#also imo language classes go about teaching ''gender'' extremely unhelpfully and i think a lot of people would be a lot less confused

people will say things like "don't study cinematography cause it will ruin movies for you" which i wholeheartedly disagree with, it just adds another fun layer for analysis imo, but i can say if you major in language studies and/or linguistics it will make every language post you see on the internet that much more annoying cause people just Say Things with all the confidence of someone who does not know what they're talking about even a little bit lol
#like i've seen people saying we need to remove classifications from language entirely#which like i get where you're coming from but i'm not sure you understand what words are?#and the maps.... god#don't even get me fucking STARTED on the wine-dark sea#fucking hell#nadia rambles#also imo language classes go about teaching ''gender'' extremely unhelpfully and i think a lot of people would be a lot less confused#by languages which have grammatical gender classifications if it were taught as essentially#it's not that the chair is female it is that a chair and a woman happen to be in the same grammar group#which we have for convenience labeled ''feminine'' but which may well just be called ''Class A'' or ''Group 1'' or whatever#i think that it could potentially help people's understanding of grammar and language classes better if they were explained in this way#to be clear i'm not saying that cla#why must hashtag be on a letter on gboard ...#not saying it never happens that a word is indeed considered gendered as a member of a grammatical class that includes women#just that on a broader scope that's generally not what grammatical gender technically is#but there are def cases where grammatical gender totally is aligned with perceived social gender as well#as always the only universal in language is that nothing (NOTHING) is universal lol#not even the act of being spoken with sounds (see sign language) or being written (there are tons of unwritten languages)
