I know you have zero interest in the current spidergwen comic but there is a somewhat interesting development?

Supposedly in upcoming issues she's fighting some villainous dude black tarantula (described as an all new one ) and there's a 'spark' between them. I know it's not what we wanted and marvel refuses to let gwen have queer relationships with women (maybe if we're lucky we'll get something one day)

But it seems gwen is getting into yet another villainous situationship....yay...

oh? i'll take it. no judgment on the execution since i'm not reading that run for the foreseeable future, but just off the concept? gets a pass from me.

it's still on 616, and it's still straight, so in the long run we have to ditch this guy but it works for now. the least gwen's 616 run can do is give her a separate love interest so she's unavailable to miles and people have someone else to ship her with. this is good. this is progress.

(i just know the gwilesbros who love the idea of gwen saving herself for miles are fuming right now. i also know they'll lose interest in her once her body count's up so like. lets use the purity culture to drive that value down.)

but you know what's most promising here? black tarantula is a grown man. not even spider punk or arana legal where you can still say they're teens if you squint. grown man. bearded. finished puberty a decade ago. divorced. on his second career. the man has a graduate degree. which means the only way this got a sign off from editorial is if gwen's still an adult. we might have just skirted around the age retcon before it could hurt her, and it's gonna make any flirtation between her and miles Too Weird. fabulous.

and it's got precedent! almost all of gwen's canon love interests and admirers started out as villains who were trying to kill her. is it repetitive? yes. is it in-character for her to hit second base mid-fight with her villain and just kinda go with it? ... yes.

even more so when you consider the situation she's in. gwen's trapped in comphet limbo in 616 and is coping by getting into a questionable situationship with a buff, hairy, much older man with a spider-themed alter ego who's been on both sides of the law and has extremely dubious morals (that would absolutely piss off the guy she's being shoved towards if he ever found out about it)? welcome back scarletghost.

(.... and uh. it isn't lost on me that the atsv synergy run is shipping gwen with a hot older latino spider-themed male vigilante who's antagonistic towards her. did migwen just technically win. this is the funniest possible butterfly effect.)
