gingerly, you wrap the crimson scarf around his neck, too immersed in the task of fixing it in all the right places, here and there, this and that, to even notice how he looks at you with all the adoration in the world.

ajax pauses, most certain that there's a brilliant red blush that dusts his cheeks; he hopes that you will not notice how awestruck he is. because it's not as if you haven't confessed to him, it's not like you've never given him anything before-- but there is something so warm and invigorating in this time you share that he cannot help but feel a deeper sense of fondness in his heart.

slowly, he unravels the scarf-- not entirely, but just enough so that he's able to wrap it around your neck, too. how close it brings you two together, nose to nose, lips only inches away from each other.

you stare at him in both amusement and faint surprise, and if he looked close enough, you might even be flustered, too. you laugh nonetheless, hands cupping his face tenderly.

"you are ridiculously cheesy, you know that?" you press your forehead against his, your smile growing when he shrugs knowingly. "happy birthday, my lovely ajax."
