still vaguely let down by the dismissal of sublimi feriam sidera vertice ("i'll strike the stars with my held-high head"....dont @ me) as "formulaic" because the image of touching the stars is conventional...but the whole point (the whole point!!) is the undercut delivered in the more overt comic violence of feriam, not only touch but strike against, the literary firmament reduced to a low ceiling and the poet granted a slapstick apotheosis. it's both smug (not only will i ascend, i will push at and perhaps through) and self-deprecating (i'll probably embarrass myself in the process) and it's a tight little line and. of course there’s no requirement to find it interesting but sometimes a half-aware read instills a real feeling of pity!! people are just out there not receiving what the work has to offer.
