Adrian swallowed hard, feeling as though a lump were actually stuck in his throat at the sound of her apology, followed by her hopeful words. He didn't know if he had the strength in him anymore to smile her way. Those smiles were lost on her, and he wondered if he shouldn't just start anew. Try to get her to fall in love with him once again. He wasn't even sure that she could or would fall in love with him a second time. There was a good chance she wasn't completely the same person that she was when they'd met, or before the accident. This person before him might not look for what he had to offer.

"That's what they said," Adrian replied in agreement, accompanied by a small nod. His eyes closed as memories continued to swirl playing back like a film. "But, they said there was still a chance..." He didn't need to finish his statement. The unspoken 'that you might never regain that part of your memory' hung in the air between them.

"You don't have to apologize. This isn't your fault. None of this was your fault." If he could find the person who had caused this accident, he would lay out his frustrations until they understood the pain they'd caused him.
