palpable. Cas gets a Sam hug too, and soon enough they all figure out who probably helped bring Castiel back – Jack. [caption id="attachment_51128" align="aligncenter" width="696"] Caps by @kayb625[/caption] One of my favorite scenes was the Jack and Cas reunion. These two have an odd bond, forged before Jack was even born, but it’s clearly one that’s strong and very real to both of them. Cas and Jack hug – this episode is a veritable hug fest for Supernatural – and you can see how glad Jack is to have Castiel back. Jack: I missed you so much. Awwww. Jack just breaks my heart with his innocence and his absolute determination to make Sam and Dean (and now Cas) proud of him. He shows off his ability to finally move the pencil with his mind, the thing Sam asked him to do earlier. And he finds them a case too! Dean: How did you learn to do that? Jack: (proudly) I learned by watching you and Sam. This season really is My Two Dads. (Now My Three Dads…) Jack’s so proud of himself, so thrilled that he can finally do something FOR the Winchesters. At first, they’re all skeptical about pursuing it, but then Jack mentions that the case is in Dodge City, and you can see the moment it registers with Dean. He tries to hide it, but that little boy smile is already in evidence. Dodge City?? Cowboys!! Cas: (realizing what’s going through Dean’s mind) Wait, really? Cas looks at Sam for confirmation of his skepticism, the two of them both amused by and incredulous at Dean, which was all kinds of adorable. I love when Cas and Sam share an eye-roll over Dean that doesn’t really hide their affection for him one bit. Dean: Two salty hunters, a half-angel kid, a dude just come back from the dead – again… it’s Team Free Will 2.0! Who can say no to Dean when he’s that excited about something? Not Sam and Cas, that’s for sure. Next thing you know, they’re in Dodge City, where the Impala looks just as damn sexy as she does in any other part of the country. Their hotel room is so Western-themed that it looks like an amusement park, much to Dean’s over the top delight. And I mean that in the best way possible. Kudos to Jerry Wanek and company for decking that room out to be amazing. Dean’s smile and excitement, and the way he geeks out over all the photos of gunslingers, knowing every detail about them? It’s fanboy Dean, one of my favorite things in the whole universe. I have missed that smile so much! Jack: (deadpans) He really likes cowboys. Cas: Yes. Yes, he does. Dean: This is awesome! We didn’t get too many scenes between the brothers in this episode, which I always want more of, but there was a nice little conversation between Sam and Dean that carries on that open communication thing that I’m loving this season. Sam: You’re in a good mood, huh? I love that Sam noticed and that he said something too. It’s the theme of this season – feel it, say it! Keep doing this, boys! Sam: You’ve been having a rough go of it. It’s good to see you smile. Awwww. Sam’s consideration for his struggling brother has been so heartwarming this season. Have I mentioned I really love you, Sam Winchester? And I agree wholeheartedly. Meanwhile, Nina Lopez Corrado directs the hell out of a very scary scene during which a hapless red shirted deputy gets killed by what turns out to be a grave robbing ghoul. Nicely done, Nina! Cas and Jack stay up late and have a heart to heart while the Winchesters turn in. Jack: You can have the couch, I don’t sleep much. Cas: (deadpans) I don’t sleep at all. I love these two together, gotta say. They are both a little bit awkward, which it turns out is twice as hilarious when they’re talking to each other. And yet they’re both very earnest, so it tugs at my heartstrings at the same time. Cas apologizes to Jack for not being there for him, but Jack isn’t holding it against him. He also tries to encourage Jack to keep trying, saying that his mother believed that he was good, that he’d do good in the world. Cas: I know that she was right. That WE were right. Kelly would be proud of you. It’s a sweet moment, and Misha Collins plays it with just the right amount of emotion. This is a side of Castiel we haven’t seen that much of, when he’s open and expressive, and we get a glimpse of who he really is and how he feels. Also in keeping with this being the season of Tell-Me-How-You-Feel. And I like it! The moment is interrupted by Jack figuring out the next step of the case. He jumps up to wake Sam and Dean. Cas runs after him trying to warn Jack with ‘hey I wouldn’t do that….’ But Jack already has a hand on Dean, who predictably jumps up from a sound sleep with a gun already aimed at Jack’s head. Ummm… is it hot in here?? Competency kink plus two Winchesters in single layer tee shirts??? Yeah, it’s definitely hot in here. Dean: (grumbling sleepily) Who’s makin’ me coffee? Cas to Jack: I told you, he’s an angry sleeper. Like a bear. That was fodder for all sorts of internet jokes, but it was also just delivered in a very funny way. Despite this being an emotional episode, everyone brought their A game for those little comedic moments, and they all hit just right. Dean indeed refuses to speak or get up and do anything until he’s had his coffee, which he conveys to Cas with just a hand signal. Also hilarious. And Dean is still wearing only a tight tee shirt. So yeah, it’s still hot in here. We’ve also gotten some interesting tidbits of character development this season, sometimes in small moments like this one. Dean’s grumpiness in the morning and his love of coffee are common in fanfiction, for example, so it’s nice to have those traits confirmed in canon. Sam and Jack head out to investigate the grave robberies, and Dean and Castiel head out to investigate the murder. Dean insists they need to “blend in,” which means we get the long-anticipated scene of both Dean and Cas in cowboy hats. Dean has to adjust Castiel’s hat and give him some instruction in how to behave first because Dean is an authority on all things cowboy, which is adorable. Dean: Act like you’re from Tombstone. Cas: The town? Dean: The movie! I made you watch it. Cas: (longsuffering) I’m your Huckleberry. Dean: It’s good to have you back, Cas. Satisfied, Dean gets out of the car. Thank you, Nina, for the slow-mo montage that lovingly pans up Dean Winchester in all his Western decked out glory as he does, from those gorgeous boots to those long bowlegs to the white shirt and bolo and scruff and hat. Mm mm mm. Dean and Cas “saunter” up the road, Impala gleaming behind them, “Space Cowboy” playing as they walk. It was pretty epic. I enjoyed Dean and Cas getting to play cowboys, and their scene together was cherished by anyone who happens to ship that ship. I’m all for everyone enjoying whatever it is they enjoy about the show, though articles that try to get hits by setting it up as a zero-sum game (it’s either Dean and Cas or it’s Dean and Sam) just create dissension and tear the fandom apart. So boo for that. Anyway, I enjoyed their cowboy dress up (though I admit I would have loved to see Sam decked out too!) The sergeant, however, is not all that impressed – which is HILARIOUS. All the kudos to guest actor Eric Schweig who made the best faces every time Dean or Cas said something questionable. Cas: I’m… my name is Val Kilmer. I burst into laughter. Dean just closes his eyes in defeat. Sarge mistakes them for Texas Rangers, which makes Dean gleeful. He tells them the murdered man was his nephew, who he’s known since the boy was a day old, and now there’s some emotional resonance at the same time as Sarge’s skeptical “mm hmm” keeps making me giggle. Kudos to all the actors and to Nina for making sure every single humorous moment landed perfectly. Meanwhile, Sam and Jack surprise the town undertaker, a young woman named Athena. More great music is playing on her headphones – about Zombies no less. Just as Sarge was skeptical about Cas, Athena is skeptical about FBI agent Jack. Athena: He’s an FBI agent? Did his parents sign a permission slip? Sam: He’s a trainee… Kudos to guest actress Sarah Troyer for bringing real personality to Athena even in a small role – I think we were all rooting for her (both to survive and to dump that crappy boyfriend…) Sam eventually digs up a gnawed up bone in the graveyard, and now they know it’s a ghoul. When Cas and Dean return, Jack manages to pull up surveillance footage and now they can clearly see the guy driving the truck before the murder. Dean: (delightedly) That’s Dave Mather! Dean once again geeks out over the gunslinger, even if the actual person has been dead for a very long time and this is actually a ghoul wearing his face and adopting a lot of his persona. Jack: (delighted to be helping): That’s Athena’s boyfriend! Dean: Let me get my boots on! We find out that Dave isn’t exactly the nicest guy – he doesn’t respect Athena’s boundaries and seems awfully pushy to me. Oh, and he’s a ghoul. I mean, she doesn’t know it yet, but I feel like he was sending out some pretty clear signals about what kind of boyfriend material he is – as in, ‘run away run away!’ The Impala pulls up to Athena’s house with fabulous Spaghetti Western music playing, where Athena tells them Dave headed to the bank. He’s already pulled off a bank robbery, but is confronted by Sam and Dean with rifles drawn. Somehow, the Winchesters – who we know are crack shots – manage to miss nearly every one. What the hell, Show? Finally, Jack steps up to save the day, using his powers to knock Dave on his ass after Dave shoots him. Tragically, that also makes the poor security guard fly through the air – and right into a concrete pillar. Jack is horrified, looking stricken as the guard lies there bleeding. Jack begs Cas to heal him, but Cas can’t. Sam: He’s dead. Dean chases Dave into the street, nearly gets run over (by a car whose driver must have thought huh that guy’s carrying a big rifle…) and loses him. The Winchesters aren’t exactly the awesome hunters they usually are today, are they? I don’t really like that, Show, just so you know. The three dads discuss what to do while Jack sits stricken in the other room. Finally Dean says that Sam and Cas need to take Jack back to the bunker, for his own safety. Dean goes after the ghoul alone, which always makes me nervous. He meets up with Sarge, also there to take no prisoners. The two understand each other in a way that reminds me of Henrickson and Dean in early seasons – two hardened men, ready to do what needs to be done. Dean and Sarge understand each other. Dean: Where’s your badge? Sarge: Don’t need one. This is family business. And if anyone understands family business? It’s Dean Winchester. We return to the opening scene, and Sarge soon disappears, pulled into the deep hole in the ground in the graveyard. Dean runs up to find only his hat beside the gaping hole. Dean: (looking down) Ah hell. (Jensen Ackles’ Texas twang much in evidence, much to my delight) Dean looks again, shaking his head and talking to himself. Dean: Mm mm, no. I don’t wanna…Okay… And in that split second, he talks himself into doing what he needs to do and throws himself down the hole anyway. We know how much he hates crawling through the very skinny tunnel, dirt all over him. His gun gets stuck, and Jensen Ackles’ comedy genius is showcased a thousand percent. Dean: Perfect! (spits out dirt loudly) Sure, come to Dodge City, have some fun… When he comes to the end of the tunnel, he throws himself out the exit right onto the floor in a heap. By that time, I was laughing out loud. I bet Ackles ad-libbed some of that – can’t wait to ask him at the next con I’m at! The bad guy comes back shortly after Dean discovers a tied up Athena and a beaten up Sarge, and he orders Dean to get his hands up. Dean complies, but slowly, exchanging a wordless plan with Sarge. Dean taunts Dave, but it’s Sarge who fires from behind him, blowing the ghoul’s head right off. Once the dust has cleared, Sarge asks Dean what happened – because he clearly knows that’s the theme of Season 13. Sarge: What actually happened back there? Dean: Dave killed the deputy…and the guard…you killed him. I was never here. Sarge: Fair enough. I kinda love Sarge. Meanwhile, Sam drives back to the bunker, Cas riding shotgun and Jack in the back. Sam and Cas try to convince Jack that it wasn’t his fault, that it was ‘just a mistake,' but Jack isn’t really having it. Back at the bunker, Dean returns. Sam asks him how it went. Dean: Usual. Killed the bad guy. Saved the girl. He makes it sound so simple, but that is such a big deal for Dean right now. This is how Dean defines his purpose in life – this is what he does, as a hunter. Saving people, hunting things. Recently he hasn’t been able to do that, and it drove him into a deep depression. Now he’s got another win, added to the return of Cas. He’s back to doing “the usual” – and it must feel so very very good. Sam: And the guard? Dean: I took care of it. That brings an explosion from Jack, who is feeling terribly guilty. He demands to know if the guard had a family, and Dean doesn’t lie to him. Dean: Yes, he did. Sam again tries to say that it’s okay, that this life is difficult. Jack: DON’T. Sam raises his hands in surrender, and you can see the moment that registers with Jack. Jack: (dismayed) You’re afraid of me. Maybe you’re right…maybe I’m just another monster. This time it’s Dean who responds, and it sorta makes my eyes water. Dean: No. You’re not. I thought you were. I did. But like Sam said, we’ve all done bad. If you’re a monster, we’re all monsters. It’s a good speech, and Dean means it, but Jack is actually the one who’s terrified – terrified that he’ll hurt someone else. Terrified that he’ll hurt Sam and Dean and Castiel. Jack: (despairing) I can’t even do one good thing. I know that if I stay, I’m gonna hurt you, all of you. And I can’t. You’re all I have. Oh, Jack. Where are my tissues? Jack: I have to do. I’m so sorry. He blasts the three of them to the floor, and he’s gone – with the sounds of wings. Castiel: Jack!!! Sam: He’s gone. I knew Jack would be going, but I’m full of trepidation about what that means. Will Asmodeus try to turn him again? Will he succeed, now that Jack is alone and vulnerable? Finally, Dean believes in him, but now Jack doesn’t believe in himself. It really is breaking my heart. On the other hand, the Winchesters are getting back to being the Winchesters, Cas is back, and things seem a bit more hopeful. I’m sure that just means that Show will break my heart a million times over, but for right now, I’ll take it. Fingers crossed for episode 7 War of the Worlds which you can see the trailer for above. A Countdown of Our Top Blog Posts of 2018 (Which Was Your Favorite?)
2018 was a big (HUGE) year for EHD. The staff doubled in size (SAY WHAT?!?), we wrapped up the labor of love that was the Portland Project (stay tuned for more reveals in 2019), the mountain fixer is ALMOST DONE (and by almost done, we mean there are walls and floors and bathrooms and a kitchen…furnishings are still TBD-head to this post for the most recent update), we launched two super awesome new sections of the site-all the cool kids are hanging out in the Rooms and Shop page, are you?-so yeah, pretty epic. And just wait for next year. We're predicting that 2019 is going to be full of so.many.amazing.things, and we cannot wait. Hopefully, sitting here in 365 days, we'll all look back and say OMG WHAT A FUN YEAR, THAT WAS THE BEST YEAR EVER, but before we get there, we have to wrap up this year, and what better way to do that/get all nostalgic than to look back at the top posts we published these past 12 months.
These are the stories you readers devoured (and commented on) the most. It's a grab bag of topics, from beauty to politics to house tours to trends…and a sprinkling of controversy.
#11: My Style Evolution, Where It's Going, and A Big Return to OG EHD
We originally only planned on doing the top 10 posts of 2018, but how could this post, which set the tone for what's to come here at EHD, not make it in when it was just a 100 page views away from claiming its seat at the popular table? We write our own rules around here, and no one said a “Top Posts of the Year” roundup couldn't include ELEVEN stories. This post was honestly months in the making. With two heavy renovation projects, the whole “style. play. every day.” aspect of this site (and me) kind of fell to the side, and I'm sure the team could see me twitching from withdrawals. In this post, I take a deeeeep dive into my old homes, my style and what's next for me. It's a good one, so if you missed it the first time around, don't make that mistake a second time.
#10: 7 Things I Learned After Instagramming a Photo of Obama & Losing 4K Followers
I really hemmed and hawed about whether to hit “publish” on this one, but some of the team campaigned hard for it because we knew it would cause chatter (and boy did it ever create chatter-it currently has just about 900 comments…you guys had A LOT to say here, as I knew you would). Writing about what was going on in my head before, during and after I randomly and really without too much thought posted a doctored photo of Barak Obama on Instagram one weekend night, only to have a major exodus of followers. If you've ever wanted to read my thoughts about feminism, where I stand on posting personal views on politics and, well, basically, what I learned from this whole thing, head here.
#9: A Romantic Glam Bedroom Makeover with Opalhouse by Target
It's so fun to do inventory at the end of the year of the posts that hit the most with the readers, because it's one of those moments where we get reminded of the posts we published AND LOVED. We post roughly 260 posts every year, so it's easy to be like “Oh yeaaahhh” when you see something make the list. This is one of those posts. Not to say that we forgot about this post at all (it actually had a sister post-I was tasked to showcase Target's new Opalhouse line this spring and because I couldn't pick just one way to use the product in a room, I did two rooms, duh), but I sort of forgot just how sweet and great this room was. That headboard almost broke the internet (and was almost instantly sold out on Target.com for weeks and weeks). You can't see it in this photo, but the Art Deco-y blush velvet swivel chair we used in the corner of this room was also just SO good. All around, just one of those rooms you can't stop staring at (so for good reason it made our Top 10).
#8: My Kitchen Design a Year Later: Lots to Love & Some Regrets
Another post that sparked controversy in the EHD reader universe, except this time, I didn't really anticipate it like I did in the Obama post. This post ran on Arlyn's first day as Editorial Director, so since I was busy onboarding her, I kind of got to ignore the fact (for a few hours, anyway) that everyone was VERY, VERY upset in the comments that I would even think to change anything in my kitchen that I wasn't happy with a year in. Words thrown around by you guys: “frivolous,” “ridiculous,” “wasteful.” What I thought would be a fun idea to dissect what I did in the initial reno and what, in retrospect (and after living with things), I think could work better in terms of style/design and functionality, well…you didn't necessarily agree.
#7: House Tour: Mel's New Place Makes Us Want to Declutter Immediately
EHD veteran Melanie Burstin's house tour was a year (give or take) in the making. Back in early 2017, she revealed her previous apartment in Silver Lake she shared with her boyfriend at the time, but since has moved into a smaller place for herself that she repurposed many of her pieces into. I personally think it was fun to see the same furnishings used in different floor plans (so did you guys). Mel had been making guest appearances on the blog this year since going off on her own with her Etsy shopping series, but it was really nice to hear from her and see her enviably minimalistic design eye at work again.
#6: The Living Room Rules You Need to Know
I don't want to say too much about this post beyond the fact that it was super helpful both for us to have all in one place and, clearly, based on traffic numbers, for you all, too. We walk you through all the “design rules” you need to know about to get a living room that feels “just right” and pulled together, from furniture placement to rugs to lighting (like, did you know sconces should be placed 5 to 6 feet on the wall from the floor?). Consider it our 10 Commandments for arranging your living room (well…22 commandments, but 10 felt more poetic for that tagline). Yes, all rules are made to be broken, but we all need to know the rules first to know how to break them.
#5: “I Design, You Decide”: Mountain Fixer Style
Our very first “I Design, You Decide” vote! While I miiiight regret ever coming up with this “genius marketing” idea for the mountain fixer (not because I didn't want your input, but because it was OUTRAGEOUSLY TIRESOME to design two fully pulled together schemes for every room of the house that both Brian and I loved equally…yeah, what was I thinking?), it's fun to look back at a time before I knew how much time/money/energy this whole series would take. BUT GUESS WHAT? The house is nearly done with the renovation phase, and like I said in this post, I do plan on continuing the polling process, but just at a smaller scale (sofa selection, instead of an entire living room plan, for instance). In this first post, I introduced the two styles we were considering (Refined Scandinavian Chalet-what I really wanted-and Brian's dream, Rustic Scandinavian Cabin. You guys picked…well, click over to find out (or get a refresher) and stay tuned for 2019 for all the reveals we're going to be rolling out once I get it all furnished and styled out (though I'm in no rush and plan to take my time here).
#4: House Tour: A Warm Scandi-Inspired Home
Before we got to Mel's home reveal in August, we tested the waters of showcasing other designers' work/homes with Samantha Gluck's beautiful house. Taking our #4 spot proves you guys were both into her work (which isn't surprising…she's an EHD veterans-she worked on the Cup of Jo and Oh Joy studio makeovers) and seeing house tours. Plus, the reading nook in her playroom also took a top placing in our Best of Instagram post from last week, so overall…lots of favorites here with Sam's home. We promise there are more to come in the new year, and we'll keep curating them as long as you guys keep reading them.
#3: Hair Update: The Team EHD Reveals
Honestly, we had NO IDEA this post would somehow skyrocket to top 3 for the year (with only a few weeks really to get all those page views). We made a heavy push to the intro of this post as well as the reveals on Instagram and you guys devoured it, but once our friends at Cup of Jo also shared the post, as well, that catapulted this to the winner's podium FAST. And while the comment section on this one was a bit action-packed (a lot of you professed that you were disappointed in some of the reveals, that they weren't drastic enough, that no one dared to shave their heads/go bleach blonde/whatever is worthy of being a worthy “transformation”), it was still so much fun for us to experience-and write about-a different kind of “makeover.”
#2: 2018 Design Trends for the Bathroom
Last week, we broke down all the individual trends we uncovered and contemplated this year in this post[LINK], but we purposefully left out our larger trend predictions (like this bathroom one)because we knew they had been our most popular posts of the entire year and didn't want to show our hand too early. Black fixtures, built-in ledges, monochrome everything, “wet rooms” where a freestanding tub and shower coexist in one space…all ideas that were fun to think about, some we actually incorporated into our designs for the mountain fixer and Portland project this year. Which were your favorite? Which made you go “yuck/hard pass”?
And FINALLY….OUR TOP POST OF THE YEAR IS…

#1: 2018 Design Trends: Kitchen
THIS ONE! We kind of gave it away in our #2 spot when talking about the sister post to this one (bathroom trends for 2018), but obviously, you guys were hungry for new, fresh, exciting ideas for the kitchen. We absolutely plan to do this one again in the new year, even though kitchen design doesn't turn over super fast, but there's always someone out there doing something fun and innovative that makes us go “OMG WE HAVE TO WRITE ABOUT THAT.” These first 12 design concepts we uncovered at the beginning of last year still feel pretty solid all these months later (though maybe things like terrazzo are still pretty niche), and we can't wait to see how many continue to play out in the mainstream and what else pops up to ogle and wax poetic on.
THAT'S IT! Thank you again SO MUCH for coming here every day (this year as well as the last eight) and reading what we have to say. Come back later this week to see what we've cooked up for 2019, a reader survey (pretty please tell us about yourselves and what you want to see more/less of this year) and lots of fun new content.
Happy New Year everyone. xx

“The Enchanted Oasis” – our official wedding film!
You guys…Sam and I are SOOOOOOOOO excited to invite you to The Enchanted Oasis. Watch our wedding film above and come relive the magic that happened in the desert on October 6th, 2018! Eeeeee!
I’ve been meaning to do a wedding recap for a LONG LONG time, but things got super crazy after the wedding. (I mean, we still haven’t gone on our honeymoon yet!) We are still getting used to calling each other “husband” and “wife” – but every time we do it, we can’t help but smile and say “Can you believe…!!??” 2 months into our marriage and over 10 years into our relationship you guys! I’m grateful that everything still feels super fresh!
Okay, ready for our wedding photo story? Let’s begin!
The morning began with me getting ready in the Master Suite at the Solomon Estate in Rancho Mirage, CA. I felt like a princess in a modern day castle! I mean, there’s a palm tree growing in the master bath for goodness sake! A PALM TREE. Oh there’s a jacuzzi, a sauna, and 2 toilets in there too. The bathroom alone is like the size of my ENTIRE first apartment x 3. Ha!
Here’s my sister Jackelyn and I taking a moment to Instagram Story our Tieks! I mean, gotta capture every moment! We’re using my Galia Lahav veil as a backdrop.
This is when I sat my mom, sister, and Sam’s mom down to give them personal cards, hand carved hangers, and robes to wear for the getting ready part of the day! Apparently I’m a really good writer because everyone is crying.
Jackelyn got these wooden hangers hand made from a vendor on Etsy! How cool right?
I love this shot. It’s me, mom and sis having a special moment before we put on our dresses.
Perspective. The train is REALLY long on my Galia Lahav dress, but you really don’t understand HOW long until you see it next to the other non-bridal dresses. There’s enough tulle for me to live in for the rest of my life.
These are my wedding shoes from Badgely Mischka! They have platform on them too, so they’re not THAT uncomfortable. There are rhinestones all around the shoe which made them SUPER glamorous (plus I love the rose gold sole which matches my ring), however, I did not know that rhinestones + tulle was going to be the worst idea ever for walking. The stones kept catching onto the inside tulle of my dress and made it nearly impossible to walk down the stairs and then down the aisle! It even ripped part of my dress. But oh well! Whatcha gonna do!?
The ceremony dress. This is the Ms. Elle from Galia Lahav, custom designed to have a deep v cut in the front as well as side cut outs.
It’s always so cool to see something go from concept to completion.
THAT TRAIN THO.
Didn’t think I was extra? Well now you know!
Meanwhile, Sam and Sir George played in their matching tuxedos!
Sam’s dad, his best man, Sam, and my dad getting ready for the big moment! Doesn’t everyone look so dapper?
Yes, Sir George sure thinks so, while posing all casual on top of a medieval leather bound book.
Here was the entry way with the welcome sign I wrote! If you get satisfaction from watching people write calligraphy, check out this video I hastily made just hours before we headed out to the venue!

PART 13: The Calligraphy.
My personal goal for 2018 was to learn how to do calligraphy! But, I did not anticipate doing it for our wedding! Last minute the person who I thought was going to do the calligraphy for us bailed out, so I had to up my game!
I watched countless YouTube videos, attended a live calligraphy tutorial, and practiced with all sorts of pens until I felt comfortable enough to take on all the signage for our wedding! I’m still in my learning phase and am trying to develop my own style. Though at times I get frustrated with my lack of experience, I’m truly enjoying the feeling of not being an expert – of knowing there’s a lot more potential!!! It’s humbling and beautiful.
(PS: The frames you see here I constructed to emulate the invitation. There’s real moss glued piece by piece onto the background – which took wayyyyyy longer and was wayyyyy messier than I thought!)
What hobby are you currently enjoying right now?

Did you notice that the frame matches the invitation!? DIY’d it all to make sure we would be ON THEME with “enchanted oasis”!
On the entry way table, we added a nice touch to honor our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. Golden frames with pictures! I took a chalk paint pen and wrote on top of the glass. If you plan on doing this, get a chalk paint pen that is permanent, or else it will rub off. This one from Amazon is the one I used and I highly recommend it.
My sister, the Maid of Honor. OMG she looked STUNNING in her Galia Lahav. She went for Old Hollywood Glam with her look and she served it!
Here’s my mom putting on my veil! I’m about to walk down the aisle!
Speaking of aisle, we had it lined with gorgeous blooms to give the ceremony a “secret garden” feel.
Most enchanted chuppah ever. All florals by Lovesome Blossoms.
The aisle.
This was honestly the highlight of the entire wedding I must say. The moment Sir George drove down the aisle.
Here’s Nola, our flower girl! And Sam’s niece.
When my dad walked me down the aisle!
The ceremony. We began with the lighting of the unity candle. Our love story was written by my sister. We also had a guided meditation that I wrote, which was requested by Sam. We also had family members chime in and give advice on marriage! It was a very unique ceremony that blended both the Vietnamese/Chinese and Jewish cultures!
“You may kiss the bride!”
Walking hand in hand for the first time as husband and wife!!! AHH!!!
Next, the guests were surprised with a carousel that we had built on site just for them! Each horse was brought in one by one BY HAND. Why? Cuz…#ENCHANTEDOASIS. DUH!
Makes for a great Instagram photo :)
FRIENDS LOOKING SO FINE.
The signature drinks.
We also had a matcha bar because Sam and I are matcha FANATICS! Custom blended drinks by Midora Matcha with golden straws to matcha our theme!
The seating chart that took me a FEW tries to get right. It was SO HARD to fit all the names on there.
My 2nd dress! A whimsical gown with custom drop sleeves from Galia Lahav. It’s the Lydia.
The reception tent – made up of thousands of twinkle lights!
Me and Sam doing the Horah! SO SCARY! Also our live band Christien Anthony KILLED IT. They learned how to sing Hebrew in 2 days. WHAT!??? And their music was ON POINT! They brought all the energy onto the dance floor!
Chair decor.
Table settings.
Each guest got their own hand pressed heart napkin. The heart napkin was a big deal during wedding planning. I wasn’t going to budge on this :P
The cake swing.
Mmmm. Berries.
CUTTING THE CAKE! You have no idea how much I’ve been waiting to eat my blue velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.
SO. GOOD. Also, look at the girls’ faces! Adorable!!!
More desserts! By Midori Matcha.
I hope you enjoyed the photos from our wedding! There’s like 3,000 more but these are my faves.
Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen!

ME, JIM JARMUSCH AND THE PIN HE GAVE ME (no one is going to read this, but I don’t give a shit)
SO… I don’t know in which way I shall start by telling this story … Are you even going to believe me??! Whatafack … Okay, I’ll just say it: JIM JARMUSCH JUST CAME TO ME, SEARCHED IN HIS POCKETS AND HANDED ME A PIN. YES. A PIN OF HIS NEW MOVIE ABOUT The Stooges, Gimme Danger!
LET’S START BY THE BEGGINING.There’s this portuguese film festival in Lisbon, called Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival. It’s a film festival which is cool because you can see old movies that aren’t easy to find in the big screen, see films premières by cool and unknown directors and you can also meet important actors, actresses, movie directors and other artists that come to present and promote their films, which are often premieres.
These guests are invited by portuguese producer Paulo Branco, who is a really well known fella here in the country and knows a loooot of important people in the business. Basically, his name is in every portuguese production that has the chance and quality to be known internacionally (a lot thanks to him). Anyway, he’s rude and an asshole sometimes (I went to see Monica Belluci and then watch “Malèna” and he just screamed across the room in front of her to one guy because his microphone wasn’t working, lol, who screams like that being next to Monica, b*** please).
ANYWAAAAY, this year, one of the most important guests was JIM JARMUSCH, yes, that’s right. I’m a big fan of him since I remember and without even knowing it. Since I’m little that I watch films of him with my brother, knowing later who was this great guy who did great films. Me and my friends were really excited about this and despite the advice of our fellow colleagues saying “Omg, don’t contribute to give Paulo Branco any money lol”, we were so excited we bought the tickets immediately. AND THERE WE WENT.
The 11th November, we arrived to the session “Gimme Danger”, of the LEFF’16, followed by a conversation with the director himself. The film, I must say, was really interesting. I’ve been listening to The Stooges the all week to better feel the vibrations of the documentary and I didn’t regret it. I felt he and his team made a good job.
Second part: JIM ARRIVES. He enters, everyone applaudes, then Paulo Branco comes and they sit and talk about the movie. Once they are done, Paulo Branco says “Okay, guys, any questions?”. I IMMEDIATELY put my hand in the air and a guy just came with a microphone.
*Breaths in* Quite nervous! *audience laughs, Jim looks at me through his dark glasses*. So, hm,.. like Iggy Pop asked that guy in the movie, about playing drums, and he answered him, ‘Play it like you mean it’, what would say to someone that wants to make movies? What would be, let’s say.. your advice? Thank you very much and I love your movies lol *audience laughs, Jim also laughs and I almost faint*
JIM: Well… Actually… I don’t know, lol, I still don’t know what I’m doing honestly lol *audience laaaughs* Hm… I’m not anywone to give advice really, but just try to focus on what you are doing, sometimes you will fail, but it is by failure that you learn.. Sometimes people look at my movies and they say ‘oh I love that’ and it was a mistake lol. So… First of all, you have to do things that you love, the rest doesn’t matter. You have to love what you do and not be afraid of failing or of what other people will say. *Producer interrups: YOU JUST DO IT*, Yes, you just do it, there was this friend of mine that used to say *immitates his voice* ‘You know Jim, maybe not that one looool but okay, JUST DO IT*.. You know? *Jim and producer just look at each other and say JUST DO IT* *back to me* I’m sorry, I’m not very good at giving advice, really so sorry… *
Me: *lol* *yes-you-are* *speechless*. Thank you *.* (inside of me there was a storm of joy and happiness and absurdity)
THEN, he answered some more questions until Paulo Branco just said ‘Okay that’s it, thank you very much bla bla bla’ and people started to get up and leaving their seats. UNTIL… and this is the big part (WHICH NO ONE FILMED *frustrated*):
HE JUST CAME NEXT TO ME (I was still sit in my seat) and guess what: he gave me a pin. He gave me a pin!! It didn’t say anything special, just ‘The Stooges, Gimme Danger’. It was what he had in his pockets. But still … IT WAS AWESOME TO ME! I did try to say ‘Wait!’ just to talk a bit more with him, but he quickly went away!!
My friends and I “chased him” and we got a picture with him.
Can you fucking believe this shit. It’s like that joke they say about Bill Murray: he goes into a restaurante, he picks a french fry from your plate, then he looks at you and says “No one’s gonna believe you” and he leaves!!!
One of the coolest and weirdest days of my life. Never gonna forget, though… For a moment, it was like I was stuck in was of his movies. BUT IT FELT JUST RIGHT !!

Lisa Berry talks 'Supernatural,' Death and 'Wayward Sisters"
I was fascinated with Lisa Berry’s character when she first appeared on Supernatural as Billie the Reaper, and chatted with her shortly after her second episode aired. So needless to say, I was thrilled to see Lisa return to Supernatural as Billie in the finale of Season 12 (to be killed by Castiel) and then again in Season 13 – this time as Death herself. We had a chance to chat after her appearance in Episode 13.05, the aptly named Advanced Thanatology. Billie had a pivotal confrontation with Dean Winchester, which was one of my favorite scenes in the episode, so I couldn’t wait to ask her about that and more! Lynn: This last episode that you were in, that scene between Billie and Dean was so pivotal to that episode… it was amazing. What made it so pivotal is that Billie was in a sense the audience’s point of view – through her eyes, we realized how much Dean had changed. How hopeless and despondent he had become. Going into it, how much if anything did you know about what Dean’s mindset was at the time, because you really played that realization so well? Lisa: Oh thank you so much, I appreciate that. As a fan of the show, I appreciate that you appreciated it! (laughing) Lynn: I did! Lisa: I didn’t get much background, I kind of was just assuming a lot of things. So when I got the script, I had to fill a whole bunch of things in. But the way that Steve [Yockey] wrote it, it made it easy enough to see that this is the path to where Dean is probably at, this is what he’s probably doing. A lot of clues were given in the script. So I think that was a really big help, but I didn’t get to read the first four scripts beforehand so I was kind of just like an audience member left with the Season 12 finale. Lynn: That’s what I thought, especially because it was so early in the season. I often wonder how you as a guest actor are able to so seamlessly put yourself there, in the moment. Obviously, the writers are following along with the story, but it seemed like you were able to put yourself right there where the viewer was and Billie just sort of jumped in to explicate our point of view. Lisa: I really appreciate that, because you know I’m a huge fan of the show myself. Lynn: (grinning) I know, and I love that. Lisa: I had the history and the background [of the show] and so in my interpretation of the character I’ve always put myself as right next to Death, his number one, even if you couldn’t see me. So I endowed my character with a lot of knowledge and background and history and being there for all of those touching Dean moments, because I have it in me. I’ve seen the series like a couple of times over. Not just the show, but the whooooole series, and there’s so many of them! I have really dedicated a lot of my TV watching time to Supernatural…. Lynn: (laughing, because err…me too) Lisa: I have! And a lot of times, I’ll just go back to one of my favorite seasons which is like when Death was introduced, which was so mind-blowing for me. And I’ll have it in the background while I’m working. I’ll have it on, and then I’ll just get caught up in a moment, and then you find yourself just watching it again – and I’m like, you’ve seen this, like seven times! Lynn: I totally love you. Lisa: You know? Lynn: I totally do. I do that too. Like, a lot. Lisa: (laughing) OK then I don’t feel so crazy because it’s a comforting show to have on in the background when you’re doing something. And then when I got the call that I was gonna be back, and I got the script, I immediately messaged Steve and said OMG this is so amazing and I’m so grateful that you trust me with this role. And they gave me lots of time with the script. I was also working at the Shaw Festival at the same time, so I was doing two plays in rep. Lynn: Oh wow, that’s a lot. Lisa: And then on my long weekend on Labor Day, I had to go and film the episode, and they somehow made it work. They were like; this is a big scene, are you sure she can do it in one day? And I was like; I can handle it, you’ve given me plenty of time to learn my lines and really digest the character. So I just went and basically had fun on the day. All the work was done, and then Jensen is like an amazing actor and scene partner, it’s just like, “Annnnnnd scene.” Lynn: It’s funny when you say that, it didn’t occur to me that it might have been filmed in one day because it was such a big and complicated scene. But I’ve talked to other guest actors on the show who have said – I remember Curtis Armstrong telling me that when he did that really long dialogue scene with Rob… Lisa: Oh yeah… Lynn: That they wanted to do it as much as possible all in one day, just get in it and do it and he felt like that was part of why it came off as so powerful. I wonder if that’s part of why that scene with you and Jensen came off as so powerful too. The energy just crackled between the two of you. Lisa: Oh yeah, and our director [John Showalter] was so great – at the time I was very much in the theater world, so all you do is you show up and you do a play. You know all of your lines, and you just go for it. There’s no cut, try that again. And [on this episode] everybody was kinda just like ohhh he wants to kinda film it just like one shot, like continuously going and not breaking it up. In TV a lot of times you only have to know so much of your dialogue, and then you cut and then you can take it from there and space it out. But a scene like that, I was definitely an advocate for no, let’s just do it as one scene. Lynn: And it so worked. It’s interesting too because Jensen has said that one of the things that frustrates him sometimes – and they’ve sorta gotten away from it in Supernatural because they’ve been doing this so long – but it’s doing those very fragmented repeated takes kind of thing. He and Jared sorta joke about it like when they do it too many times, it’s like ‘I’m running on repeats’. Like you won’t get the best stuff. Lisa: Yeah and really, if you show up and you’re prepared, the set is completely open arms for you. I mean that as much for Supernatural as for any set. When an actor shows up and is prepared, then they can have fun. When an actor is not prepared, then it can become a really long day. Lynn: (laughing) Lisa: But it’s such a fun role, and it’s just gotten better and better every time I’ve gotten a script. I’m just so humbled – you know the show, there are about a million gazillion people they could bring back and story lines they could weave in and could be a part of their consideration – it always just makes me a little teary eyed to be brought back, like really? Lynn: You’re right, but it’s interesting, some fans long ago thought maybe Billie will be the next Death. And Julian Richings, a few years ago, said that he’d like to see you play Death if it isn’t him – and he said he loves you too, by the way. So maybe it was in the collective consciousness of the show. Lisa: I was just like, I hope the fans don’t hate me, because I love Julian too! So I was just like, I really want to play the role with as much dignity and honor as I possibly can, because it’s like picking up a baton, you know? Lynn: Was that intimidating? We’ve talked before about Billie’s epic entrances. And this one was too – I think I said something in my review like the character is both beautiful and intimidating. That long coat and the ring and just the way she has about her. Was it intimidating to step into that role? Lisa: Awww, thank you. Absolutely, absolutely, because it’s such an iconic role. Whether you play it on television or film, or whatever. I went to see Thor Ragnarok and I thought OMG she plays the goddess of death – as do I. It’s like a role that I don’t know any woman who wouldn’t be like, YES PLEASE. Lynn: Oh yeah Lisa: And to sink your teeth into it…I was nervous obviously, I’m not gonna lie about that, but that’s the beauty of playing a role like that. I know when I’m in Billie, because Billie doesn’t have any nerves. She doesn’t get afraid and she doesn’t feel judged and she doesn’t worry about those things. And Lisa does. So it’s very easy to tell when I’m in the character and when I’m not. It’s a wonderful opportunity just as a human being to stand your ground and be confident and bold and to live in that energy. You don’t get to live in that energy that often, or stay in it that long, because something comes around to be like uh you’re actually human and you can be hurt, scarred, bruised, cut. Lynn: Alas, you have to go back to that. Alaina Huffman and Ruth Connell have said that too, that stepping into the shoes of their (powerful female) character who really doesn’t give a damn in the way most of us do is kinda therapeutic Lisa: Oh my gosh, yes. And especially with the role that I was playing on stage, it was so nice to straighten my spine and get to say how I feel and have an opinion and move through the world with confidence. Because when you’re playing a slave girl in 1833, you don’t get to do that. Lynn: I guess not, what a contrast! Lisa: It was, oh yeah. This past year I went from playing the handmaiden to the queen to a slave trying to make it through the day to Billie. It’s been all in a week, and that was kinda cool. Lynn: This is why I’m a psychologist and not an actor – I think that would mess with my head! Lisa: (laughing) Lynn: I don’t think I could do that Lisa: Oh man, tools. As a psychologist you absolutely know that people have their tools and I just always try to be the sanest actor I know. We do have a reputation for being crazy. So I do try and go in and out as gracefully as I can from roles and still be a functioning human being in the rest of the world. Lynn: It’s interesting, I know that’s the stereotype. But I know so many actors now from doing this research and writing these books for so long, and they’re some of the least crazy people. High strung maybe, and emotional – very empathic often – but not crazy. Lisa: Yes, yes. Lynn: So if you put yourself in your head canon for Billie right now, where is she in terms of the Winchesters? She said that her perspective has shifted, so how does she view them now? Is it a little grudging admiration, or is it why do I have to keep these guys around? Lisa: I think, and this is with having zero information, I think she has a soft spot for them now, now that she can see the big picture, you know? Lynn: Mmm hmm Lisa: It’s like when you’re mad at somebody and then you find out they go home to a cardboard box and they actually don’t have a home and their puppy died, and it’s that whole bigger picture. And you realize, I was really hard on you, looking through my little telescope, but now I have the bigger picture and wow, it really costs you guys to do this. And what you’re doing is for a much greater good. I don’t know any human who has ever made that sort of sacrifice. So I think she’s begrudging because she’s just hated them for so long and she’s had this sort of thorn in her side with them. And now it’s like she has to take it out and feel that weight. Lynn: That makes sense, that’s what I would guess too. I think you played the opening of that in the last few lines she had. And talk about iconic, Steve Yockey gave you a call back to one of the most iconic lines in the show – when Billie said ‘you’ve got work to do’ it was a call back to ‘we’ve got work to do.’ How did that feel, to deliver such an iconic line? Lisa: The whole scene hit me, like every word, hit me as important. I really did my absolute best to mine the script as best as I could and just try to find and turn over every stone and understand what is going through her mind and where she’s coming from and what she wants and needs. I asked why to every single thing that she said. Because as human beings, we always know why we’re doing what we’re doing, very specifically. Even when we’re telling a story about people needing to mind their own business, it’s like you have someone in mind. Lynn: Totally, you’re so right Lisa: You’re not just randomly saying that, you know? So I really wanted her to be able to think in and around the words and they all really struck me as this whole scene is very iconic. It made me think of when we first met Death, in the slow motion and the car and everything. This is a new spin and a different play to it, but lines like that – and hearing you say it now makes me hear it even more than I even heard it then, which is kinda cool. I really thought that about a lot of the scene, even the ‘we need to talk’. Lynn: Oh yeah Lisa: Like wow, you’re just given me one like everyone-wants-to-speak-like-that kinda line. Lynn: True. Lisa: I remember doing a guest spot on Lost Girl and my superpower was I could ignite fire from my hands. Lynn: Cool Lisa: And I was ready to burn a building down with my hands and in the end they’re like cut, no, we’re scrapping it, and I have to be like ‘I hate getting all hot and bothered for nothin’ Lynn: (laughing) Great line! Lisa: What actor doesn’t want to have to say that line? So as an actor and an artist, you’re grateful when you get to say the cool lines and do the echoes of the episodes that came before. Because it’s been well over a decade, so to be able to bring that back – and I also think it kinda represents where the show is at right now, kinda like when I read the script I was like – okay and now I’m talking as a fan here – when I read the script I was like whoa they really could keep opening up one dimension after another, and this show really could go on forever! Lynn: That’s what it feels like. Lisa: Yeah, I mean it evolved from being a show about monsters and then it got very biblical and now we’re talking about worlds and galaxies and I was like whoa, okay. Okay! Lynn: I know, right? So much potential. Lisa: Exactly. And it was also very exciting to be part of opening up a new avenue, a new portal. That was cool; I was like wow. Lynn: I’m assuming that you watched the episode when it aired. The other thing that worked so well, I think, is what Jensen did in that scene. It’s something that Julian Richings has talked about in his scenes with Jensen, that what worked so well to invest Death with awe and fear is that Jensen played all that in Dean, through Dean’s perspective, so Julian didn’t have to. And he did that in this scene too, with you. The way he was looking up at Death, looking like a little kid, like absolutely in awe of her. Lisa: Totally. Totally. He, like I said, he’s one of my favorite actors to work with. He makes you better, I think, he’s that kind of actor. Lynn: You both played off each other masterfully. And it was an important scene too because we learned a lot about the main character. Any scene in which we learn a lot about the mental state, and the emotional state, of one of the main characters, it becomes so important. Lisa: Mm hmm. Thank you. And personally, I’m just a fan of Dean monologues, so I’m always game for that. Lynn: (grinning) Me too. I remember when we chatted before, you said that the first time you were on the show you were nervous, because you were a fan of the show. How is it now, after multiple guest appearances? Is it more relaxed? Lisa: You know, I’m like a hair – and I mean that literally, like a cat hair – more relaxed (laughing) But because I shoot these episodes with a lot of time in between shootings and I’m there for a day or two, so all in all I’m probably there for like eight days over three years (laughing) so the nerves haven’t had a chance to completely subside. First, I get a script and I’m like I can’t believe they’re bringing me back! Lynn: Right! Lisa: I always look at it like what a wonderful way to go out, that’s how I am – any time I’m a recurring character on any show, the last episode I shoot I’m always like, that’s a great way to go out! And if I come back again, that’s great. [caption id="attachment_51949" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Source: Lisa Berry[/caption] Lynn: That’s a great attitude to have, especially on Supernatural! And then if you come back, it’s a lovely surprise. Lisa: It’s always a lovely surprise. That’s the beauty of it. And this was definitely one of those episodes where I was like oh THAT is the way to go out! Lynn: You’ve had epic entrances and exits, come to think of it. And you’re still there. Only on Supernatural! Lisa: (laughing) Only on Supernatural, it’s so true. God bless that show. So I do feel more at ease as an actor because I’ve been lucky enough that I’ve continued to work on my own projects, so I feel more prepared as an actor, having learned and grown as an actor. I feel like I’m able to bring something new when I come back, so I feel more confident as an artist. But fangirling out, feeling like a nerd? That hasn’t subsided. Lynn: I think I like that about you, Lisa – don’t let that change! Lisa: (laughing) I’m still like, can I get a picture with you, Jensen? Lynn: Hey, some things you never get used to. When I’m talking on the phone with them I’m fine, but then when it’s in person, I’m distracted all over again. Lisa: I know, seriously. And they’re just such loving people, that’s also what makes the gush happen. It’s like well you can’t be super nice, because now I’m gushing even more! Lynn: (laughing) That’s right, it doesn’t help. If they were only standoffish… Lisa: (also laughing) Totally. Lynn: I know you did some viewing parties with some of the other guest actors, and I know they all think very highly of you. How has it been to get to know some of the other SPNFamily? Lisa: When I was living in LA for a while I spent a lot of time with Alaina and Ruth especially, and they have really taken me under their wing. It’s crazy. And Briana and I knew each other from back in the day, and Kim has just been so kind, and Sam is literally like just such a nice person. One day when I had off, she was like hey, you wanna hang out today? And I was like, you wanna hang out with ME? Lynn: Awww. Lisa: I was like um yeah sure! And I find that to be really heartwarming and it makes me really grateful to be a part of something that’s more than just a show. Lynn: Oh yes, it is more. Lisa: And getting to do a calendar with them was wonderful [for Stands], and even though I haven’t met everyone in person, we know each other on social media and via email and text, because we’ve got a little group thread that’s ongoing. Lynn: Everyone seems to value that so much Lisa: Sometimes people will just chime in with a great quote or something or just send somebody some love. And I find that to be really cool. I lost a friend this year to mental illness… Lynn: I’m so sorry Lisa: And I put it out there like hey I lost somebody today. To be welcomed back like I was, because we don’t see each other a lot, I haven’t done the conventions like many of them have, so we don’t talk on that level, but I just wanted to still keep them included in my life and what’s going on and they are just super kind people. Lynn: They really are. It’s a unique bunch of women. And speaking of the kickass women of Supernatural, I wanted to ask you – Kim, Briana, Ruth and Rachel all wrote chapters in my book that’s out now, Family Don’t End With Blood… Lisa: Which I have! I bought it. I’m about to start reading it when I head back to Chicago. It will be the first thing I read in 2018. Lynn: Oh, awesome! You have to tell me what you think when you read it. Everyone – both the actors who wrote chapters and the fans who did - really did an amazing job writing very personal chapters. My next book is focused on the women of Supernatural, and I wonder if you might want to write a chapter. Lisa: OMG I would be honored to do one, are you serious? Lynn: I am, it’s right here on my list of questions. Lisa: Oh my god, thank you so much. Oh my goodness, you don’t wanna know – literally when I picked up your book I was like, this is so cool. Lynn: The actors who wrote chapters had some really important things to say, and I think what they wrote has made a difference. That’s what we wanted to do. Okay, last two questions. Why have we not seen you at conventions? Lisa: I don’t know! Lynn: Fans would love to have you at cons. Lisa: I would love to be at conventions. To be honest, I’ve always tried to be the person who says well if it was meant to be, it’s meant to be. Everything is trying to find its way to you and you’re trying to find your way to it. I did get to do a convention in the UK and it was such a wonderful experience. But I only want to be there if people want to hang out and have a good time, I’m not really a push my way through the door person, so if nobody invited me, I just kinda move on and go with the flow. Lynn: I think people would love having you there. And you’re back as Death, so it’s a no-brainer now! Lisa: Aww, thank you.
