Sam "Mr Misfortune" Ayers oh boy!

love Sam, he can be aloof and he has a dry sense of humor and i love that in protagonists. he's fascinating cause like, he's bitter about his circumstances and life and yet he has this sense of god-fearing self sacrificial-ness? like he kinda believes that he deserves some of the shit that's happening to him while ALSO romanticizing the idea of leaving and restarting his life and that's some good shit.

I think Sam is at his strongest in terms of writing in Murdoch's route and Cliff's. now i haven't read the last six or so TSR updates (busy girl here) so i can't really talk about his current character in Nik's and Will's but ough Sam in Cliff and Murdoch's routes is so fucking good. His interactions with the Byrnes family, Blithe, the traveling group in Cliff's route, the Meseta, OUGHGH!! it's like, god he's so well written there. just seeing how he takes in the world around him and processes it vs his own goals and how he grows and changes as he gets close to the people around him.

like he can definitely be warm and accommodating, especially when working, but he is undeniably selfish in his actions beyond that and i really like his sense of action (especially compared to other vn protags *cough cough* adastra). he isn't like, malicious, just kinda reckless and very self-serving
