learning other languages has this odd mix of “this is so much easier/smarter - why the fuck don’t we do it like this in English” and “why do you do it this way??? this is so confusing????”

#as an example - counting in japanese is really easy because you don't have separate words for things like 11 12 13 20 etc it's just ten-one #or two-ten and combinations therein like three-ten-four for 34 #super easy #wish english did that #but then to count objects you have to say a completely different pronunciation.... why is one no longer one???? why?????#also I mean absolutely zero offence by this in case that wasn't clear #I love languages and they're so fucking beautiful I wish I could speak all of them #my poor sad brain just gets confused very easily lol
