btw my actual dream steve robin (+ eddie) job is that in the wake of the welcome to HELL i mean hawkins fiasco and in an effort to both boost town morale and benefit from tourism plus governmental aid they ship in a metric shitload of materials and turn lover's lake into a sort of day camp combined summer attraction camping ground. gift shop boat rentals a little area to eat a get back to nature service that's literally just babysitting for a few hours even a little hiking lake tour because it's pretty out there i think :). and as is the nature of humanity a significant amount of people going to hawkins of all places is because it's the place with the mysterious spooky happenings and now there's a LAKE well obviously they've got a lake monster obviously...
so it becomes this sort of unofficial roadside attraction and the kids decide to make it their mission to prove there IS a lake monster (for reasons ranging from "we need to kill it it could be the upside down!!!" to "we need to save it and be it's FRIEND!!! IT'S A DINOSAUR A LIVING LEGEND!!") and like sure maybe the only reason steve applied for the job is to keep an eye on things bc it IS lover's lake but he's also got lifeguard experience plus he never got to camp as a kid.. :(. eddie works the gift shop bc he's insane but the right amount of insane to work at a roadside attraction giftshop and get people to buy little keychains and bullshit merch including the t-shirts HE makes and sells on the side that's like "i saw the HAWKINS LAKE MONSTER" (eddie is also the one who comes up with 99% of the mythology not because of dnd creativeness he just really believes it). robin and steve trade off on the tours + kiosk food service and steve more often than not is the one leading around a group of 11 year olds telling them the most child inappropriate stories known to man because it's the only thing that keeps them quiet they all think he's in like. the mafia and a world renown monster hunter. steve always puts a line of zinc sunscreen on eddie's cheeks and then by the middle of the day there will inevitably be a little bit on his own as well. This is my beautiful world.
