The spinoffs are explicit NA novels. ACOSF quite literally was filled with explicit scenes, Nessian agreed to a physical relationship only for most of the book. No one batted an eye. No one said nessian isn’t endgame bcs Cass only lusts for Nesta. Yet god absolutely forgive Azriel for having explicit thoughts on the woman he’s literally interested in and said woman - just like Nesta - WANTED HIM BACK. If it wasn’t mutual - if Elain didn’t want to kiss Az back, then it’s a different matter. But she wanted him without hesitation.

I think elriels hatred from the bonus comes down to a matter of things:

. Whether they acknowledge it or not - some antis see Elain more “childish” & “pure” compared to other characters due to her being more feminine. To see Azriel have such thoughts towards her, made them uncomfortable bcs they don’t see Elain as an adult but a child. In other words they infantilise her - which is why they complained about the bonus.

. Instead of taking elriels bonus as part of the development of elriels’ relationship in previous books, they view it as a standalone event. They see it as the only “major” elriel interaction- so for those antis, they wanted to see Azriel show and tell us readers how much he cares & loves elain him staying away from her and buying her a beautiful necklace which symbolises her personality isnt enough Its like everything he’s done for elain previously doesn’t matter. Him giving her TT doesn’t matter, him spending his solstice night listening to her talk doesn’t matter. None of it does bcs they’re only focusing on his bonus. They’re only focusing on Azriel’s thoughts that particular night/time - Oh Az didnt confess his undying love for her right then and there? Clearly he doesn’t care about her. Thats their way of thinking - which is limited and takes a lot of things out of context

The last factor ill share for now, Antis hold Elriel to a different standard then every other ship. Elriel have always been hated, more then every other couple bcs some say Azriel deserves better and the other half want Lucien to be relevant & happy. When you have to accept the reality of something you hate - naturally you’ll hold it to a higher standard then the norm. You’ll nitpick at every single thing bcs you dont like it and want to find faults to justify this dislike. Thats what happened with elriel especially when its compared to ships like Gwynriel and Elucien - who are “perfect” in comparison (bcs they’re not developed in the least therefore easy to mold them to your preference) and make up for everything elriel lacks.

Elriel have so many parallels to other couples - you’ve mentioned some above. Sjm has a clear pattern for acotar- elriel fit this pattern in every way, shape and form. But when you dig deeper into elucien and gwynriel they don’t fit this pattern & parallels.

I was 14 when it first read these books. At that ripe age, elriel were blaringly obvious to me. I kid you not when I learnt of these ship wars I was genuinely flabbergasted at how people where actually doubting elriel. I didn’t have a degree in anything bcs its not needed. These are basic books with basic cliche tropes and plot. Everything is right there for you to pierce together.

I love Lucien - Im interested in his story. Gwyn didn’t stick out to me. - She was just a typical fantasy side character. I loved the companionship she gave Nesta but even in SF i was invested in elain. Noting everytime she came on page, paying extra attention when her name was mentioned etc. i also love emerie - she definitely deserves more love and recognition as well as her own story of reforming Illyria.

Hello I can't resist the obnoxious urge to blabber about my feelings so long analysis under the cut!? JHSDHJKJS

Okay, so. Indeed, while I understand that the game couldn't keep them blood-related for censorship reasons and such, I do think it killed the impact of them getting together a good bit.

My suspension of disbelief kind of tanked when Kirino asked Kyousuke to be her boyfriend right after he poured his heart out, expressing his insecurities that something might change between them. The game really does treat it like it's not only a non-issue but also a logical step to take, now, and I honestly have the capacity to ignore that for what I'm here for (them interacting, period), but it was definitely jarring.

I will say though, I did like that this began because they sat down to have a genuine talk about it. That felt much more organic and in-character than the nonsense we got in season 2, with the screaming in public and whatnot. And it did a lot more to stress the lengths they've changed since the beginning of the series, letting them sit down and confess to each other nervously. Well, I'd have liked if it were significantly more nervous, personally.

The thing about their relationship is it is inherently fucked up, like. It is at the center of all of their problems. Kirino has a crippling obsession with "imouto eroge" and this stemmed from the fact that, from a VERY young age, she believed herself to be a freak who had improper and disgusting feelings for her older brother, and eroge was something she latched onto as an escape from that reality. Sure, it did end up just being plain her favorite thing, but it came from that place.

I think if there's one thing I'd credit the anime for, it's that she didn't admit to her feelings ever, not until the very end when it was absolutely undeniable that they were reciprocated. She was repressed for so long I truly don't believe there'd be a reality where she'd say it first. Kyousuke has his own daddy issues, but there's something to be said regardless of a guy who is otherwise pretty normal, but finds himself falling in love with his little sister, however estranged. He's pretty fucked up, himself. Although I wish he hadn't screamed it in the center of the street at the top of his lungs in the most soulless loss for his character ever, I think the only way for them to actually move forward in a relationship would be for him to come to terms with it and say something first, however long a process that may or may not be.

I love the scenario the game poses where their relationship starts to take a "maybe I'll invite her out, just the two of us" turn, and she actually agrees instead of being flat out disgusted and disparaging. Sure, the beach was a little random and the game could have picked a better excuse than "idk why im inviting her to the beach it's almost like i got her route in a video game", but like. Idk, I like it when they interact, it feels natural for the most part. The game feels really good when you scoop out those little moments of "we're not siblings actually we're just a boy and a girl and it's natural".

Even just this scene post-confession, if I were to pretend that part had happened a different way, the banter over how they're gonna continue as a couple is pretty cute and in character.

I'm rambling about all of this not like to bitch I just have so many feelings and things I like and don't like and there are parts that I'd mix and match between anime canon and game canon and things... it's kind of fun. All in all I'd say this feels like an extremely well-written (and well-voiced) fanfiction. I'd accept these things in a fanfiction and move on, just as I'm gonna do for the game, but since it's official I get to be a freak on the internet and write paragraphs about it jhfhjsg

I am ultimately of the opinion that them being blood-related is the better story, it says more about their flaws and their personalities, and tbh I'm a sucker for characters who shouldn't be in love falling in love. Especially when they're as lovingly crafted as the characters in oreimo are. This series really is something special, I think, and it's kind of impossible to describe that to someone who hasn't seen it and just knows it for its reputation as "the anime where the brother and sister get married and kiss on the mouth at the end", which I guess is all anyone was gonna get from season 2

I rambled so long that I don't even have time to continue playing past their confession!! Now I have to go to sleep, but continue I shall soon, because... I love them...

light liking The Main Character by Will Wood is very in tune for him. im using the previous Will Wood ask to talk about him myself. overall, i almost prefer the albums he released under the tapeworms name.

im a newer fan for sure (thanks internet friends) but have quickly familiarized myself with his discography. the first song i listened to was Dr Sunshine is Dead. very akin to Noel's Lament from the musical Ride the Cyclone. am absolutely a sucker for theatrics and overdramatics so it was right up my alley.

my initial aversion to listening to Will Wood actually came from I/Me/Myself being a popular tiktok audio. in case i haven't voiced it here, i despise tiktok. it festers negativity. one might argue it is good for spreading activism movements but it is so overrun by misinformation that it loses this purpose. i base this on my personal experience on the app during 2020-2021. i deleted it after that. have only redownloaded it a few times after that to hunt down my old account and cringe at myself. (yes its still public, no you are not getting the @, if u try hard enough, u can find it). all of that to say, i don't like tiktok. thus when songs become popular on there, i used to actively avoid them. it still irritates me sometimes to play songs in the car that are fairly obscure and my friends will sing one random part and I will be like "oh you know (whatever band)?" and they reply "no i know it from tiktok". it has changed how the music scene operates as a whole. there are less localized music scenes and more short form content hoping to get a few lines that make it big on the socials. it makes me sad as a musician and as an artist in this era of over-digitized spread of music. but on the flip side, it does allow musicians to distribute so much easier to a much more vast audience. but there is less close connection with it. i have read books about the music scene of the early 2000s and it is an era we will unfortunately never repeat with the state of the internet.

your thoughts are certainly intriguing though. i see where you're coming from with the whole "festering negativity" bit. it's very... brainrot-y, and it's clearly had a large effect on the overall population. however, i will say that i think all social media platforms do this, and you simply have to learn to control your social media experience to use it in a beneficial way. though it is unfortunate that oftentimes people have to learn that the hard way.

i also very much agree that it's had a heavy effect on the music industry.. it's a bit sad to see, and i don't even consider myself a musician. the only reason i ever liked indulging with music scenes was because i liked observing the community. i've stopped doing it as much as of recent, mainly because it feels like there's less of a community to observe anymore. that can go for a lot of things, actually. everything just feels.. a little less authentic. it's disappointing. i try not to think about it.

despite all that, i don't think it's a crime to enjoy a popular song. simply enjoy the song because of its contents. said song being popular just means it gave you the opportunity to come across it. and who knows, maybe it can give you the opportunity to teach those tiktok friends who only know a section of the song how to appreciate it to its full extent. it doesn't have to be all bad.

i mean... i'll admit, i've taken a liking to taylor swift just today. not sure how i feel about it, but eh.. i couldn't care less. "Picture To Burn" is a fun song. i can't deny it.

Ooh. I do agree with your point that social media fosters negativity. There've been several really good books written on the subject, actually---social media radicalizes people who mightn't have access to reliable information (I think it's mentioned in How to Stand Up to A Dictator and Misbelief) and also makes people feel self-conscious about themselves, thinking that they have to be slimmer or taller or shorter or better-looking and the list goes on (I'm starting a book about it called Perfect, which mainly focuses on body image issues caused by social media in young girls/women).

However, social media also does have benefits, but like everything, only when it's used appropriately and in moderation. It allows employers to connect with employees and for information to get around the world much faster.

But then again, like you said, Tiktok encourages shorter attention spans in those who frequently use it. People only know part of a song because of Tiktok, not because they truly appreciate it in its entirety. This also encourages musicians to create shorter and shorter songs, which isn't exactly where the music industry should be going towards. However, this also has its benefits, like allowing small indie artists to share their work with a global audience and gain more following, so...

I suppose, at the end of the day, it all comes down to your personal preference. Everything is a double-edged sword, and the most important thing is how you choose to use it.

That being said, I guess don't let Tiktok affect you into avoiding popular songs. My view is, songs can be popular on Tiktok, but if you enjoy them, it isn't worth it to avoid them just because of that. I get what you mean, but that's my opinion.

So to give to a little context first. I have a friend whom I met from my old online school. We have a enemies dynamic. We've each other for 2 years now. When we first met I was the one who talked the most, which he used to see as "annoying". Ever since I left the online school and became busy with my new irl school, I started messaging him less and when I do, he acts more and more nicer and chill than before. I'm always questioning my sexuality so I'm always joking around that I'm gay and I think that's the reason why he hasn't been straight forward.

He started his own irl school last week and a girl kept looking back and forth at him and when he was about to go home she stopped him saying he could always ask her for help about studies and the school.

And again with a different girl but this time is his deskmate. Apparently every single girl he has met had asked him if he has a gf to which he responded with "not ur business" and I already knew something wasn't right at this point because I have seen his face before and he is mid. I like to half jokingly call this kind of behavior 'internet sickness', since as you also noted you can find this kind of behavior all over the internet. people see an entire universe full of people that seemingly get the attention they don't, but humans are fueled with attention, so sometimes you see someone do literally anything for that tiny tad of attention, even if they don't mean it. this may sound familiar from the way I word my posts sometimes, because as I made clear as day, I'm not better than that sometimes.

Admittedly, I also suppose not all of the angry asks and comments would have been so hostile if tumblr would show late reposts with their comments on an original post more clearly, which isn't so easy. Context: i went on a camping trip a month agoish, it was great, would do again. ~However~ when i went on the annual nature hike walk Thing. i happened to ya know, over work my very poor body. Especially my legs, seeing as how my right (& left) knee likes to just Ya Know, be in various amounts of pain randomly when it decides I've 'overworked' it again.

Unfortunately for my mental health my brain Needs to daydream in order to Process Shit™️ subconsciously. Now, this wouldn't be such a big deal if i could do that while reading, playing a video game or some other activity. Sadly only stuff i can do on auto pilot counts for Day Dreaming Time which for me personally includes the following: walking/pacing, swinging on a swing set/similar playground equipment on and eating. (sometimes) Theoretically i could do so while sitting still but uhm, i kinda need something more engaging then That

Which again leaves us to my Knee Problem, seeing as my preferred method out of all of these is swinging/waling around without feeling like a tiger in a Fuckin cage. (sorry but im feeling extremely frustrated by this) Seeing as it's been a month tho my leg is (mostly) fine. Which means I'm able to walk to the nearby park & swing away until my body physically tells me to get the fuck off.

Again not that bad, UNFORTUNATELY seeing as I'm fairly young with zero self defense training aside from the instinct to kick a bitch like a donkey I'm not allowed to walk around after dark, (extremely reasonable i agree completely) but i happened to reach my brain's internal storage of shit until it feels like it needs to take a step back & process... which it can't do until i walk. which I can't do because it is Night Time and even Then my knee is fuckin complaining. This means I'm very very frustrated & more than a little mad. Seeing as how my brain is sending "Go Touch Grass" while body is going "madam we woke up at 6 pm after sleeping at 9 sthm am and it's 4 am go the Fuck to sleep, also I'm sick of you're shit."

from what i've seen it's a potent mixture of teenagers being stupid as fuck and also social media actively encouraging less and less privacy online so they can sell your information for money.

let's look at the boring mainstream stuff first. not vents, not fandoms, like. tiktok dance video type shit.

tiktok is already a HUGE invasion of privacy mostly because it tracks basically everything in your phone what you like and what you scroll past to keep you scrolling and scrolling for hours on end. since videos are the most... idk common thing on tiktok, minors usually end up showing their face for videos, and their voice as well.

and also, since tiktok is a social media app, there's a lot of hate, that's very very easy to be spread, especially because it's so so simple to push that comment button and be an asshole. and since you can respond to comments with videos, and also since teenagers are stupid idiots with a fuck ton of emotions and an underdeveloped prefrontal cortex, they make a lot of bad decisions. like. say. "well actually im depressed with 5 mental disorders so" and "actually m aunt is this and that here's proof" ecetera ecetera. as you can see. horrible combination.

and that's just tiktok. im pretty sure snapchat tracks your location so people can know where you're at, on many social media apps people can see who you follow, what you like, bad decisions you've made. there is a huge lack of privacy overall. sharing personal information is more commonplace than ever. sharing your name and your location is being taken less and less seriously because social media websites want more money and data and discourage any form of personal privacy.

also. attention. stimulation. the dopamine. getting likes on a photo of yourself in a cute skirt and random guys calling you a ten outta ten, because you don't register that this random guy is a 30 year old man or maybe you just dont care because. underdeveloped prefrontal cortex. a lot of teenagers are lonely and feel misunderstood, and simply don't have enough (or don't feel like they have enough people who support them), so they turn to social media for the attention they so desperately need. whether or not the attention is good doesn't usually matter to them.

Oh and also the way they teach internet privacy is bogus because they mostly show the worst case scenario like meeting a crazy guy online irl who you thought was good and he kills you and since teenagers are stupid they don't register that something like that could happen to them. also idk if it's just me but most teenagers don't take internet safety seriously at ALL. it's like. insane how little they care. (i also believe that social media itself is why they don't care but that's a whole other thing).

okay moving onto venting. so. um. a lot of teens don't have anyone else to talk to. that's the main thing. im not gonna say it's smart but like. for a lot of kids venting online is all they have. like. maybe their parents are abusive and they don't have a therapist or maybe if they talk to someone irl it could go wrong but. like. yeagh. once again it's a stupid decision to make but. like i keep saying. bad decision makers.

and more on the vents a lot of people tend to give them supportive messages and stuff, offering a shoulder to lean on, someone to talk to, and for someone who usually feels really alone and misunderstood? yeah it makes sense to teenager who doesn't understand the full scope of reprecussions for their actions.

OH RIGHT DISCORD EXISTS. yeah that's teenagers being stupid again and they should Not be doing that. on a public server. that will make everyone uncomfortable. nonono bad traumadumping is no bueno.

also another thing i think makes it worse is that adults on the internet want nothing to do with teenagers, which is totally fine! it makes sense that you wouldn't wanna be responsible for all of that, and there could be a loooott of backlash on you if they do somwething stupid. however. you put two bad decision makers (teenagers) in a room with no mediator and what do you think happens. bad decisions.

once again it makes total sense why adults wouldn't want that, i won't try and bring someone down for curating their own space that's just unfair. however i will say that when an older figure (not even necessarily an adult just someone older) actually interacts with a younger person they tend to maintain a safe and healthy friendship because the younger person has someone to guide them or follow by their example. once again. i totally understand why people don't wanna do that. im just pointing out that when it DOES happen it has a positive effect on them. okay i think im done

WAIT AND ANOTHER THING. a lot of what they teach about internet safety is really outdated and doesn't apply well into modern internet spaces.

honestly? no.  

i think 4 is the hunters’ limit, in that if they were to add more hunters, there wouldn’t be a noticeable increase in their efficacy.  the more people they add, the more Stuff they need, which takes Longer to get.  dream already can’t take a 1v4 against them without having some trap set up first so the extra manpower a person would add doesn’t really help.  so if dream can beat 4 people, there’s no reason why he can’t beat more.

of course, then it’s a question of Content Quality, which may not matter to people if they just Love watching dteam do these challenges.  but it matters in terms of career longevity and overall growth.

dream’s traps and tricks are all really cool, but where he really shines is his ability to adapt quickly to his situation and think on his feet.  but i think the hunters have played all of the cards in their deck. they could give the End Traps another go and the end crystal play was Phenomenal, but i don’t know what else they could do that they haven’t done before.  the Content depends on Both the speedrunner and hunters making insane plays for the video to be interesting to watch; this is why other people’s version of Minecraft Manhunt aren’t as interesting to watch, as the skill level disparity is too great.  the alternative is like 1v100, which has been done way too many times before and Definitely not dream’s style.

the other reason these video are So Popular (beside editing, soundtrack, etc.) are the people themselves.  i think he could swap out the hunters for other mcyters to make cameos.  illumina’s manhunt was Great.  fruitberries would be another good option.  plus different people bring novel ideas and their own 200IQ plays.  they could do videos with dreamSMP people and give the hunters some advantage.  techno and dream collab lol jk...unless?

i might not be super informed abt all the details abt what accents signify in the UK, but i know enough abt history to know that ewen bremner going ham on the scottish accent in a show where the british are all portrayed as irredeemable colonizers is Based As Fuck. and this doesnt rlly apply to con/izzy bc con's accent is still english and izzy literally aligns w the british navy to achieve his goals, something that ofmd explicitly condemns

i know samba schutte personally chose to have roach's accent say something about the Roach Backstory he made up as part of the show's encouragement to have the actors for some of the side characters come up with backstories for their characters, but idk if all the actors chose to have their accents mean something. also, coming up with backstories obviously wasnt something that actors playing characters with more importance to the plot were asked to do. rhys, taika, and vico were given their characters' backstories. izzy is more important to the plot than roach (and wee john and fang, two other characters whose actors' have talked abt the backstories they came up with for their characters), and while we dont have a backstory for him yet, i wouldnt be surprised if con didn't get to come up with one. basically, samba deciding to have roach's accent mean something doesn't inherently mean izzy's accent means izzy is poor

A few things!

Prospero is confirmed aromantic, not asexual. Kind of embarrassing to be complaining about erasure in the same breath as ignoring his canonically unconfirmed sexuality in favor of your dogma.

Please stop pretending that the entire aroace community is a united front and on your side, because a lot of us either don't give a shit or enjoy exploring the nuances of aromantic love and relationships through media (i really don't see why that's a bad thing).

"what about those who don't?" what about those who do? don't you see that by complaining that about erasure of aroaces that feel no attraction you're kind of erasing those of us that do feel attraction? there are so many ways to be on the aroace spectrum, and they ALL deserve to be represented. furthermore, one can be in a relationship while not being attracted to the other party.

I agree that completely ignoring aromantic/asexual identity completely is erasure, but you can ship aromantic/asexual characters without erasing their identity, and attempting to ban all shipping of aro/ace characters through some form of attempted moral superiority is not only impossible (it's the internet) but unproductive for the community at large.

also, and this is less important in my opinion, but there is official rednflynn art of prospero kissing a man. he's not a celibate monk whose character hinges on never touching or enjoying the company of another human being, and its not a crime to play with his relationships to other characters. (especially because it's all hypothetical. its not like prospero is making out with montresor in the comic guys, chill please)

side note, prospero HAS shown interest in platonic relationships. not super much, because they're in a fight to the death arena sort of thing, but he considers allying with lenore and he and annabel literally have tea parties lol (also he's the only one to hug her in the entire comic besides lenore and ira (and ada i guess if you count her, but annabel was uncomfortable with that))

anyways, while i completely understand not being on board with certain ships and seeing certain added traits as irritating mischaracterizations (trust me, i get upset about a lot of random stuff. i know its difficult to scroll past), just because you personally don't like it doesn't mean that people who ship prospero are immoral and deplorable. (and even if they were, we all know damn well people would still do it) please, for your own good, block prospero ship tags and scroll past the stuff you do see. let people enjoy his character their way, and you can enjoy it yours. love is love, we're all in this fandom and community together and even though we don't all agree, that's part of the beauty of it.

and before aaaanyone says i have no right to speak on this, i am on the aroace spectrum and am fully within my rights to have an opinion on this. you don't have to agree with me, but be respectful about it pretty please <3

I'm so fucking sick of you shipping aroace characters when they've clearly shown ZERO interest in romantic/sexual relationships LET ALONE PLATONIC RELATIONSHIPS. "Well they're fictional" you wouldn't ship a lesbian character with a straight man would you? "Aces/Aros can still feel love" true, but what about those who don't? Do you just completely ignore them? Alastor has shown so many times that he wants nothing to do with these kind of stuff yet you still keep shipping him with Charlie, Lucifer etc. Prospero too. We're so happy to get the little representation we can get and yet you keep erasing us.
