BEST YGO GIRL: SEMI FINALS
Match 2
please use this as an opportunity to say why you like a character, not why you don't.
Propaganda under the cut!
Isis Ishtar
gorgeous, very caring sister, strong duelist, and the only woman to ever make Seto Kaiba squirm
anyways. not only as mentioned above is she the first woman to make kaiba squirm, but she was by all means going to beat him if not for the millennium rod's millennium interference. yami marik admits that she's a strong duelist with a strategy that's been working for literal years-- and given that she's not like, a professional duelist, thats pretty impressive
she also recently got some really cool meta bumps and let me point out that an "ishizu deck" now includes obelisk the tormentor-- which we knew she had prior to giving it to kaiba, but i think it only solidifies my opinion that she very much could wield an Egyptian God Card, an exclusive little club for top tier duelists
as a character she presents herself with an amazing amount of poise and grace, shes compassionate and kind and stays with mai and serenity even though she only just met them. shes struggling through living the past 5 years of her life drowning in guilt for her family's tragedy just because she wanted to make her little brother happy and shadi is a fucking liar. shes foretold her own death and marches towards it grimly but with so much love in her heart. and even then shes 20 years old and holds an important position in the egyptian government that typically requires a doctorate degree AND has been dealing with mariks off-and-on bullshit entirely by her lonesome. she also likes to flex her fortunetelling a little which is awesome i think she should do that more that scene where she tells the guy exactly how the stele is being transported was so everything
speaking of shes got such an attitude. "is it your destiny to waste my time?" iconic. never seen before will never be seen again. watch the duel between her va and joeys its so fucking funny
shes excult. shes doesnt flinch in the face of god nor death. seto kaiba and yami marik respect her. shes so sad and so sweet and battle city couldnt have happened without her.
also her parallels with kaiba are what motivate kaiba to give yugi the card he needed to beat marik.
kaiba, in duelist kingdom, was ready to jump off a ledge if yugi didnt let him through to face pegasus while trying to save mokuba out of sheer desperation to save his little brother. he KNOWS what that dedication feels like and the iron kind of will you need to have to make that kind of gamble. isis is being so fucking legit with what shes saying and he respects that and her judgement enough to change his mind and not only watch the duel, but give yugi a card that eventually helps him win, even if he has no real confidence in the odds. but theres a CHANCE, which is the same thing he taught her when he beat her in a duel. the layers its her faith that moves him to act. which is so crazy
anyway vote isis shes my best friend forever and a real rep for all the 20 year olds who honest to god did not sign up for this bullshit
Aki Izayoi
An abuse victim who isn't the perfect passive figure but gets to work through her complicated feelings about power, agency, and family. Even with Yusei's help, she is the star of the show when she learns to control her powers and reconciles with her father, it is so fun that a ygo heroine gets to take such an antagonistic role bu not be shamed for her anger
please vote for my main girl, aki izayoi. aki was led to believe she was a monster from a young age by her father, who treated her powers like it made her unworthy of love. as a result, divine was able to swoop in and take advantage of aki's low self esteem. for years, aki believed herself unworthy of love and was molded into a living weapon at the hands of authority figures in her life. she was taken advantage of, and thus when she finally comes face to face with yusei, she refuses to believe he could provide her with unconditional friendship. who would want to be around a monster, after all?
aki also nearly beats yusei TWICE in a duel, bringing it down to a single turn difference. she comes toe to toe with him, and it truly is the result of who dueled better. she remains a fierce duelist, btw. the second season, aki gets her duel runner license, and immediately nearly beats the ass of a tournament winning turbo duelist - to the point where once again, a single card is the deciding factor. that's right: she nearly won. if not for a single trap card, aki izayoi would've won.
a fierce duelist who was shaped into a loving, caring woman despite years of being beaten down by the world: aki izayoi. vote for her now on your phones.

Yugioh decks usually can say a lot about their owner .. what do you think that Ryoken or better to say Revolver's deck says about him?
It's one of my favourite things about Yugioh actually; A character's deck, and even their ace monsters, can say a lot of very interesting things about them.
I will admit I haven't put a lot of thought into Revolver's archetype in relation to his character before, but changing that was very fun and I had a surprising amount of interesting things to talk about.
You can break down Revolver's deck into two basic themes: Dragons and guns. Combine them and boom, you've got Rokkets and Borrel monsters.
You have the obvious connection between his LV username 'Revolver', which is a gun that can hold six bullets (one for every Ignis). Dragons are a Yugioh staple, especially among the rivals, and typically associated with strength, ferocity, and guarding something valuable. For past rivals who use dragons like Kaiba and Kaito that last part makes sense, as older brothers who love their younger siblings very much. Applying this to Ryoken can mean how he's the metaphorical guardian of The Lost Incident and keeper of its secrets, and at the end the literal guardian of the network. Strength and ferocity he has in spades, often depicted as a figure who is far above other characters in terms of skill and knowledge.
Guns though.... I mean they're pretty straightforward. They're a tool used to kill. Which isn't an inaccurate way to describe Revolver in S1. He sees himself as a tool to accomplish Hanoi's, but mostly his father's goal. And that goal is the annihilation of living creatures. And in the finale he's the literal trigger standing between the destruction of the internet. Ryoken keeping his promise to not pull that trigger, I think, then serves as a good indication of where his character will go from there. Now, Revolver is not a weapon wielded solely for someone else's ambition, but for himself and his wants.
And is that not a very similar way Rokkets are played? Rokket monsters have different effects that trigger upon being targeted by a Link monster, such as destroying a monster on the field or the extra deck, backrow destruction, or everything in one column. That, I think, is what Revolver is doing post-S1; Directing his destructive powers to be the most effective and beneficial for not only himself, but for people he cares for in some way.
That Rokkets destroys themselves is relevant as well. Revolver is perfectly fine making himself the target of people's ire and hatred, even if it's not warranted or justified. He was willing to die for his mission in the S1 finale. And ofc famously no one hates Kogami Ryoken as much as Kogami Ryoken. But it's a self-destruction for the sake of something, not just self-destruction fueled by self-hatred. It fits with Revolver's knight theming, to fight and act for something greater than oneself. Which is also what the Rokket monsters do; they destroy themselves when targeted in order to fulfill a objective.
Then we come around to Rokkets other noteworthy effect; at the end of your turn, they can special summon other Rokkets from the deck if they are in the graveyard because their beforementioned effect was activated. Revolver is as tenacious as they come, and equally resourceful. Even after losing to Playmaker, what he's hung up on is not that he was defeated, but Playmaker's identity. He swears he will win next time, and that's that.
Revolver is also notably efficient in building up forces and gather power for his goals. He builds the Knights of Hanoi back up in S2, even breaking Kyoko out of a high security prison so they will be at full power. Revolver is the one to gather the scattered characters into one group to work together to defeat Lightning. To say he knows how to use people is a misleading term, but he's very perceptive and knows how to best make them cooperate. It doesn't always work, but no one is unaffected by his attempts either.
All this can be related to the Borrel line of extra deck monsters, whose effects are in part used to activate the Rokket monsters own effects. Revolver knows how to pull out people's strength, and sometimes he does it without meaning to (looking at Playmaker). Borrel monsters also commonly have effects to negate or counter effect activation, and also raise their own attack. They're pretty overwhelming monsters that in the real life cardgame overtake the Rokket archetype and are used in decks without them. Revolver is a very overwhelming presence in the show, as a duelist and character. He doesn't enter a scene without stirring some shit up.
And of course Revolver's use of old trap cards showcases his resourcefullness, his ability to find an advantage in even the most unlikely of places, and that he's still 18 years old and can be just as much of a little shit as anyone else.

Slamming and locking it behind him
"He has a stick up his ass"
"Mokuba, I would tell you off for that foul mouth but that's so true" you looked down at him
He looked up at you
"Spaghetti? Cut tiny?"
"Yes, please" he looks back at his deck of cards, scattered across the ground, looked like one of them lost
"I'll help you but I'll go prepare the pots first"
He won't admit it but he enjoys your company

happy birthday kaiba beloved
I had to give up on my pipe dream of finishing this absolute monster of a fic in time for his birthday LOL new scenes keep popping up when I think I've finished a big chunk... like a hydra...
but I can't let his birthday pass without posting anything so >_< here is the opening of the fic, subject to change a bit LOL. most biggest of giant shoutouts to @moonogre for reading my draft despite it being filled with holes and for loving it and cheering me on you are the realest one <3
(kaiba i'm sorry that you are just annoyed about everything happening to you here I promise it gets better later when you have some Character Development TT_TT)
Seto doesn’t have nightmares often anymore. But when he does, they’re always about the same thing: Mokuba. More specifically, Mokuba missing, in peril, in pain.
He hasn’t seen his younger sibling yet in this dream, but a dreadful certainty grips him, one that tells him if he doesn’t find Mokuba fast, something terrible will happen to them. Frantic, he runs through unfamiliar terrain that shifts and warps about him, calling Mokuba’s name over and over to no avail.
Until without warning, Mokuba appears within view, and with them the scene before Seto becomes very familiar; it’s not the first time he’s witnessed it, nor is it the second.
The five-headed dragon looms, poised to strike Mokuba, whose eyes are wide with surprise and terror. Seto knows what will happen next. The dragon’s jaws will stretch wide, then let loose a beam of energy that will streak towards his defenseless younger sibling. Both Seto and Mokuba will watch, rooted to the spot, until at the last second Joey Wheeler will throw his body into the path of the strike and disappear on impact. Seto had never felt more grateful to anyone than he had at that moment, and it had only made him hate Joey Wheeler all the more.
Wheeler is the very picture of an older brother, all warmth and selfless instinct, and it isn’t limited to his sister. He looks out for her, for Yugi and his other friends, even for people who have actively tried to kill him. And, yes, he looks out for Mokuba. Seto hates him for it, naturally. But he also trusts Wheeler more than he would ever admit to his face.
So he knows Mokuba will be safe from this attack. The dragon opens each of its five maws, a synchronized growl building in its throats, until, with a roar that reverberates deep in Seto’s core, it unleashes a blindingly powerful blast. And sure enough, Wheeler appears, blazing like a sunrise as it bleeds over the horizon. He and Mokuba both flinch as the blow lands, but while Wheeler’s body dissolves, Mokuba remains unscathed.
Mokuba turns to face Seto, their eyes filled with tears and distress, but there’s something else buried beneath it: betrayal. That Seto had allowed Wheeler’s sacrifice. That he hadn’t done so first. The image fractures, and dozens of copies of Mokuba accuse him with their existences. Mokuba on their knees on the floor after being struck. Mokuba sulking after Seto snaps at them in a fit of stress or anger. Mokuba confronting Seto after his victory, reminding him how twisted and broken he is.
They - the original, he thinks - turn away from Seto to stare at the spot where Wheeler had last stood. He reaches out for them; whether he could have made it, he doesn’t know, because his phone’s grating ringtone jolts him awake.
Still half-asleep, Seto fumbles for his phone and accepts the call. Leftover emotions from the fading dream fester in his chest, and the bitterness overflows, dripping from his mouth when he answers. “Do you have any idea what time it is,” he snaps flatly, not caring who’s on the receiving end of his ire.
“It’s 5:30 in the morning, Mr. Kaiba,” comes his secretary’s smooth response. No sooner are the words out of her mouth than Kaiba’s alarm goes off, proving her right. He curses under his breath as he shuts the alarm off.
“And just what could be important enough for you to call me at 5:30 in the morning?” he asks. Though his tone is hostile, he’s sure she’ll have a satisfactory answer. His secretary is very good at what she does, as evidenced by how put together she sounds at this time of the morning. Seto, meanwhile, doesn’t have enough of his wits about him to even begin to guess what could be so important.
“Damon Graves wants to have dinner with you this evening.”
Seto inhales sharply. He’s been trying to facilitate a meeting with the CEO of Graves Entertainment for months on end, and finally the fruits of his labor have paid off - on the worst possible day they could have.
“What time?” he tries, hoping that this man’s definition of “evening” is some ridiculously early or late time.
“Around six o’clock, sir.”
Seto grits his teeth. “I’m afraid that won’t be possible. You’ll have to reschedule it for me.”
“No can do, sir,” she responds immediately. “Mr. Graves informed me that he’ll be between flights at this time. You either meet with him today, or wait another two months for an opening in his schedule.”
“I’ll wait, then.”
His secretary pauses. “Are you sure that’s wise, Mr. Kaiba?”
He narrows his eyes. “What do you mean?”
“This man is very… particular. Trust me when I say that when he offered the choice of ‘now’ or ‘later’, it really wasn’t much of a choice at all.”
Seto blows out a slow, frustrated breath, pinching the bridge of his nose between his fingers. He absolutely does trust her in this matter, but the ‘choice’ in question isn’t as simple as she thinks it is.
It’s not a choice between doing business with this man or not. It’s a choice between this man or Mokuba.
Mokuba has been looking forward to this release event for weeks - and, ever since he had cleared his schedule and promised Mokuba they would go together, so has Seto. Despite the difficulties, Seto enjoys being the CEO of KaibaCorp; he enjoys the power and respect that come with the position, enjoys knowing that it’s his own hard work that earned him those things, and that he doesn’t have to rely on anyone else for them. But right now, all he wants is to be able to shed that responsibility like dead snakeskin, to pass it off to someone else and spend time with his younger sibling.
But he can’t, and he knows it. KaibaCorp’s success is what keeps himself and Mokuba powerful. Provided for. Safe.
Like his secretary said, it’s not much of a choice, at the end of the day. But Seto wonders if he shouldn’t have agonized over this decision more.
“Fine,” he says dully. “I’ll meet with him tonight. Let me know the details as soon as you’ve worked them out.”
“Understood, sir.”
Seto hangs up without fanfare and leans back against the pillows. A sour feeling permeates him as he tries to figure out how he’ll break the news to Mokuba. He can already picture it; their eyes, which will surely be shining with anticipation for the promised evening, dimming with disappointment when Seto tells them why, exactly, he won’t be able to make it.
That image - Mokuba’s distraught expression - tugs on the fading strands of the dream. Bitterness returns to him in a rush, amplified tenfold from what it had been before the call.
There’s only one thing he can think to do to make his failure up to Mokuba, but he’d almost rather give his company over to Pegasus. Almost.
Seto doesn't have Wheeler’s number saved in his contacts (why would he need it?), so he opens up the group chat that Yugi had invited him to. Though Seto rarely speaks up in it, and only ever to respond directly to Yugi, he meticulously keeps up with every message sent. Wheeler’s messages aren’t labeled with his name, only his number, but it’s obvious enough which ones are from him.
The first two calls Seto makes are rejected almost instantly. Wheeler finally picks up on the third attempt.
“I swear,” he snaps without so much as a greeting, “if this is some kinda scam or prank or what have ya, I’m gonna-”
“Wheeler.”
The line falls silent.
“Kaiba?” he finally asks, sounding in as much disbelief as Seto himself that this call has been placed. “The fuck d’you want at-” he pauses, groans, and continues - “quarter to six in the goddamn morning?”
“Are you free this evening?”
Wheeler splutters. “Am I fr- what? What for? Since when d’you call me up about my Saturday plans?”
“Since mine were derailed by a last-minute work meeting that can’t be rescheduled.”
“Oh, boo hoo,” Wheeler taunts. “Poor Mr. CEO’s gotta put a little work into running that big company of his. What a cryin’ shame. Look, whatever favor it is that you’re about to ask, count me out.”
Seto grits his teeth and resists the urge to hang up on Wheeler. “I was supposed to take Mokuba to the release event this evening.”
There’s another pause. When Wheeler next speaks, some of the hostility is gone from his voice. “The tag duelin’ one?”
“So you have been keeping up.”
Wheeler ignores the jab. “So, what, ya want me to take him instead?”
Seto swallows the urge to correct the pronoun and says simply, “I’ll pay you.”
“Woah, hang on, I didn’t say anything about…” Wheeler trails off, probably weighing his financial situation against Seto’s, and drops the subject. “Why me?” he asks instead. “Don’t you guys have servants for this kinda thing? A butler or whatever?”
Because our parents died so long ago that Mokuba doesn’t even remember them. Because I can’t even take one day off to spend time with Mokuba. Because there’s no one else who really cares about them.
All of these potential answers are painful, but the three word response he offers Wheeler hurts him just as much to admit aloud: “Mokuba likes you.”
Seto holds his breath as he waits out the longest pause yet. Finally, the line crackles as Wheeler lets out a gusty sigh. “What time?”
-----
Seto opens the door himself when Wheeler knocks on it. The two don’t bother to exchange pleasantries. Wheeler regards him with… not open hostility - they’ve maybe shared one too many traumatic experiences for that - but wariness, like a dog being introduced to a stranger for the first time. In a way, maybe he is; it’s been a long time since the two of them have actually spoken to one another in-person, and they’ve never done so at Seto’s home.
Wheeler finally breaks the silence. “There anything important I need to know?”
Seto frowns. “Important how?”
“Rules. Allergies. Bedtime. That kinda thing.”
“You’re not a babysitter, Wheeler. Mokuba’s old enough to take care of… himself.” He hesitates over the pronoun; misgendering Mokuba rankles him, but he doesn’t want to out them, either. As far as Seto knows, he’s the only person Mokuba has told.
“Isn’t the kid, like, thirteen? I know I coulda used some adult supervision at that age.”
“Mokuba’s seventeen, you moron.”
“Seriously?” Wheeler’s brow furrows. “He’s even shorter’n Yugi.”
“And that is precisely why you should know better than to judge a child’s age by their height.”
Wheeler raises an eyebrow. “So, if he’s practically an adult anyway, what exactly are you payin’ me for here?”
Oh, right. He had promised to pay this moron, hadn’t he? “It’s a tag duel. I’m paying you to be Mokuba’s teammate.”
“Right.” Wheeler rolls his eyes. “At least answer the allergies question. If I’m gonna be feedin’ the kid, I don’t wanna accidentally kill him and have you on my ass about it for the rest of my life.”
Seto scowls. “Mokuba’s not allergic to anything.”
“There, see? Wasn’t so hard now, was it?”
Before Seto can retort, Mokuba enters the room, and their face lights up. “Joey!”
Wheeler’s whole demeanor changes. “Hey, Mokuba!” he calls. The two cross the room to meet each other. As Seto glowers on, Wheeler gets his younger sibling into a gentle headlock; Mokuba laughs as Wheeler gives them an affectionate noogie before letting go. “You ever done one ‘a these things before?”
“I’ve done a few small local tournaments,” Mokuba says. “Never a tag duel before, though.”
“How ‘bout a draft duel?”
“What’s a draft duel?”
Wheeler laughs. “It’s what we’re goin’ to right now.”
“It is?” Mokuba’s eyes widen. “I, uh. Didn’t read the info too closely.”
“Don’t you worry, kid,” Wheeler says, throwing an arm around Mokuba’s shoulders. “Your old pal Joey Wheeler is a seasoned card shop veteran. C’mon, I’ll explain how it works on the way over. We gotta get goin’ if we don’t wanna miss it.”
Mokuba pauses briefly on their way out to wrap their arms tightly around Seto. “Bye, Seto,” they whisper. “Good luck at your business dinner thing.”
“Good luck to you too,” Seto murmurs, squeezing gently back. “Don’t listen to Wheeler if he tells you to do anything stupid.”
“I heard that.”
“Hey,” Mokuba says, releasing Seto, “he said ‘if’, not ‘when’. I think that’s an improvement.”
“Merely a slip of the tongue on my part.”
“So he admits he makes mistakes!” Wheeler raises his eyebrows. “I think your brother’s gettin’ soft in his old age, Mokuba.”
Seto scowls. “I’m twenty-one years old.”
“So, older’n me.” Wheeler grins lopsidedly, and it needles Seto that Mokuba laughs so easily alongside him. “Just leave the duellin’ to us youngsters, Gramps. We’ll bring home a trophy to remind ya of your glory days.”
The remark hits a little too close. It’s been over a year since Seto last participated in any kind of official duel - which isn’t all that much time, but at the speed Duel Monsters moves, it’s practically ancient history. Seto thinks at first that it was a calculated jab on Wheeler’s part; but he’s missing that expression he usually wears when he goes toe-to-toe with Seto, the one where his eyes burn like lasers, white-hot and focused unwaveringly on Seto, drawing a retaliation out of him without fail every time. Instead, his attention is focused on amusing Mokuba with his antics.
And so, for Mokuba’s sake, Seto swallows the remark rising in his throat. At least I have glory days to revisit, Wheeler.
“Whatever,” he says instead, stiffly. “Roland’s ready for you two with the car.”
Seto hides his envy behind a mask of indifference as he watches them go.

As you know Chazz is my baby boy, my cinnamon apple, so to see you mention that the DM crew adopt him immediately makes me so happy.
I know you haven't seen season 4 but Chazz is probably the most understanding of the og friend squad about Jaden's trauma and AAHH I just love him and he deserves good friends and people who care about him so it makes me so happy 🤣
My and my friends also joked about how Chazz and Jaden's rivalry feels more like a sibling rivalry then anything so the idea of him becoming Jaden's unofficial brother is one I hold dear to my heart!!
Love the au as always!! Keep up the amazing work!!
No I’m really loving Chazz in my rewatch.
He just needs to be around people who make him feel safe. He needs to know it’s okay for him to be silly. Because he is silly.
But his brothers pout so much pressure on him and wouldn’t accept anything but perfection out of him. It wasn’t a safe environment.
He’s so used to trying to be ‘A Princeton’ that I don’t think he evened learned to be Chazz. Until Jaden and North Academy, until he returned to Duel Academy and made friends with the people there.
Jaden telling his brothers off after their duel is a big deal and I’m pretty close to watching the episode where Chazz’s brothers come back and I’m excited because I don’t remember that episode at all.
But ya after three years together Jaden and Chazz go through a lot. Because he’s ’the rival’ he’s more active than most of the other characters. Meaning he’s actually helping Jaden. He’s not standing by his side the way Joey or Kaiba do for Yugi when they face major villains. But he is helping. (I’m thinking about the end of Season 2 where Jaden is fighting for the world and Chazz is just kicking the cult off of campus. They aren’t ’working together’ but that is a huge weight lifted off of Jaden. He can focus on saving the world while Chazz saves their friends/school.)
And your right the way they talk to each other and interact is way more like brothers who push each other’s buttons/push each other to be better.
So ya once they graduate and all run back into each other at some torment held in Domino.
Jaden and the others are all talking and they all go their separate ways for the night.
Syrus and Zane have a hotel room together.
Atticus and Alexis do as well. They actually booked in the same hotel so it’s a sibling party!
Hassleberry has loggings at a different hotel but it’s okay because it turns out that’s where Jim and Axel are staying. They all ask where
Jaden is staying and he’s just like “with my dads they living here.” And while people are suprised since Jaden didn’t mention living in Domino the last time they were here there was also a crazy cult and it’s Jaden so they all shake it off without asking to many questions (please ask questions, maybe who are your parents or what do they do?)
Jesse isn’t arriving until the next day but Jaden already invited him to stay at the manor. Perks of being the one ‘friend’ who knows who Jaden is.
The others all walk away and Jaden turns to Chazz who hasn’t said anything yet. “So what fancy hotel you staying at?” Jaden teases knowing his friend only likes the best of the best.
But Chazz has been financially cut off by his brothers and the pro leagues haven’t started up yet for the season so he hasn’t been paid yet. He came to the tournament because his friends were talking about it in the group chat and he wanted to see them and to hopefully win some money. He wasn’t planning on telling anyone about his situation. No one else asked. But here’s Jaden asking him where he’s staying for the night. Jaden who has a home here….
At first he tries to lie and say ‘ya I got a room at the best place.” Jaden is like great I’ll walk you there.” The city is big and can be dangerous, Jaden doesn’t want his friend walking alone. But he also has eyes and has been traveling a lot himself recently he can tell it’s been a while since his friend has had a good nights sleep.
Chazz tries to refuse but Jaden is stubborn and finally Chazz cracks and tells him. “My brothers cut me off okay! I don’t have anywhere to go so if you would just leave me alone.” And no Jaden’s having none of that. He was planning on telling everyone at some point during the tournament about his family. Might as well start now.
He grabs chases arm and starts pulling him. “What are you doing you slacker unhand me!” But Jaden is not listening and pulls out his phone.
“Hey Oto-san can you send the car to my location. Also I’m bringing a friend home…. Ya everything is okay he just needs a place to stay…. It’s Chazz and his brothers are being jerks again….Thanks Oto-san love you.”
Chazz can only hear half the conversation but he’s put somethings together. 1) Jaden comes from money if his parents are “sending the car” so all the times he called Jaden poor were not correct. 2) he’s apparently staying with Jaden. 3) Jaden’s parents know his brothers are ‘jerks’
Before the can truly process any of that Jaden turns to him and give one of those small smiles he gives now not the mega watt grin he used to have but a rare soft smile. “You’re going to stay with me. Don’t worry my family’s going to love you.”
Chazz wants to argue but where else is he going to go. Besides how bad can a family full of Jaden’s be… on second thought maybe he’ll sleep under a bridge.
Too late the cars here and it’s fancy. Like nicer than what his brothers and him used to call…. Oh so not only is Jaden not poor, he’s richer than the Princetons. Okay Chazz didn’t not read this kid right at all. But to be fair what rich kid is excited to stay at the Slifer dorms? (These two rich kids)
They take the ride to Jaden’s and Chazz is trying to make himself look presentable. He wants to make a good impression. This is Jaden’s family after all. And while he’s not Jaden’s best friend, Jaden is his. And they are being kind enough to let him stay. Jaden is talking softly about different places they should visit while in town and trying to distract his anxious friend. Chazz is so in his own head/distracted by Jaden he doesn’t even realize they are at their destination until Jaden goes “oh we’re here.” And jumps out of the car.
Chazz follows, and almost falls down when he sees Kaiba Manor in front of him. ‘There is no way that Jaden is…. No he would have know that…but” Chazz is having a crisis.
Jaden is already walking up the stairs when he notices Chazz isn’t following him. He turns around and head back to his friend. “Uh Chazz are you alright?”
Chazz slowly turns to look at him. “You’re the Prince of Duels.” It’s not a question.
Suddenly Jaden is nervous. He should have told Chazz in the ride over but his friend had looked pretty stressed. “Um ya I am, though I don’t really like going by that title.” Jaden said as he rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.
Chazz opens his mouth and closes it a few times as he processed… everything. He doesn’t get long as the front door is thrown open and Yugi Muto, the King of Games, comes out and runs to Jaden. “Jaden! It’s good to have you home.” He calls as he pulls his son!!! Into a hug and oh wow this is really real now. Chazz is standing in front of Thee Kaiba Manor with the King and Prince of Games right next to him. His brain might melt out of his ears. Yugi then turns to him and smiles. “You must be Chazz. Jaden’s told me a lot about you.”
And Chazz’s brain kicks back in. The King of Games has heard of him!! He bows quickly and lowly to show respect. “Yes Sir. It’s an honor to meet you.” Then his brain kicks back in. He raises his head to look at Jaden through his bangs. “Jaden. Why didn’t you tell us about this?” And he is hurt and a little mad. He’s trusted Jaden with a lot of information about his family and his life and it hurts to know his friend didn’t trust him in the same way.
Jaden tenses. His friend is mad at him. Jaden has done a lot of things. He’s failed to listen to and protect his friends in the dark world. He’s struggled with the guilt of his actions and his PTSD for the whole year. He’s had anxiety and PTSD since freshman year. And he’s always been afraid that his friend would hate him once he told them. He could have saved them all so much pain if he just let his family take care of all of their problems. But then his family would have been in danger. He tried his best to protect everyone and he always came up short.
Yugi feels Jaden tense and is about to go into over protective dad mode. He is very aware how badly revealing Jaden’s identity could go.
Jaden speaks before he can. “I- I was scared that people would treat me different.” It’s a weak response and Jaden is ashamed that he failed to protect everyone and chose to protect himself instead (no Jaden bad) and he’s expecting Chazz to tell him off
But Chazz can see how small Jaden is making himself. He also knows about family pressure and having to present yourself a certain way because it’s what people expect from you. He also knows how desperately he hid his connections to his duel spirits because he didn’t want to be seen as different. “That makes sense.” He says as he straightens up. He can physically see Jaden and Yugi relaxing and figures he said the right thing.
Then another thought hits him and he grabs Jaden by the shoulders startling the poor boy. “Who else knows?”
Jaden looks at his with a small hint of fear in his eyes. “Um well Chumley found out the summer before our second year.”
“Chumley knew before me!” Chazz is furious. How did Chumley earn Jaden’s trust faster than him. What did he do wrong (note Chazz’s fury is at his own short comings not Jaden but Jaden is seeing it as him being mad at him)
“I didn’t tell him he came to Kaiba Corp with Pegasus and we ran into each other.” Jaden tried to justify.
Chazz’s fury seems quelled by that. “Well that makes sense, it was an accident. Any one else.”
“Um Jesse.” Jaden says nervously.
And Chazz wants to be outrage, because Jesse only knew Jaden for a year, but honestly that tracks. “Sound right. Anyone else?”
“Um no you’re the second person I told.” And Chazz puffs up with pride at that. He’s the second. Not Syrus or Hasselberry who claim to be Jaden’s best friend, not sweet Alexis. The Chazz got to know before any of them. Maybe Jaden does see him as his best friend to, after he can see that Jaden and Jesse are on the fast track to more than friends.
Then a wicked idea comes to him. He send Jaden a Cheshire Cat grin. “So Dr. Crowler doesn’t know yet?”
Yugi who had been watching the whole exchange starts laughing. Because okay there is nothing to worry about with this kid.
Jaden matches Chazz’s smile. “Nope not a clue.”
“Oh this is going to be awesome.” Chazz cackles “you have to tell him in front of me. I have to be there for this.”
And now their all laughing and Jaden grabs his friends hand. His friend who isn’t mad at him for keeping a secret from him and is treating Jaden the same as he always has. “Sure thing. But first come meet the rest of my family.”
And suddenly Chazz is nervous again. He’s about to meet some of the biggest names in dueling. But Jaden is smiling at him, really smiling and theirs a hand in his shoulder. He turns to see Yugi with a gentle smile on his face. “Don’t worry. Jaden’s told us all about you. They’re excited to finally meet The Chazz.” And Chazz is over whelmed because Yugi is being so nice to him. And then they walk inside and Yugi pass him with a little “welcome home” and oh. Oh he hasn’t had that before.

Best Big Brother in Yugioh
The family relationships is one of the best parts of the Yugioh series for me, with a lot of the rivals being big brothers. Hence this fun poll!
I only watched the first four shows hence why I am only going up to Zexal. I excluded twins, middle children, and filler characters. That's why Shark, Rua, Thomas, Zigfried von Schroeder and Amelda are not here. Rua and Shark act like big brothers but the dynamic is not quite the same as the others here. Thomas is a big brother to III but he is also a younger brother to V so he has middle kid syndrome. I was adding the filler character but I ran out of space lol.
Note:
Someone can be horrible to others and still be a good brother, so villains/antagonists can be good big brothers.
I am hoping for an objective, third-person opinion of the character. Meaning this is not about how the younger sibling feels about their brother but instead a critique on how well the brother actually loves his sibling. Sometimes siblings look at their brothers with rose-tinted glasses after all.
Propaganda
Personally, as much as I love Kaiba, my fav big brother has to be Jonounchi! The way how Joey treats women overall is so precious and he adores Serenity so much it hurts. Even better, Jonouchi never hurt other people or became a worse person for his sister's benefit. I really like the idea of a down-to-earth boy like Joey having a sweet baby sister instead of a brother like most of the guys on this list.

EDGELORD BATTLE BRACKET 2024: ROUND 2
Propaganda:
Seto Kaiba:
Seto Kaiba is an orphan. He's also a billionaire. He's all alone and nobody understands him. He also has a devoted younger brother and a whole gaming company. At one point he and his brother sunk an artificial island to prove a point. He has beef with a ghost. He has a jetpack. And a private jet. Both of these are shaped like a dragon. Specifically one dragon, blue eyes white dragon. Because he is in love with the dragon. The dragon is a card. He is in love with a card.
His abusive adoptive father committed suicide after he beat him a chess. The main character trapped him in a card for being a bit of a dick. Despite most people never recovering from punishment games Kaiba comes back; hes much worse. He makes a whole death game amusement park to kill his classmate in revenge. He makes this whole deal a day 1 attraction for people to watch. He then gets trapped in ANOTHER punishment game, a mind puzzle to find his true self, and comes back AGAIN through sheer force of will. His true self is not in anyway less evil. Its arguably worse than his first appearance but hes not trying to kill the protag anymore so we dont care. Hes arguably NOT the edgiest character in Yu-Gi-Oh.
Metal Sonic:
somewhat the blueprint for our reigning edgelord. a robot copy that thinks he's the original and HATES the real thing. when he rebels he first takes on a spikier form as neo metal sonic, complete with studded belt and black cape.. his end goal is called METAL OVERLORD and is a gigantic fucked up dragon robot. besides that he normally can't talk and i feel like the amount of inferred seething you get from his red glowy eyes is something special. he has sharp little hands and the way he swipes at people with them tells me he WANTS TO STAB SO BADLY. he's my special little guy.

Whatever, but at least make Kaiba Seto lose to the reader in a match
Why did you send this twice anon
But, your wish is my command
• ───────────────── •
Content: Seto Kaiba x gn!Reader
Warnings: None
Notes: I did this as a warm-up, so its pretty short. If you want a part two where they reconcile, just send in the ask and I shall get to it when I can. Thank you!
• ───────────────── •
You watched Seto's life points drop to zero, and the holograms projecting your monsters and trap cards disappeared. Seto froze, but his fists remained shaky. His adopted fathers words rang in his head... to fail is to die, Seto.
He felt his heart skip a beat when his life points made that God awful sound, signaling he had dropped to zero. He never thought his partner could beat him in duel monsters. The arena stands slowly lowered them both to the ground, where Mokuba was watching. He loved you, but he loved his brother more.
Mokuba ran to Seto, yelling for him all the way. Seto was still frozen in shock, staring right at you. You felt bad, but at the same time glad to know all that time learning duel monsters has paid off. You began to walk over to him, and that's when you realized he had a hundred yard stare, instead of staring straight at you.
Mokuba tried shaking the sense back into Seto, but it reminded him too much of his first duel with Yugi, where he went into a coma. Mokuba felt tears well up in his eyes. As you approached Seto, Mokuba whipped around and suddenly turned on you.
"Don't you dare come any closer!"
"What? Mokuba, it's all just a game, I'm here to help-"
"No! You stay away from my brother! Get out!" Mokuba's tears fell down his cheeks.
You looked over at Seto, who continued not to look at you. His cards still laid on the virtual board. If Seto was going to act like a sore loser, then maybe you should just leave.
"Fine." And with that, you turned and left the area all together.

Reupdating my Yu-Gi-Oh Headcanons list
All my headcanons are from the Duel Monsters portion of the series, most of which are influenced by the anime and personal thoughts and ideas.
Atem has a thing for anything strawberry. Strawberry drinks, baked goods, artisan goods, you name it. If it's got strawberry, Atem will almost certainly eat it. Even as Yami, he would take over Yugi's body sometimes to enjoy strawberry flavors(Yugi thought it was silly but also was happy Yami had something he liked)
Of course, my headcanon of Kaiba treating Yugi like a second little brother after Atem departs. Seriously, Yugi becoming an unofficial Kaiba brother because of Seto's love for Atem and feeling bad that Yugi doesn't have his own big brother now is something that feeds me life.
Atem's last name is Sennen. His full name is Atem Yami Sennen
Kaiba's full name is Seto Ryuuki Kaiba. Sometimes Atem calls Seto by his middle name, and Seto loves how whispery and velvety Atem says it.
Kaiba and Mokuba's birth surname is Konami. Their parents names were Sara and Akira(called Aki for short)
Kaiba and Atem are 100% gay and demi, Yugi is bisexual and nonbinary(goes by he/they pronouns)
Kaiba and Atem are both intersex, Kaiba's intersex biology allows for childbearing, but it's not something he likes to think about or really wants, as pregnancy means a loss of control over his own body, and Kaiba can't imagine not having control.
Atem eventually returns through magic nonsense and everyone is overjoyed to have him back (Yugi and Kaiba especially, for their own reasons)
Kaiba has a cat. Her name is Zahra and he adopts her from a shelter not long after the Ceremonial Duel, telling Mokuba things are feeling a bit lonely and maybe a pet would help make their home a little less empty. Despite his cold exterior, Kaiba loves animals and would adopt every single one from every shelter in the world if he could.
Atem loves cats and hits it off with Zahra(Kaiba doesn't like that he's no longer her favorite person but Atem spoils her as much as he does so he supposes its fine), and for some reason, strays gravitate towards him and he occasionally comes home with a new cat in his arms, announcing. "Ryuuki, another one chose me!", and Kaiba just goes with it, loving how the mansion staff are now always kept on their toes by the MANY cats now running amok.
Kaiba's favorite of Atem's little cat herd(also called a clutter) is Luna, a pretty tortoiseshell with golden eyes and dainty white paws. She gets attached to him rather than Atem(much to Kaiba's delight)
Later down the line, Kaiba finds an abandoned corgi puppy. Unable to ignore the creature, he takes her home to Atem and their many cats. They name her Duchess as she quickly becomes a spoiled pup.
Yugi and Marik are a couple. I just think they're cute together. They'd eventually have a son(Kaiba helps them create their son by taking Yugi and Marik's DNA and making the baby in a tube in his lab. Because I'm absolutely certain Kaiba could do that sort of thing if he tried) and name him Atemu, after Atem. Because Yugi just loves his brother so much. (cue Uncle Atem shedding tears of joy), and when Atemu is 2, they have twins; a son and daughter named Toki and Tera.
Atem and Kaiba get married and Atem 100% is in charge of wedding planning cause he has better tastes than Kaiba when it comes to this sort of thing. And Atem convinces Seto to let him wear a dress for the wedding. Kaiba becomes Seto Kaiba-Sennen.
Kaiba and Atem eventually have twins unplanned, a daughter named Kaida and a son named Yami, both taking Atem's last name of Sennen. The pregnancy is full of complications for Kaiba due to his unique situation, and the changes to his body cause a lot of dysphoria, but Atem is always there for him when things get rough, knowing that Seto can get through this with the strength and grace he applies daily.
Joey becomes a KC Security Officer because he's "A good guard dog", according to Kaiba.
Tea becomes a successful dancer on Broadway, landing many lead roles. Yugi and friends are glad to see her follow her dreams, and occasionally, Kaiba will sponsor musicals and plays that Tea is in, his way of showing his friendship.
Tristan opens a martial arts and self defense studio, wanting to teach others how to protect themselves and the ones they care about.
Bakura begins to work for the museum, and always manages to rope Atem into helping during his free time, as Atem WAS an ancient Pharaoh.
Atem works graphic design for Kaiba Corp (he's a surprisingly good artist)
Yugi works at Kaiba Corp for the game development division. Sometimes he brings Atemu and Toki into the office with him, and he tries to coordinate dates where Kaida and Yami are brought in when Seto and Atem come to work so their kids can bond with each other. (Yugi wants his sons to have a deep connection with their cousins asap.)
Atemu looks a lot like his namesake uncle, thanks to the combo of Yugi's hair and Marik's complexion, but his eyes are Marik's lavender. Toki and Tera are pale like Yugi with soft, sandy-colored hair like Marik, and Yugi's amethyst eyes.
Kaida looks a lot like her father Atem, bearing his tri-tone hair, although the ends of hers are blue instead of red, she bears his darker complexion, and the shape of her eyes is quite similar to his. She gets Seto's blue eyes. Yami, however, is a mini Seto Kaiba with Atem's purple eyes. (the little guy has already mastered the 'Kaiba scowl')
Later down the line, Atem and Kaiba have two more kids. Ryuuki and Sara. Both kids have Atem's dark complexion. Sara's hair is black and wavy and she has Kaiba's blue eyes. Ryuuki, however, much like his brother Yami, has Kaiba's brown hair and Atem's amethyst eyes.
Mokuba absolutely adores his nieces and nephews, being sure to talk about them to anyone who will listen(or is forced to). He also spoils them whenever he can, wanting to give Kaida, Sara, Ryuuki and Yami the whole world, wanting them to have a childhood full of certainty and light, unlike what he and Seto had. Uncle Mokuba ftw.
Kaiba rebrands Kaiba Corporation to Sennen Corporation.
Joey eventually finds a nice girl and hooks up with her, and Atem, being a former Pharaoh, officiates Joey's wedding.
Joey soon becomes a dad, having four kids. Jack, Jana, Kaden, and Jacob. The little ones are a handful, having Joey's spirit and knack for trouble. And Kaiba says "Wheeler, the world had enough of you, why'd you add four more?" the first time he meets the kids. However is is quite fond of them, as his children have friends to grow up with.

I'll give you Yusaku for "Send me a Yugioh character" owo
AH. Ahaha. Oh my god, okay. So for context, your ask landed in my inbox exactly when I was struggling with formatting my "Yusaku birthday post." Which means it caught me at a point when I had even MORE feelings than I usually do for this boy. I apologise in advance: the answer about Kaiba may have been a wall of text, but I'm afraid this one will become a full skyscraper of text. So go grab some tea, coffee, biscuits, whatever makes you feel good for a break, then sit back and relax while I scream at you about how much I CARE for Yusaku Fujiki.
(Whatever happens remember that you asked for it.) (Thank you so much for this, too, even if I've spent a good part of my afternoon and all my evening and part of my night on it.) (By the way at this point I really won't feel insulted if no one reads it to the end, I think I mostly need to get it all out of my system.)
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD, in the form of headcanons and personal analyses of Yusaku's character and his relationships, along with multiple screenshots, gif, videos, all hidden behind the excuse of an ask meme (so it's still superficial in many parts, but I feel like it's a good overview.) I'm putting it all behind a cut since I know how to use them now. (Or do I? It's the 4th time I edit to put the cut back to the place it's meant to be at.)
----------- Also, keeping track so I stop getting lost in my own blog: The original Ask meme Seto Kaiba Spectre Aoi Zaizen I still answer for other characters so long as they're from DM or Vrains!
Why I like him/why I don’t
I think it's Yusaku's resilience that I like the most. He can be no-nonsense and harsh, but he's always honest, and he always stands up. It's striking, actually, how he always manages to keep standing.
He's thrown to the ground by life, by his enemies (interestingly, many declare they are his enemies when he's not even TRYING to alienate them, and just doesn't really care.) Even his allies are the reason why he ends up beaten up sometimes. And yet, he always get back up. It's very rare to see him fully crash, which makes it even more impactful when he does.
I'm just fascinated at how even at his lowest, at the biggest blows he receives, he stands up. His strive for life is remarkable, so much so that it sometimes almost feels like a curse. Just the same way he keeps winning and winning, because he's good, of course, but also because losing is not an option. He has to stand up and he keeps doing it for himself, for others, and still manages to feel guilty for not doing enough.
(I'm afraid you'll have to do with my French subtitles, I am NOT trying to find other streams just to make screencaps, these ones were hard enough to find.)
"Sorry, Kusanagi, your brother Jin has been taken and Lightning is menacing humanity and all of this is because I'm not strong enough."
Yusaku, FFS.
This is all heavily linked to the other aspect of his character I love most: Yusaku is so human. He's filled with hope. In one of the episodes of season 3, Revolver tells him to "stop thinking with his naive optimism".
And Playmaker clearly doesn't like it, look at this face.
But he still holds onto it until the end. He's not giving up until he's forced to (and even when it's done, he takes off and tries to find solutions.)
And Yusaku cares, he cares so much. He may seem heinous and gratuitously savage with the way he shuns Shima or Ai, but you have to go beyond the words. When Shima is captured, he literally runs to his rescue, barely waiting for the van to stop before he jumps out of it to check on his classmate. Shima and other people around, no matter how annoying, will also give occasional encouragements (often hidden behind a layer of backhanded compliments, because that's how Yusaku rolls.)
Yusaku makes sure that people around him are feeling alright. He comforts them. He may not use the nicest words, he has the sensitivity of an elephant let loose in a fine china shop, but his words usually strike right where they should. He helps. He gives a lot of himself for this, apparently not caring what other people think of it.
Goddamnit, Yusaku. Why are you trying to make me cry.
And this, actually, paradoxically, might be the only thing I dislike for him. It's not even about HIM per se (he may not be perfect but I am able to admit I'm too biased to not have a hard time finding him any flaws.) It's the way he gives so much of himself for everyone leads not only to people relying on him a lot, they also tend to take him for granted. And it pisses me off. Yusaku doesn't really fight against it, which, understandable considering his character, his backstory, everything. But sometimes I wish he could stop being the hero of Link VRAINS, because he's spreading himself too thin, and he had to break at some point. Or multiple times.
What I like about his appearance
I am trying SO hard to stop myself from waxing all kinds of poetics on him, so for this once I'll go with the most obvious: his EYES.
(Yes this was all a shameless excuse to flood you with close-ups of Yusaku and Playmaker's beautiful, vibrant eyes.)
The colour is striking, of course, especially in contrast with his or Playmaker's hair. But also, for someone meant to be aloof and stoic, Yusaku's eyes are hella expressive. His eyebrows only emphasise it, and actually, this is another trait I really like: Playmaker's eyebrows are orange. Playmaker is a real red-head! It makes me irrationally happy. It's the little details, folks, and Yusaku definitely pays more attention to them than most would expect.
And the second aspect of his appearance I just can't omiss...
...Well, that's his smile, of course! If only he had reasons to smile more often. Look at him; no matter how terrible the situation, he manages to smile.
This one is from when he says goodbye to Kusanagi before the final duel agains Ai. It's honestly quite tragic, but here he is. Smiling. Why is no one in this series protecting this smile. What are they all DOING.
Anyway, I've been writing for way too long already and I still have TOO MUCH to say so that's it for the appearance. He's adorable, he's beautiful, he's gorgeous.
Do I prefer his dub names or original names?
You'd think the question is not relevant since his name is the same in both, BUT. There's actually a massive difference. I can't take the dub version's stressed Yu'SAku seriously when in Japanese it's very clearly 'YUUsaku. Also, watching parts of the dub has been very amusing once I accepted that it was a parody, but there's not much to keep. Not even the pronunciation of a name. So I'm going with original, no hesitation.
OTP
Okay, another obvious one. If you've been following me you have noticed the ridiculous amount of Datastormshipping I put in your feed.
Evil smile besties ftw.
And YET.
It's so hard to ship them seriously. There's so much to repair. I can't see them all lovey-dovey, they have to work for it, and work HARD. Because Playmaker is just... so completely defanged when he's in front of Revolver. And Revolver, while actually acting in the shadow to support Playmaker so many times in the course of 120 episodes, never spares him a kind word, a nice face, except when he thinks he's dying.
I suspect he's not doing it consciously, but the way Revolver behaves makes me feel like he takes Playmaker for granted. It makes sense, considering their backstory: Revolver has obsessed over Playmaker and endangered people he cared about because of it. He has also proved multiple times that he is very intent to shoulder the full blame for an incident he had not much to do about, so he'd rather keep Playmaker and his "stupid faith in him" at a distance. But Revolver is also Playmaker's saviour, which makes it so Playmaker trusts him and can follow him blindly no matter what.
Eloquent: everyone is wary to follow, but Playmaker is first in line, not a hint of hesitation in spite of having no idea of what lies behind the portal.
For this reason, I'm actually happy with the Revolver event in Duel Links, in spite of all its writing flaws.
In the event, Playmaker feels Revolver with his Link Sense even before he arrives, which shows that he's still VERY attuned to Revolver. And in spite of this clear bond, Playmaker really stands against Revolver and asserts his beliefs with no room for negociation, something he hasn't done since the Tower of Hanoi (...and even then, arguably, he was trying to negociate.) He is not yielding no matter how important Revolver might be for him. And, at the end of the event, Revolver seems to be relieved to have met such resistance. He even sounds sort of supportive? It's open to interpretation, but my feeling was that he actually approved of Playmaker's doing and encouraged him. The Ghost Gal and Spectre events that followed emphasised it for me. They're clearly not fighting anymore, but they also don't have this weird blind spot for each other anymore.
With this approach, I feel like they'd have better roots for a relationship that would not lean towards codependence or other unhealthy bases.
Don't get me wrong, I adore the fluff, and Datastormshipping really is the obvious end goal for me, but for this ship what I love most is them having to work for it. Because even if they clearly trust each other, Yusaku will have to learn to NOT give all of himself blindly, and Ryoken will need to learn to actively LISTEN to Yusaku, and even make him speak.
(As a quick parenthesis, because I'll get back to this topic later and I'd rather not leave any ambiguity: as much as I resent him for his treatment of Yusaku, I absolutely adore Revolver, in this terrible love/hate dynamic that makes me hate to love him and love to hate him. In spite of everything, or maybe DUE to all of this, I really like his character. I'm not sure I'll ever write deep meta about him, though, because he's already had a lot written about him and I doubt I have much more to bring to discussions that happened years ago. But who know what time will bring? Anyway, Datastormshipping FTW.)
NOTP
BEWARE: unpopular opinion ahead. I actually can't see Aiballshipping.
Again, don't get me wrong: I see where the shippers come from, and I really don't hate the ship! I've read multiple doujin and fanfictions, I enjoy the content, I enjoy the art, I love the analyses of the ship... But I can't see it, because for me, it goes beyond a romantic relationship. Ai is literally a part of Yusaku. Him and Yusaku are a package, in a way: if someone wants to be with Yusaku, they'll also have to be with Ai. If someone says Yusaku "It's Ai or me", they'd better not expect to be chosen. I understand Aiballshipping. I like reading takes on it, I like reading stories about it. But to me, what Ai and Yusaku have is not romantic. It's something obvious, a given, almost fusional. They don't kiss; they can communicate without saying a word. (Even if they spend their time throwing jabs at each other out loud.) Any other romantic relationship will come in addition to it, without being replaced by it. So I don't "ship" it. It's very much not an OTP. I have no idea which verb I could use for it, though, because I'm not really sure it can be considered queerplatonic either.

Di-sas-ter-ship-ping! It's actually my main ship, even if there's not a lot of content. Sure, if we want to make it work in a nice healthy way, it's going to be quite the challenge. BUT not everything has to be serious and reasonable or even believable (I have datastormshipping for this) and seriously, the dynamic between these three has so much potential for wholesomeness, stupid arguments and general chaos. It's called disastershipping for a reason. (Not only this, I know, but still.)
Look at them, their smug poses and their stupidly form-fitting costumes. What could go wrong, right? <3
Favourite card he uses
Contrary to my answer re: Kaiba's deck, this time I am familiar with Playmaker's deck, because I play it AND I actually watched his duels multiple times to understand how he uses it. The fact is that even if there's the usual "I magically draw the exact card I need and use if without even looking at it" effect that is characteristic to Yu-Gi-Oh animes, his deck is solid and it really allows different kind of combos to always find workaround. (Doesn't mean I don't brick often, but not everyone can be Playmaker.)
So I actually have TWO favourite cards. The first one is my little love, usually one of the first to join the field: Backup Secretary.
She's beauty, she's grace, she's always here to help me link summon my ace. She's easy to use. She may not be the best one, but I'm so happy to have her in my deck—three times. I have multiple other cards that allow me to bring her in my hand. She never stays long on the field, since her specialty is to help summoning various types of Code Talkers, but she's a life saver. And seriously her design is awesome.
And the second one is, in my amateur point of view (I need to write the disclaimer that while I'm not BAD at duelling, I'm not exactly GOOD either and I miss a lot, lot, lot of subtleties) one of the best cards in Playmaker's deck: Recoded Alive.
This card is a lifesaver. It has multiple effects for different situations. It helps me avoid having an empty field when my opponent's field is filled with monsters. It's a trap, and allows me to switch monsters when attacked if I use it during the opponent's turn. It allows me to bring another monster to the field and have another attacking monster if I play it during my own battle phase.
And even if we want to remain focused on Playmaker's storyline, it's one of the most important ones Yusaku plays in the anime. It's always here for him since the beginning, and it has allowed him to bring back so many monsters. I mean, it basically wins him a duel against Revolver. It saves him against Ai. It's just... I love this card. It took me forever to understand how it works, but now it's hard to imagine a Playmaker deck without it.
Favourite moment(s) he was in
And here I thought I had already written enough. Well, we're here for a few more hours. I hope your tea has not gone cold.
I dare hope that you KNEW you shouldn't expect me to choose only ONE moment. There are so many. I can't satisfy myself with only one, I must bring up a few more, but not too many because this post is overwhelming enough as it is.
1. Season 1, when Playmaker goes against Akira to recover files in SOL's massive datbase. I can't begin to express how angry I was with the way Akira treats Yusaku. I know it was done in good faith, but having Akira tell Yusaku "go have a normal life, go out with your friends, enjoy your life as a teenager and prepare for your future, it's important" is just horribly condescending. It's SO satisfying to see Playmaker put the Zaizen, who always seem to think they know what he feels, or what is best for him, in their place. There's something incredibly satisfying in having Yusaku say "It is MY story and it is MINE to tell".
"I don't want the story of my past to be told by someone else."
Having Playmaker defend his story like this, and not let others take it or misinterpret it (especially when they feel like they "understand"), is, to me, a very powerful moment. And as if this wasn't enough, Yusaku adds a power move to it, adding a step in his final turn that he didn't have to do to win the duel: returning the two Tindangle cards representing Akira and Aoi to the hand rather than winning by leaving them both in the graveyard. When confronted about it, he answers that he doesn't want the siblings to be in the darkness of the graveyard, that his revenge should not implicate them and that they should walk towards the light. It is incredibly heartful, AND an amazing way to show Zaizen that he will never manage to "understand" Yusaku considering the mindset he keeps displaying. That was so badass, seriously. I wish the Zaizen had learnt more from it.
2. Season 2, after the duel against Kusanagi. Playmaker won and collapsed, not waking up. The second moment I like most is there, in Yusaku's head. It's intimidating... and slightly tragic.
"I have done enough. I'm tired."
Oh. It's been building up for so many episodes, they've been straining him so much, and finally, it happens. The quietest mental breakdown, the hint of depression. It makes him so human, so relatable suddenly, and yet it's so painful. I love this moment because it really brought me back to who he is: a 16 year old kid with a trauma bigger than himself and the expectations of a whole city (world?) on his shoulders. I'm glad he gets up again, but I'm also really glad that we get to see this part of him, so tragically realistic. Now let's wrap him in a blanket and hug him, okay?
3. Season 3: The "last nice moments in the real world". I wish we had had more of those in the whole course of the series, there was SO MUCH potential for it! Look at them being teenagers. Yusaku, so happy, confident and carefree as he is working for Kusanagi (and this apron makes him look so cute.) Yusaku, being pestered by Shima who wants to know where Playmaker is (WHY would Yusaku know? Shima has weird leaps of logic.) And Aoi and Yusaku having the most AWKWARD handshake, that instantly relieved me from the fear that Aoi might be a love interest.
"This is what high schoolers do I guess. Okay, we tried, we're done, completely uninteresting, let's move on now. When's our next trauma-session already?"
That's three moments I love, but I can't resist adding a last Painful Bonus: another moment of "let's make Playmaker suffer". I'm so sorry, Yusaku.
4. Season 3: Roboppi's death; the flashback to a younger Yusaku who has just built his cleaning robot and is SO proud, so happy and welcoming, and then Playmaker, broken, begging Soulburner to strike one last time and finish Roboppi.
I feel like his eyes, at that moment, are another reminder of his age. It's one of the most terrible scenes of the whole anime (I'd say ex-aequo with Ai's final words), it's masterfully executed, the pacing is amazing, the work on the expressions is amazing, the voice acting is incredible. But really, these eyes.
Least favourite moment
Two moments come to mind, and both are in the third season. You'll see there's a recurring theme, and more importantly, the fact that I really don't like these moments barely comes from Yusaku's role in them. Even if his personality encourages it.
1. The scene at the pier. It's REALLY, REALLY not Yusaku's fault, but he's still one of the two major protagonists so it counts as a "least favourite moment." Yusaku is going for the final fight, and Ryoken catches him, sends him and almost kills him with the card that will help him win the duel against Ai. I know this scene is considered one of the cornerstones of Datastormshipping, but all I can see is... Yusaku getting rejected, again, after saying goodbye to Kusanagi with a brave and grateful smile on his face, and just before having to destroy someone that is essentially a part of him. He calls Ryoken's name, and Ryoken keeps the most distance possible. I think it may have been one of the worst things Ryoken could have done, and even the fact that the Borrel dragon is actually a symbol of how much Ryoken believes in Yusaku,.. well, it would still be not enough to recover from the blatant, cold rejection Yusaku received at that moment. Ryoken, I know you couldn't find it in you to encourage him, but you only had to say his first name. Acknowledge him more than by coldly stating his complete name. And maybe NOT use the word "farewell" this time, because twice in the few first minutes of an episode is way too much. GOD FORBID Yusaku has any sort of support from Ryoken, that would encourage him to feel like they have a bond, the horreur. (Ugh.) With Playmaker knowing that Takeru would leave, Aoi would have Miyu, Kusanagi would have his brother, having Ryoken just... coldly ignoring all tentative of closeness, and leaving without looking back, WELL. It's no wonder Yusaku disappeared solo at the end. From his perspective, he had no one left.
2. Mission begin: everyone is ready to try and stop Ai, the plan is set and Playmaker is not part of any team since he's not even here. Except...
"We can't begin without Playmaker."
It annoys me so much, because the thing is, yes, yes you really can begin without Playmaker. And you should, Heaven's sake!
Many characters at this point have told him that they would understand if he didn't want to take part in this fight, that they would shoulder some of his burden and that he could rest and stay away for his health and sanity.
The thing is, Yusaku is not this kind of person. He will take responsbility and let no one else do the job in his stead. And he comes back, in a rather flashy way, EXACTLY when they're all expecting him. And barely anyone is surprised, they all look so relieved. They were waiting for this.
This moment leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth, because here is the problem with Playmaker: he's so good and reliable that people just... lean on him and wait for him to do the hard work. No matter how traumatising. I took screenshots of the many, many times people said "I leave it into your hands, Playmaker". "I know you"ll complete the job well, Playmaker." "I'm counting on you, Playmaker." I am not putting all of them here, but I have an album of these.
In doing so, they only enable his rather destructive hero-complex.
Destructive because, consider: he had a huge trauma when he was a kid and never fully recovered. When he finally learns and fights the truth behind this trauma, he feels like his revenge is over, but the person he'd spent years and years looking for is gone after treating him quite awfully. Additionally, he releases his new "hostage/friend" and goes back to being alone. He's been a hero, and all he got was: being alone again. Come Takeru, and somehow he acquires a sort of social circle. He's not really good at it, but it exists, and he even looks quite comfortable with it, if a bit awkward. Then he's forced to watch, powerless, as all his newfound friends/trusted persons get erased one after another, all of them with parting words expressing how much they trusted him to fix this. Way to make him feel like it's great to have friends and allies, uh. Then the humans come back, but the Ignis are dead, and he feels like he has failed his self-imposed mission to find a way to coexist. Ai is gone, Ryoken sort of gloats (I understand it's probably not what he intended, but it still feels awfully like it.) He's been a hero, and all he got was: more trauma about losing people, more responsibilities he shouldn't have to shoulder, and likely no one who understands the pain he's in because the world is safe now.
And then Ai comes back and everything goes upside down, and Yusaku lives in denial all beginning of season 3.
That's what makes it a self-destructive complex, for me. Every time he plays hero, Yusaku exposes himself to the things that hurt him most. He's never rewarded. And yet, he keeps doing it, and giving people what they want from him/taking responsibility for things that should NEVER be considered his responsibility. It drives me crazy.
Note: I have a similar beef with the "epilogue", in which they all have something nice to say about Playmaker, and they're all so certain that he's amazing, that he'll be back... And yet. No one is looking. Not even Revolver, who should have it easy since he's working from the inside. Arguably, Kusanagi keeps the foodtruck parked in the same place so he has a home to go back to if he wishes
"He would be sad if he didn't have a place to come back to sometimes": I am convinced that Kusanagi is aware of how fragile the notion of "home" is for Yusaku.
So there's this at least. Arguably #2, I guess we could say they all know he doesn't want to communicate and they respect it. But the way they talk about him, it doesn't feel like its the case.
And this is why I keep saying that they don't deserve him; are they friends, or are they fans? Is any of them even really trying to do something for him, beyond "understanding his feelings" (Aoi, sigh), or rooting for him in the typical "Good old Playmaker, always knows what to do!" way (Takeru, sigh.)
Oh, Yusaku. The way they treat you upsets me so much. It's absolutely not what they're aiming for, but it's like they're encouraging you to develop new traumas instead of really helping you, and it makes me so angry.
So, yeah. I hate these moments, and these dynamics.
Would I fuck, marry or kill him
WHY IS THERE NO "ADOPT" OPTION. Well, the choice is quite easy by elimination. I would NOT kill him (in case you had not gathered already) I would very much NOT fuck him (I really doubt he'd be interested in it either, so that works well for both of us.) Soooo... marry, I guess? That would be hella awkward, but eh, if I can't adopt him, might as well use the option that would vaguely allow to, you know, protect and cherish. Even so, it's hard imagining Yusaku settling like this.
Aaaaand I'm done and off to bed, three hours later than planned. Honestly, kudos if you've read until here. Before I sign off, please receive the cutest gif of Yusaku to thank you for bearing with me for the past 2k+ words of crying over this incredible boy who deserves better.
You know, maybe my OTP is actually Yusaku/hotdog. They do deserve each other.

Dumping my Yu-Gi-Oh headcanons list on ya'll because I have nothing better to do today
All my headcanons are from the Duel Monsters portion of the series, most of which are influenced by the anime and personal thoughts.
Kaiba and Atem are 100% gay and demi, Yugi is bisexual and nonbinary(goes by he/they pronouns)
Kaiba and Atem are both intersex
Atem eventually returns through magic nonsense and everyone is overjoyed to have him back (Yugi and Kaiba especially, for their own reasons)
(cue Uncle Atem shedding tears of joy)
Kaiba and Atem eventually have twins, a daughter named Kaida and a son named Yami, both taking Atem's last name of Sennen.
Joey becomes a KC Security Officer because he's "A good guard dog", according to Kaiba.
Atem works graphic design for Kaiba Corp (he's a surprisingly good artist)
Yugi works at Kaiba Corp for the game development division. Sometimes he brings Atemu into the office with him, and he tries to coordinate dates where Kaida and Yami are brought in when Seto and Atem come to work so their kids can bond with each other. (Yugi wants Atemu to have a deep connection with his cousins asap.)
This is just all of my current headcanons so far, and I'll probably have more later down the line, but so far, that's all.

BEST YGO GIRL: FINAL ROUND
please use this as an opportunity to say why you like a character, not why you don't.
Yuzu Hiragi
The entire show would not work if the cast wasn't obsessed with her, and they're all right to stan her, literally gets Sora and Serena to defect from Academia with her sheer charisma, beat Masumi at their gay little rivalry, Yugo spends a few days with her and is ready to die for her, Yuya is simply just the loudest about adoring her And why not? She is so clever and determined, doing the most work out of anyone to figure out the myth plot. Actively trains to keep up with the rest of cast. Even when the universe is conspiring against her and trying to keep her down, she fucking headbutts Roger and tells him off or manifests to help save the world in the ultimate girlboss team-up that was the Arc V finale. Truly any dimension without her is worth upending.
The mysterious magical bracelet that isekai's her to different worlds, the Can-Do attitude, the cool poses (fusion summoning), the ADORABLE character design, AND she was 1/4 of a world-saving hero in the past?? If it weren't for the meddling writers, she would have been the main character
yuzu is everything. literally the plot of arc v hinges on the fact everyone who meets her become just as obsessed with her. and they are totally right to do so

I'm thinking thoughts. And you know- it's funny how you don't see a lot of daddy kink between Joey and Kaiba. Like not for the care taking aspect(that comes way later) but for the incredible power imbalance of it. Both with a lack of a father figure, one more aggressively in your face than the other. And to think about how you know Jounichi would say it first- but as an insult, in the "you're not my dad" way- only for it to be turned around with Kaiba sneering "arent I thought?" And now it's humiliating and well you know how they are about humiliation together lol. It just opens a can of worms, because for all intensive purposes- Kaiba IS a caretaker, with how he treats his brother and the amount of money he has. He's capable enough to fit the role. Despite his hatred for his own father. He vows to never be like him. And with the Jounichi seems to be hanging on to the thread of consistent unruliness and general brat behavior- you see what I'm getting at?
Anyways I felt like I had to tell YOU specifically my thoughts, because I had your dynamics of those two suckers in my head. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk
I get the sense that the (relatively) mainstream popularity of daddy/mommy kink is a recent development. Certainly didn't see an abundance of this kink in fandom erotica 15-20 years ago. So the fact that kaijou is an older ship that doesn't attract many new converts these days may be the reason you don't see it more often (or ever, I struggle to recall a single kaijou fic featuring this kink off the top of my head).
One of the interesting and beautiful things to me is they're both capable of bratting in their own way. May comes down to personal preference then.
Sorry I don't have more to comment on this one. I'm just not overly familiar with daddy kink and don't want to speak out of turn about its appeal to people. Gonna let the ask find its intended audience.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, friend! I love hearing all kaijou thoughts regardless. 👀
#replies#thithesandofferings#joukai asks#funny enough if i think about which of my versions that's most likely to foster a daddy kink#it's probably hitter!Jou/hacker!Seto 😂

One of my true loves is YuGiOh, specifically the original series.
And I just had to think of a SVSSS au of it.
I feel that Shen Yuan has to be Yugi, with Shen Jiu being Yami (just meaner lol). The problem that I have with that, is that Yugi’s friends would have to be the Peak Lords? And I hate giving SY SJ’s “friends”/Co-workers.
Then I thought that SY could be Yami? And SJ would be Yugi. And the idea works relatively well. …until I think about SQH.
Because he’s the other soul, right? He would be a great Bakura, with OGSQH as Yami Bakura. A man who made a deal with a demon that ultimately got him killed? Yep.
And I guess it still kinda works with the switch- OGSQH would be SJ contemporary after all. But that would make SQH the main bad guy, and I just can’t see it.
Then I thought maybe the friends could just be reincarnated versions of the peak lords, and the peak lords were like SJ’s “court”. And I guess that works? Kinda? Even if it feels like I’m making a a lot of ocs lol
I have no idea on the bad guys. Or the Kaiba Brothers. I do, however, feel like Liu Qingge needs to be Tea, if only so he can angering have a crush on both Shens lol

i want to return to my original draft for vampire in brooklyn because i did have a strong idea i wanted to mess with, but i don't think i have the brain power for it currently. i will post it here because i love to receive validation. tw for suicide/suicidal thoughts, casual drug use, and vomiting
Bright lights flashed in Seto’s face. Pink and blue and orange and white made barely discernible patterns across the makeshift dance floor. Bodies moved and conversation built like a dull roar in his ears. He walked through the rooftop party like a ghost, blood drumming with drink and drugs numbing him from the skin. It didn’t stop him from feeling the core of his bones and pull of his muscle, the soft wet interior of a man drudging like an undead creature. He walked to edge of the party, where the roof access door and laid lovers in shadow. The enthusiastic couples had found their privacy and didn’t even look up as Seto walked past their throng. He found a metal pipe to cling to, and the shock of cold against his skin felt like a bath. He collapsed into it, and his stomach heaved. The brightly colored cocktails splashed across the concrete roof. The lights reflected back its medley of colors.
Seto lifted his head to the sky, felt the cool late October breeze. His feet moved of their own accord. The brownstone lip of the building was just high enough that it took some struggle to climb. He stood up straight, looking down at the street below. His body wavered in the wind, and he held his arms out to welcome it. The party didn’t stop. No one even noticed.
Today was Seto Kaiba’s birthday, and just like every year, he wished he was dead.
The thought brute forced its way to the front of his mind. It was a dull thrum at all times. Seto spent his whole life making the wrong decisions. Spent hours of work and dedicated his mind to causes he didn’t believe in. His head sunk as he thought of his brother, attending school in California. The one spot of sunshine in his life, Mokuba had texted a happy birthday message between classes that morning. Seto hadn’t expected a phone call. He hadn’t expected anything at all. Let Mokuba live his happy life somewhere far away from the pressures of the Kaiba heir. Let him be happy. Let Seto be the sacrifice. Every year the knife dug deeper in, and he had to wonder how much pain he could take before it finally pierced his heart.
It might’ve been easier if he wasn’t on the other side of the world, protecting investments abroad, spending his day with men in business suits that still treated him like a child. He’d taken the party invitation from another young executive as a way to pass the hours until the next day. Better than being alone in his hotel room, chest aching with each tick of the clock. His heart was a heavy weight in his chest, and as he wobbled where he stood, he imagined the weight pitching him forward, until his body collapsed on the concrete below.
That’s what losers deserve, a voice whispered on the wind, and he squeezed his eyes shut. When he opened them again, he realized he was no longer alone. Someone leaned over the stone edge, chin in hand, staring up at him with wide brown eyes. The lights of the party reflected against his face, casting odd shadows that made him hard to read.
“Do you mind?” Seto spat out.
The stranger shrugged his shoulders. A shredded jean jacket rolled across his shoulders with safety pins and badges sewn into it. A shag of bleach blond hair curled around the nape of his neck. Half gloves covered his knuckles, and his nails were black. It was not the look of a high class rooftop party, especially compared to Seto’s Burberry coat and custom boots. A party crasher, he surmised, and now witness. Fine, let him watch. Seto held his arms out again, lifting his chin. He wobbled where he stood. Every second he didn’t let his body weight fall forward, he felt instead the eyes of the stranger on him. Seto let out a frustrated sound and shot a glare his way.
“Are you gonna do it?” the stranger said.
A thick Brooklyn accent coated his words. His eyes were wide and unblinking, and they Seto off kilter more than the drink. Red seemed to rim the outer edge of the iris, or maybe it was the lights blinking across his face.
“Would it give you any satisfaction if I did?” Seto asked.
A grin stretched across his face. “Would it do for you?”
Heat flared from the tips of Seto’s ears down to his cheeks. Embarrassment tinged with anger. He’d been caught by this–this–lowlife punk deadbeat take your pick–in the midst of his ennui and now was being dared–dared–to take his own life. As though Seto Kaiba would plummet so easily for the entertainment of some goddamned idiot. How pathetic would it look too? Kaiba takes a swan dive with too many drugs in his system. They wouldn’t even call it a suicide. And then all the drama with the Americans to get his body properly cremated, and Mokuba would have to shoulder the headache. All for the tabloids to speculate wildly about every ounce of him, and leave the reputation of Kaiba Corp even more sullied. No, no thank you. Not tonight anyway.
“Not that it should matter to you,” Seto said, trying to gracefully climb down while still being very drunk. “I don’t need any heckling from the peanut gallery–ah!”
He tripped, stupidly, and for a single jolting second he swung towards the concrete street below. A hand gripped the back of his coat and pulled so he fell backwards. His balance was off completely, and he crumpled into the waiting arms of the stranger. He held him beneath the armpits so Seto’s long legs draped in front of them, and he looked down. The pinks and blues framed his golden hair, and in Seto’s spinning vision he seemed to pulse with the music, like a 3D picture he couldn’t figure out.
“I’m Joey,” the stranger said with his same smile.
Seto grit his teeth down and shoved off him. It took him a heartbeat too long to find his own footing. Wiping off his coat, he said, “Then I know who to send my dry cleaning bill to.”
Joey laughed, a loud rancorous laugh that echoed over the music. “You’re kind of an asshole, ain’t ya?”
Seto didn’t bother denying the claim. He picked at a piece of lint and tossed it aside. “You can leave now.”
Joey didn’t. He stared at him with his damned gaze, pupils stretched wide, like a cat who saw his mouse on the other side of the room. Seto felt the same heat pulse in his chest, that shame at being caught in a moment of weakness.
“You know,” Joey said, nodding his head toward the roof door, “I was about to ditch this party. And I figure you got your schedule cleared for tonight.”
“It wasn’t exactly planned,” Seto grumbled.
“There’s this bar,” Joey said. “I hate to drink alone.”
“I’m not–”
“And if you’re that determined to die,” Joey said, “I can think of a lot more pleasant ways to go.”
Seto stared at him. His eyes betrayed nothing but amusement. He walked back towards the stairway, and like a gnat in the allure of a lantern, Seto followed.
Seto was used to introducing himself with his family name, but he made no mention of it as they walked to the ground floor. Neither of them said much at all, not until they pushed open the door to New York’s evening streets. Joey stood against the brownstone and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. He tapped the box in his palm and pulled out a stick with his teeth, glancing at Seto as he did. He must’ve seen the bob of Seto’s throat when he said, “You want one?”
Seto nodded mutely. He removed a second stick, placing them both between his lips, and he flicked the lighter. Once they were both cherry red, he passed one to Seto, who took it with shaking hands. Anything in his belly had been exorcized when he vomited, and the remains of what lurked in his bloodstream had him shivering in the autumn chill, despite his coat.
