there are a couple of times when Galvatron suggests that he's more aware than he's often given credit for.
in Five Faces of Darkness, right after rescuing him from the plasma, Cyclonus says "we've come to deliver you--" and Galvatron cuts him off to be like "deliver me where? my empire of dust? my kingdom of desolation?" while beating him up of course. you could dismiss this as him just being "unstable," i think, and this feeds into my earlier point about the show not doing a great job of telling you when Galvatron is being himself versus when he's experiencing Symptom (if there's even a difference between the two). but he acts like he wanted to be in the plasma and more or less says that the 'cons suck, then fights off his rescuers for a while before being like "ok whatever let's go."
then in Webworld, Galvatron tells the psychiatrists that they have no right to change what he is, implying that he's cognizant of his disability but just doesn't want help for it, not that he's oblivious as the rest of the show tends to suggest.
those are two scenes in an entire season of him Doing Other Stuff. this is a highly inconsistent, bizarre, and often very badly written & drawn cartoon so trying to form a coherent conclusion from this is even harder than in a normal cartoon, where two scenes still wouldn't necesarily mean a lot. maybe he was peeved at how long it took them to find him, but got over it in a few days; he's easily convinced to not attack the Quintessons even after they betrayed him once, after all. maybe his response to the Webworld psychiatrists was simple horror upon realizing they intended to Do things to him.
i think it would be interesting, though, if these things i described meant something. my read on this version of Galvatron feels resentful--he resents that he was in the plasma for so long, so he responds to being rescued with violent levels of sarcasm. he doesn't seek help, even when he screws up his own plans, because in his mind it's a twisted form of punishment for those he views as responsible for his condition. he lacks the ability to self-regulate or resolve his feelings; he loathes the Decepticons as much as he wants to conquer the Autobots, he might not even be able to see how one affects the other, and thus, is left stuck in place, his only recourse to make everyone around him as miserable as he is.
#soundwave posts#transformers#maccadam#galvatron#idk. fun alternate way to look at his character. to me#usually i wld write fics for this sort of stuff but i have no ideas for putting this in story form#all this was brought abt by me thinking 'i like galvrod but to me theyre BOTH suicidal'
