Once again, the comforting feelings of validation and righteousness don’t last. The day of your wedding, all you can do is cry silent sorrowful tears as you’re woken and made to get dressed and ready. The beta woman doing your makeup had given up trying to work around your tears, applying a much lighter application than what she thought was necessary for such a prestigious event. Farai was trying to be cheerful, but she was at a loss of what to do to console you as well. Your only saving grace is that you had most of the day to sulk in misery by yourself. Tradition dictated the ceremony be in the late evening under a full moon.

It had to be some form of cruel and unusual punishment from the universe that everyone but you was buzzing around like happy little butterflies. Even when the tears stopped and you were shown the final result of everyone’s diligent work, you could only stare back at the reflection of the pretty girl draped in Jabari finery and decorated with carefully painted bridal markings.

FIRSTLY. I love that all the focus was on Aftermath in Wakanda. It's refreshing not to live so much in Ollie's head after the flashback POVs. There were so many subtle things in that flashback cold open that it just makes me wanna go back and read all the flashback chapters and match all of where Ghost's mind was at with where Ollie's was.

I love how even in Wakanda and all its glory, Ghost is still not in peace. Home has never been a place for her, it's always been Bucky, and her being in literal paradise and still being in shambles is just so cool.

Also Ramonda giving Ghost a ✨side eye✨is iconic and I love it.

M'Baku making his entrance is just so perfect. And I have so so much to say about M'Baku.

The dynamics between Shuri and Boone are just. PERFECT. I love them so much they're so cool. I love seeing two women in STEM being nerds, and Boone complimenting Griot? Sweet. Lovely. Adorable.

Now I'm reailzing how much Boone would adore Riri.

ALSO somewhere down the whole Jack dealing with the effects of the serum and all that I thought about Jack splitting apart and getting himself a Hyde!Jack of his own. If him recovering and riding out all of the side effects of the serum in such a different physical and mental environment from Ghost's when she was recovering, would affect his own decision making?

Like he is in drastically different circumstances than Ghost was in that bunker, which isn't necessarily where Hyde!Ghost came to be (she's been around since Alpha One, and Danny was very turned on by Hyde!Ghost) but when would Hyde!Jack be born so to speak? When would he make himself known?

Would Hyde!Ghost be this intense if Ghost was allowed to properly heal in New Eden? If SHIELD hadn't come for her so early?

Ok M'Baku's time to shine because I love him and he deserves the world.

I already told you how much you nailed the Wakandans' accents and their patterns of speech but you nailed M'Baku. He's perfect.

Also... there were lots of parts of this chapter that makes me think about the war against Talokan. Now I'm realizing, if Aftermath offered to support them then, M'Baku would have agreed. Of course that was Shuri's fight and she made the choices at the end of the day (I don't think she'd let anyone else get in between her and Namor) but M'Baku has so many reasons to push Shuri to agree.

We've talked about how Shuri would have asked for help from Ghost because of how her blood works, and if it had failed that would cause some tension between her and Ghost. But Boone was speaking for all of them when she told T'Challa, they're allies now.

And M'Baku was there. He'd know it, he'd take advantage of that if Namor came. Even before he saw Ghost sparring with Okoye (and kicking her ass), just one conversation between them already gave him a veeeery strong impression of who Ghost was and what she was capable of.

And the icing on the cake was watching her fight.

He'd want her to be there if Namor was the one they were dealing with. And so would I that's why I'm signing the petition for a future Namor storyline--

Hyde!Ghost is such a cool character, completely separate now from Ghost herself huh? If I'm not mistaken, Ghost wasn't the one to goade the Dora into a spar, it was her. She can talk out loud now. That is the most terrifying thing ever.

Also that whole spar from start to end was so fricking cool. Jack fighting Ghost was so interesting. If only I could see all that play out on screen for real.

And wouldn't the score be so fun too? It would be a great opportunity to remix the Dora Milaje theme with the vocals and the rhythms with Ghost's theme. Like The DM theme just layering and getting stronger until Ghost starts figuring them out, her theme harmonizing with theirs until her motif takes over, and the Dora's rhythms start flowing with the melody of Ghost's theme.

I've been nerding out this whole chapter if you couldn't tell already.

There's so much fun stuff and Tumblr deleted all of it and I wish I could talk about it more and more and more and more

I loved this chapter. So fricking much. I'm kinda sad they're leaving Wakanda soon, these have been great chapters. Probably some of my favorites, but it's hard to choose from 87 fucking chapters.

Darke you never cease to be amazing. It's great. You're great. This is great.

“Still.” Jack shook his head again, setting his hands on his hips with a sigh, “I don’t wanna hurt you.”

“You don’t understand, (F/N), I—”

“Perhaps you should stop talking and make better use of your time,” a voice called from above you, cutting Jack off.

Groaning, Tony opened his dark, whisky brown eyes that look up at a thankfully darkened ceiling. Soothing low lights illuminate the area but aren’t enough to hurt his eyes, allowing him to get awareness slowly and at his own pace. Whoever had the foresight to dim the lights, he will send them a massive fruit basket to show his appreciation.  

Turning his head to the side, Tony takes in more of his surroundings as he tries to figure out what on earth happened, and just where the hell he is. 

To his surprise, Tony can see what looks like a lab beyond the area he is in. While he looks, a Wakandan in a lab coat strolls by, talking to their…wrist? Confused, Tony winces as he slowly sits up, rubbing at his chest and arm as he feels his limbs protest the movement.  

Setting his feet onto the floor, he notes that his clothes from earlier, the ones he recalls wearing on his flight, have been replaced by a dark blue tunic with black, very loose linen trousers. Both are far more comfortable than they should be, and Tony wondered if they would let him keep the clothes if he asked nicely. 

“I see you are finally awake,” 

Jumping (and no he did not scream!) and craning his neck to look over his shoulder, Tony spots Shuri; recongising her from their video calls from before. 

“What happened? Last thing I remember was being on the plane…” 

Playing with the beads on her wrist, Shuri walked around the table to stand in front of the elder Omega, smiling at him, though in her eyes Tony can see a cheeky glint. An easy to miss look that makes Tony think of Peter. 

“How are you feeling? M’Baku found you in a pool of mud and water. Very lucky you were here in Wakanda when the accident occurred. Anywhere else and you would still be bruised and broken.” 

“Whoa wait, how long has it been since you guys found me?” 

Brow furrowing in confusion yet intrigue, Tony tries to stand and is happy to find that he can do so perfectly, even if he is a little groggy still. 

“Oh, about 3 hours? I’ve been improving our healing system lately!” 

Smiling brightly and obviously proud of herself, Shuri helped him move away from the table and slowly led him to a lab chair. She offered him a drink of water which Tony gratefully accepted, downing it as fast as he could without making himself sick. Putting the cup down and breathing heavily, Tony’s eyes widened in shock and no small amount of awe. 

“Three hours?!” 

Damn Wakanda really is superior huh? Tony shook his head and tucked away his questions for another time, though he would love nothing more right now than to take a look at the system Shuri was using and learn how it all works. Tony quickly brought his focus back to the main issue. 

“Does anyone know what exactly happened? What caused the accident?” 

Sitting down near him, Shuri gave him her full attention. 

“I just checked in with T’Challa before you woke up. The are looking through the ruins as we speak and T’Challa said he is cataloguing everything they find and if they spot anything weird, they will let you look over it. I also have scanning equipment to look for any electrical faults or tampering” 

Rubbing his forehead, Tony sighed heavily as he tried to think of anything that could have gone wrong. The aircraft was one that he’d built and put together mostly by himself, anything he hadn’t done himself he had Friday overlook and monitor. However, if its not the actual craft that was compromised, then that leaves the horrible option that someone had snuck something onto the plane without Tony or Friday realizing. And that honestly frightens him far more. 

From the grim look that Shuri is giving him, she knows exactly what he’s thinking. 

“Thank you Shuri, for healing me and to your brother for looking over the plane for me,” 

Waving away his thanks Shuri grins at him, her upbeat personality coming back through. “Don’t thank me, I kinda wanted an excuse to show off something to you” 

Giving her a grin of his own Tony looks back over to the area he had just been laying in. 

“I am thoroughly impressed already and cannot wait to see more inventions from you”  

Bouncing in her seat, her body practically vibrating in excitement, Shuri grabs his arm to pull him up as she stands. “let’s start the tour!” 

Without waiting for Tony to reply, Shuri drags him off to show him around her lab, introducing him to the various scientist that are currently working on one project or another. Tony loved the moving black model pedestal. The black matter moving fluidly to bring up whatever is needed, be it floor plans or models of objects. Essentially a much better version of a hologram.  

When Shuri showed him the bigger version in the middle of the floor that allows her to remotely drive a vehicle from the lab, Tony lost it and insisted on her giving him a demo of it. Like children in a toy shop, they got stuck into their own little world. 

They were so engrossed in what they where doing that they completely missed M’Baku entering with Bucky following behind, carrying a tray of food for Shuri and Tony. The duo had intercepted the original person carrying it and insisted on delivering it themselves. M’Baku brought them to a stop a few feet away, watching the now healed Stark chat away with the younger genius. 

Bucky stood a little bit awkwardly behind M’Baku, as the last time he and Stark had met face to face…bad shit happened. He didn’t want to hurt Stark, the poor omega had been hurt enough as it is; yet his concern had won out and convinced him to keep checking on Stark’s progress as he healed. M’Baku was much bolder than him though. 

They watched for a while longer as the two geniuses spoke at the speed of light, Tony screaming and eagerly testing out each invention. Firing questions and saying words that M’Baku could not keep up with nor hope to understand. Amused, M’Baku makes his way closer calling out in a sudden booming voice to catch their attention. 

“Food! That is if you two can drag yourselves away from the toys long enough to eat it,” Smirking when Tony and Shuri jump, M’Baku helps Bucky put the food on a near by counter for them. 

Rolling her eyes, Shuri gets up and helps tony before deactivating the invention they were playing with. 

“How did you get in? I thought I banned you after the 5 times you guys asking if Tony was better?” 

Looking over the plates, Shuri oohs at the variety of foods that had been prepared for them, many of which would be easier for Tony to eat if he was still feeling a little off. Behind her, Tony catches sight of Barnes and pauses briefly as he takes everything in. 

Barnes looks hopelessly nervous and scared stood behind the larger Wakandan, the red robe like clothing actually looks good on him, the blue sling around the stump where his arm used to be is done in a tasteful manner which doesn’t drag your attention overly to it. Hell, Tony can even admit that Barnes looks healthier overall, his hair looks fluffy and is longer, a small portion pulled back into a bun. Tony is not afraid to admit that Barnes looks handsome. 

Wakanda obviously agrees with him. 

“You look good Barnes” 

Freezing slightly, Bucky looks up at Tony in surprise that Tony is actually acknowledging him. Nodding his head slowly and drawing himself up to stand a bit straighter, Bucky gives Tony a small, soft and shy smile. 

“So do you” 

Huffing in amusement, Tony plucks up from fruit to eat to keep his hands and mouth busy as he feels an uncharacteristic shyness overtake him. 

“Thanks, considering I was a wreck 3 hours ago, I take that as a big compliment” 

Between them, M’Baku looks between them with growing glee at how adorably shy these two are. Yes, he knows that things were not that great between these two not so long ago, but it seems to be fixable judging by what he’s just seen. Deciding to think more on this later; and possibly make a plan to help these two fix the gap between them. M’Baku pulls out a bottle of juice that his tribe had made themselves. 

“I brought this as well, it’s meant to help with any aches. Would you like to try some?” 

Humming in thought, Tony looks the larger Alpha up and down in a considering manner. Growing up rich, Tony had gotten used to expecting many Alphas having a motive behind many of their actions. Some more sinister than others. However, this alpha seems genuine enough.  

“Sure! As they say, when in Rome do as Roman’s do huh?” Tony flashes M’Baku his most harmless yet charming smile. 

Oh, M’Baku thinks, I’m in trouble.

Ekene and Ifeoma packed your bags and bundled you up in your warmest coat in about twenty minutes. You were sure that Ifeoma didn’t help as much as she directed Ekene on what to do. Though, you wouldn’t know; M’Baku did not let you out of his sight for even a moment. You were a jittery mess, standing stalk-still beside him as you were made to wait while your things were abruptly folded into two suitcases. You knew why they wouldn’t let you help.

They were afraid you would run.

You wanted to run away, but the thought of doing so made you queasy with fear. You would be hunted down immediately; probably by M’Baku himself. The tears had not stopped flowing, but you had given up on begging to be released. Your father was completely ignoring your pleas now, his face flat and stoic.

Things weren’t made any better when Chinelo attempted to placate you with the fact that your family would be coming with you to the pack stronghold. Was she being this cruel to you on purpose? You had thought she was so kind before. The fact that your family would come to stay with you at the stronghold only reminded you that this was all ceremonial. Having your family nearby until the official date of marriage was tradition after all.

Leading the way through the pristine yet beautifully decorated corridors, Bucky takes Tony up to the private wing. This small area of the palace had only a cluster of rooms, just a small branch off from the main body of the palace, yet still as beautiful and welcoming as the rest of it. Decorative robes and tapestries and what Tony was sure were hand-made ornaments, were arranged in a tasteful way.

 Moving to a large window located in one of the communal sitting rooms, with various other windows allowing in light, giving the room a cheery glow, bright and yet soothing on his weary eyes, Tony gazes out on the gorgeous view. The city below is so full of hustle and bustle, a remarkable mixture of traditional buildings and newer more tech savvy ones. A wonderful example of how two very different concepts can work together.

 Beyond the city, Tony can see the jungles, mountains, and plains filled with wild animals. Rhinos are charging about in one massive area of land. Skilled riders on the backs of the great beasts, they seem to be practising manoeuvre’s, as you would expect any cavalry to do.

 “Great view you get up here Frosty, I’m almost jealous,” teasingly, Tony peers over his shoulder at his quiet companion who is watching Tony carefully. Paying more attention, Tony can see some stiffness in the lines of Bucky’s body. Tony isn’t stupid, he can guess what’s the cause of all that stiffness and frankly, it’s probably about the right time to talk it all out.

  Making sure to keep his body posture relaxed, calling on his Showman Stark persona a bit to give off an air of indifference, Tony makes his way over to the ridiculously comfy looking sofas and armchairs. Seriously, how is everything so much comfier looking? Tony needs the name of T’Challa’s decorator.

 “Got something on your mind Elsa?”

 Mouth opening and closing a few times, Bucky mulls over in his head what he wants to say as he slowly, carefully sits in a chair opposite Tony; noticeably much closer to the door as well.

 Keeping quiet, Tony gives Bucky time to gather his thoughts and what he wants to say, Tony almost wishes for the much more relaxed atmosphere in the lab from earlier, but unfortunately in an adult world you gotta adult.  

 Finally, Bucky seems to have found the words he wants to say.

 “Why are you being nice to me? Not that I’m not complaining! I’m just…I didn’t expect… I expected you to hate me, be cold towards me after…” Bucky trails off, both knowing the event he means.

 Humming to himself, Tony leans back into the cushions and barely holds in a whimper of joy at how he just sinks into the cushions.

 “Well, I’m not going to lie  Buckster, at first I did hate you. I hated you for killing my mom.” Bucky flinched at that. “And I hated Steve for having all that time to tell me, even hated Natasha, who had all the time to tell me herself, but neither of them did. Neither told me in a controlled way. Not even a compassionate way. They let some angry asshole throw it in my face. I was so angry that Steve would ride my ass for keeping secrets, or for not talking to the team about my plans, yet he was withholding this information about my family from me.”

 Sighing, eyes closing, Tony rubbed the back of his neck, his shoulders slumping as weariness started to take over. He was tired from the healing process and the Vibranium ball incident and, really, from the struggle and trauma of the plane crash. But mostly, he thinks he might be more tired of this on-going drama.

 “I am still bitter about what Steve and Natasha did, it will take a long, long while for things to be ok again between the three of us. However, the hate towards you?” Tony raises his gaze to look Bucky right in the eye at this, allowing Bucky to see how sincere he is. “It went away. After I had time to calm down after you and Steve left and I got back home finally, my hate changed to... I wouldn’t say pity, but I did feel sorry for you. I knew you had been through hell, what Hydra had done, my anger instead turned on those who used you. As it rightfully should be.”

 Leaning forward in his seat, leaning closer to Bucky, Tony gives him a small hesitant smile. Heart racing in elation when he receives a small, shaky one in response.

 “So in summary, while I was at first angry due to the situation we were in, and the way I was told, Steve’s betrayal not helping. I lost myself and wrongfully attacked you. After having time to process it all, and being able to step back and logically think it through, I know you are not the one to blame James.”

 Jolting a bit in surprise at Tony using his actual first name, Bucky swallows a few times his throat feeling like it is full of lead as he takes in what Tony is telling him. Clearing his throat several times, finally, Bucky nods at Tony, his voice soft but a bit rough with emotions.

 “Thank you Tony and I’m sorry you found out about it all that way…if it means anything, I have told Steve that you deserved to have been told everything in person and much sooner”

 Huffing through his nose ruefully, Tony shakes his head as he tries to imagine that.

 “Thanks Bucko, but you don’t need to apologise” It was Steve he wanted, needed to hear that from, “I’m just glad you’re looking better than you did back then, healthier and if I heard the others right, on the road to being in control again?”

 Relaxing finally more fully and leaning back to relax into the cushions, rather than sit on the edge of the chair. Bucky smiles more steadily and nods in agreement.

 “Shuri and T’Challa and even M’Baku have helped a lot since I came here, Shuri helped get rid of the triggers and T’Challa gave me work when I felt more stable, and for a bit I lived in a nearby village with my goats. Just for small periods at a time, to get used to being in public places again. Being around regular people again. The kids there are adorable.”

 The more he spoke, the bigger the grin on Bucky’s face grew, his frame becoming more open and languid. More comfortable, which pleased Tony greatly. Tony hated conflict and awkward silences, possibly more than Vanko and his bastardisation of Tony’s tech.

 As Bucky was getting into a story of how one determined goat kept trying to stick its horns up Bucky’s backside as he worked, M’Baku finally arrived, politely knocking on the door, with a trolley full of a great variety of foods and drinks for them all in tow. 

 Flashing them a grin, the towering Alpha brought the trolley through to where they were sat, “Sorry it took so long, I wasn’t sure what sort of food you would like,”

 With a flourish, M’Baku removed lids and dish coverings to reveal many different things. One of the dishes was a stew/soup dish called Egusi; a dish of ground up melon seeds, leafy vegetables and small chunks of meat. Thieboudienne; a dish of fish, rice and tomato sauce and an assortment of vegetables (possible what the dish Savannah red rice was modeled after.). a pudding like dish that Tony had to ask for the name of which was apparently called Moin Moin. On the next row was a large plate of chips, seasoned in spaces and next to it was a plate filled with Sambaza, a small fish that’s been deep fried and covered in lemon. Brochette and Sambusa make up the rest of that row. On the bottom row was mashed pumpkin, yams, Biltong which is sliced dried meat, seasoned with spices and smoked. Boerewors, a form of long spiral sausage. Some Drywors made up last of the meat dishes. Littered in the small gaps are small plates of slices of cakes that have been carefully placed on.

 Tony can feel his mouth water as he looks over each dish, some he recongises from business trips to both East and West countries on the continent, but all look equally delicious. Tony isn’t surprised to feel a bit of drool escape as he lifts his hand to quickly wipe it away.

 Laughing lightly, Bucky gets up and hands him a plate as he and M’Baku start to plate up.

 “You going to sit there staring? Come eat, before it gets cold!” Smirking, M’Baku quickly moves to the side as Tony rushes over, suddenly realizing just how hungry he is.

 After shoveling food onto his plate until no more would fit, Tony settled at a small table with the two Alphas; Bucky producing some drinks for them as they ate in companionable silence. Tony was surprised how nice the Egusi was, God he wished Peter, Pepper or Rhodey were here with him. They would all love the food here, maybe next time he would bring them.

 “How long will you be in Wakanda, Stark?” M’Baku broke the silence after they all had nearly two servings each, hunger now somewhat abated enough to eat more slowly.

 Dabbing his mouth clean, Tony stopped inhaling his food long enough to answer, “Well I was originally going to stay here for a week. However, with the reveal of what caused me to crash, I may end up needing to leave sooner. T’Challa is gathering all the evidence and collaborating with Jarvis first”

 Frowning a bit, unhappy that this visit could be cut short, M’Baku huffed to himself quietly, “Shame. I’d love to give you the grand tour of Wakanda. My kids would also love to meet you. I was going to invite White Wolf here as well.” Grinning with unending glee at the nickname Bucky had been given by the locals, M’Baku sips his drink before looking back at the smaller Omega. “Who caused this crash though? Send them my way, please, my children could use with a new hunting target.”

 Snorting at the mental image of Hammer being chased by a horde of small kids, Tony was almost tempted to take him up on that offer but reluctantly behaved himself.

 “As tempting as that sounds, I should let my lawyers tackle Justin Hammer. I’ve been far too good lately and I fear they must be bored. Though I’ll bring it as a suggestion for community service.”

 Laughing good naturedly, M’Baku sips his drink in between chuckles. Bucky now looking up at Tony curiously.

 “It was Justin Hammer that caused it? Isn’t he the engineer that couldn’t even make a functional mechanical pencil?”

 Roaring even louder with laughter at that, M’Baku nearly spills his drink. “Any idiot could make one of those! Given that you have all the right parts that is,”

 Smirking as he starts on a pudding, Tony nods at Bucky’s question.

 “That’s the guy. I’ve never seen such a terrible engineer in my life, I’m surprised the government kept him on contract for as long as they did to be honest. So glad that marriage fell through…” 

 Both alphas pause briefly at that, Tony had been engaged? That was new information to them, for a guy whose entire life was practically advertised on the daily, you would expect this to be in the news regularly. Or at least common knowledge.

 “You were engaged to Hammer? What happened?” Unable to help himself, M’Baku inquired. Drink now forgotten as he tries to temper down the small flicker of rising jealousy.

 Making a face of disgust, Tony nods. “Yeah, years ago when Hammer’s family became more well known. Good ol’ dad decided to arrange with Justin’s father to marry me and Justin when I hit 21. When my parents died-“ Bucky grimaced “-Obie took over and while he disliked Hammer a lot, mostly he wanted to keep control of Stark Industries. Couldn’t do that if I married Justin, so he broke off the contract and freed me from that future. I know he did it for selfish reason but boy am I glad he did.”

 Pushing his empty plate away, M’Baku leans back in his seat, his thick arms crossing over his barrel of a chest.

 “If you change your mind about how to deal with this Hammer, remember my offer. I’ll even include a boat ride experience for him.” The grin that M’Baku shares tells Tony that Hammer would not enjoy this ‘boat ride’. Despite how innocuous it sounded, but Tony suspects that he himself might enjoy watching.

 “You know, you and my friend Banner would get along great. Remind me to introduce you to him sometime!”

As you were sweeping the floor between the kitchen and dining room, it took about five seconds for Ifeoma’s eldest daughter, Ngozi, to run her mouth.

“Lord M’Baku is looking for a mate!” She squealed excitedly. “This is going to be the biggest party of my entire life!”

“Yeah, but all omegas of the pack are invited.” Uloma told her sister serenely.

Ngozi narrowed her eyes. “So?”

“So—” Uloma smiles. “I’d hate for my only sister to get her feelings hurt when he ends up choosing me instead.”
