i am SO glad your username popped up in my notifs and i checked out your blog — (you don’t have to publish this if you’re not comfortable with it) but i have diabetes too and literally just a few days i started writing a diabetic!alex au to vent about everything since i hadn’t seen one and THEN I FOUND YOURS and i bookmarked to read ASAP when i have the time!!! i had kind of abandoned mine since i didn’t think it would resonate with anyone but i might finish it now if i have the time 🥹

i remember when i first started that fic, there wasn't any diabetic aus in the fandom, but i'd seen fics like pump the volume by absoluteaudacity and bear it all by Bri_Cheese and,,,,,, well, it showed me, as you were saying, a safe space to turn all the big feelings about it into something,,, more(? and oh well, i've always thought, what a better way to deal with trauma and medical burnout than give your problems to your favorite characters?? sjsksjsksjsksjskssjsksj

Ok cons and spite bits first

- I'm really getting tired with Maria's bits cause Liz figured out Jones all by herself but Maria went through this whole convoluted way to tell Isobel and Rosa, that was messing with and freaking Rosa out. ALSO FINALLY SOMEONE PUT THE DAMN NECKLACE ON HER CAUSE SHE CAN'T BE TRUSTED TO HAVE ANY SELF PRESERVATION. I low-key thought the handprint was actually a physical manifestation of her brain deteriorating MORE because she's been so vision obsessed.

- I will be honest and say the Jones reveal was really mediocre for me because it felt like/ I knew it was going to happen so it wasn't really much of a surprise. It felt inevitable. Also Jones just really hits different from Max so I already knew from that too 😂 I actually went "Oh dang you're so good and kinda hot in this scene!... Oh wait you're Jones no wonder 😔"

- I was a little sad there wasn't another malex scene BUT I'LL GET TO WHAT I DID LOVED NOW!

Pros and love!

- ALEX. MY DUDE. I MISSED YOU. YOU'RE SO SMART! JUST ALL THE ALEX SCENES WITH EVERYONE!

- The start of the episode was so good and I really missed Liz and Michael scenes 😭 give me my science bros back! (which also includes Kyle of course!)

- SANDERS. MVP. BEST DAD. ALSO SO VERY SMART. OG MALEX SHIPPER. GIVE ME MORE SANDERS AND MICHAEL DAMMIT.

- of course Rosa and her earmuffs!!!! And her teaming up with Isobel

- I just wanna say that me and @winged-fool were right about Ramos being from one of the family lineages at Deep Sky! Though now I really want Kyle to take over Deep Skies with Alex. Kyle my man I'm sorry you keep finding out about more relatives this way 😂

- MICHAEL USING HIS POWERS YES MORE. JONES ALSO USING HIS POWERS AND THAT ALIEN SWORD. THAT WAS HOT.

- Michael finding Deep Sky OMG I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT. WHAT'S WILL HAPPEN! WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON AT DEEP SKY! WHAT RAMOS WAS ON THE PHONE ABOUT!

- ALEX AND LIZ SCENE LIKE FINALLY FRIENDS!!!! WHY DOES THIS SHOW KEEP FORGETTING THEY WERE ALL CHILDHOOD FRIENDS????

So it was a good episode but nothing has beat that 3x03 high that dragged me back in, here's to hoping we get more!

Sorry I'm so late getting to this!

So I thought the deteriorating mindscape thing was a really cool effect (also it helped that m*ria wasn't there so we just got to see Isobel interacting with the set) but it doesn't make sense if Jones just put her to sleep that everything would be like that so I'm guessing there's something more going on? But is it going to leave permanent damage because it looks like her mind is crumbling. But at this point I just don't really care what happens to her so, 🤷‍♀️

NGL, I love the Jones stuff just because I had been WAITING for some mistaken identity shenanigans! I think it would have been better if they told the audience first that it was Jones and then it would have been more fun being "in" on the secret while everyone else didn't know. As it is, most fans DID know because Jones is...not very good at imitating Max but because the were giving the audience the *wink, wink. nudge, nudge* by having it pretty clearly be Jones, it just made the other characters look a little slow on the uptake. But overall I thought it was fun.

The fact that the released the entirety of the only scene Malex were in together as a sneak peek is my villain origin story.

BAMF ALEX MANES MY BELOVED! I was so happy to see him back and being smart and sassy, and god the memes to come out of Alex's look at "do you believe in aliens?" have been priceless.

We definitely need more science bros!! We were robbed of getting to see the three of them working together last season and I demand to see it this time around!

Sanders was a surprise, I wasn't sure if we would get him back this season and then we DID and he was PERFECT. Him and Michael have clearly gotten closer and built up a solid relationship and Sanders teasing Michael about Alex was SUCH a dad moment! 😭😭😭 And then him helping Michael to focus and think through things was so great. I love him so much. Also, he's basically a dad figure and pokes fun at Michael about Alex in my Dancing in the Dark fic and I'm feeling so vindicated right now.

Rosa's earmuffs! She looked so adorable! As much as storywise her and Isobel is a bit of an odd choice, her and Lily work SO well together so all of their scenes are enjoyable to watch.

Poor Kyle! His family tree is a bit of a mess. I'm very curious if Eduardo was lying when he said he didn't have a nephew, or if his relation to Kyle is going to be a surprise to BOTH of them. I'm very excited to find out more about Deep sky! But also!! If Heath turns out to be related to Eduardo like I though as his connection to everything that would be HILARIOUS because then Kyle would get a new cousin too, and one who has also slept with Liz! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I am LOVING all the genius Michael we're getting this season and finally seeing him using his powers more casually (and around Alex) and also using that big brain of his! (Now use it to communicate with Alex!) Also Jones is, regrettably, VERY hot. But also, sir? That dog does NOT need to be exposed to your violence. He's just a sweet little boi. Let him stay in the car!

Michael using his brain to stumble on a "super secret" military base that has to do with aliens is just...so on brand for him 🤣 I'm very excited to see what we get next week too!

That Alex and Liz scene was SO good and I hope we get more of that dynamic moving forward! But whoooo boy do they both need Kyle around to be their moral compass! 🤣

My 3x03 experience was not quite as high-flying as yours, but 3x02 was my high point and this episode isn't quite there, but pretty darn close! So excited to see what we get next week!

headcAnon ✨ here! I am really enjoying season 3! ❤️ There are a few things I really wish they didn’t do or did differently but it’s been mostly a positive experience. So much cool alien stuff! Many character moments I loved! The plot! How are you liking it so far? I also wanted to know if you have any Alex and Rosa headcanons. I think they were friends. I feel like they would get each other. Or maybe Michael and Rosa headcanons in honor of last episode.

I am loving it! I can't say I am 100% satisfied with every plot point, every development, and every way they've handled stuff, but I am excitedly waiting for every episode and enjoying watching it every week, so at the end of the day it is an overall positive opinion on my part too.

Rosa is one of my favorite characters, so I'm happy they're including her more and they're giving her scenes with everyone else (I'm 👀 👀 at the scene she's gonna have with Michael, can't wait!)

As far as HCs go,

I'm pretty sure Rosa was one of those older sisters who pretended to be soooo annoyed by her little sister's friends, she referred to Alex and Maria as brats for years on end.

Nonetheless, she actually watched the three of them (and Kyle, occasionally) like a hawk during their get-togethers. Made sure none of the tinhats approached them at the Crashdown and skimmed off fries from other people's plates to bring them some.

Alex had always been a quiet kid, so at first Rosa didn't think much of him silently staring at her doing her nails, but the way he tried to avoid her eyes and cover his hands with his sleeves told her everything she needed to know:

Halloween 2005, she forcefully pushed two different shades of black nail polish and one glittery top coat into Alex's protesting hands: 'you can't go out with an unfinished costume, Alex. Now shut up and let me'

The feeling she got from watching Alex stroll around town with his nails varnished after that is too close to pride for her to acknowledge it.

I don't think they ever were close confidante-friends, but I do think that they both felt very safe with each other, in a way where they didn't have to explicitly state their secrets, but they still got support from one another.

I can totally see them just ~sharing space after a difficult day, sitting next to each other, not even listening to the same music because you know Rosa would be horrified at Alex's playlist, but- hey, everyone's entitled to their own coping mechanism.

Rosa is probably the only one who actually noticed Alex's big, elephant-sized crush on Michael. This was way before the guitar incident™, and honestly she thought Alex could do so much better, not that his master plan of wooing Michael by the sheer power of covertly staring is gonna get him anywhere.

Michael and Rosa never actually mingled in high school. Michael was too little of a bad boy, because acting up would inevitably call attention on him, and Rosa would have never let people see her hang with anyone who got an A+ on a physic paper.

That being said, Rosa started keeping tabs on Michael on Alex's behalf, not that Alex actually ever asked her to, but just because she was playing this game of 'how many different shades of pink can Alex turn when Guerin's name is casually dropped in a conversation?'. The answer is five.

Rosa didn't come along when Mimi and Maria took Alex to pierce his septum, but she did make sure to tell him he looked cool in front of everyone else (and Kyle) at the skate park that afternoon, and Alex did stand a little bit taller on his board.

Right before senior year, Alex uncharacteristically seeked Rosa out, showing her an eye pencil with trembling hands; they spent the entire afternoon trying out different styles and practicing, before settling on a fine line on his inner rim. Before sending him home, Rosa used her own mascara to paint a light coat on Alex's eyelashes. "Precioso", she whispered, before sticking the tube in his pocket.

Liz got so mad because her sister never let her borrow any make-up, and sulked until Rosa was able to convince her she only did it to pay him back for the shoes she ruined on her quinceañera.

Once she was out of school, I think Rosa took a step back from everything that reminded her of what she was trying to run away from, but incidentally, her newfound secret friendship with Izzy took her in Michael's orbit more often.

I don't think they ever hung out, but I do think they nodded towards each other in that indifferent way of acknowledging each other cool people tend to do. Why Michael was always around the corner when she went to see Izzy, she would never understand, but again, she also wished he didn't wonder about her presence in the near vicinity either.

For all the silent support they gave each other, I believe Rosa and Alex only hugged once. It was mother's day and Helena was god knows where and Alex was all alone, now that Flint was away at boot camp. No tear was shed, but after a good 40 minutes Alex stood up, hugged Rosa and went away. She made a mental note of try and catch up with him, maybe ask him if he finally got the huevos to ask Guerin out, or even just buy him a nice gift for his 18th birthday. Yes, that was exactly what she was going to do. Get better, buy Alex a gift, and tease him just a little bit. But first, get better. Sounds like a perfect plan.
