My lovely little flat in Greenwich ooh I mean Deptford ...south London anyway
Yesterday I went to see some properties in the Brighton Marina.
It is a pretty part of Brighton, a gated development with sea views and I had taken my partner and I to stay in one of the airbnbs there.
My only reservation was - which I bemoaned was I didn't like the look of the development. It felt dated. Like my own property in Greenwich.
Particularly as I loved the old classic Victorian or Edwardian villas and I had even seen some gorgeous Georgian style houses in Brighton to buy. Brighton has a ridiculously beautiful stock of houses.
But I am still waiting for another house sale to go through and I would not have time to buy somewhere in time before Persia started at Brighton College.
When I met Julian in the early 2000s on a blind date through a mutual friend. My friend from university was working at JPMorgan on his first job and Julian was his boss at the time. My friend stayed in the city and is now an MD at JPM for his sins.
I was working in insurance as an AS400 developer and earning quite a lot of money actually up in Manchester - I felt at the time. My mom told me to buy a property there - I wish I had they were very cheap at the time and hadn't had the leap yet.
But then - like in my life weird lucky things happen. They decided to move some of the tech team down to a place called Edenbridge ... actually 40minutes drive from my parents house. So yes within a year of me moving up to Manchester ... I was relocated down to by parents house from where I came ! And they paid for relocation costs so increased our salary for those who chose to move. So I doubled my salary pretty much over night and got to move back into my parents - which meant I could save money.
At the same time I started seeing Julian as I said.
He had started renovating houses in the evenings whilst working as a banker during the day. I have thing for alpha male talented workaholics.
His own father had him quite old and Julian wanted to retire nicely by the age of 40 and enjoy a nice life. He also wanted a nice life before retirement as well. And in those days houses were going up in value whether you renovated them or not.
Yes it meant we could afford to be away 5months of the yr spending approx 50k on adventures and also in deed Julian was retired by the age of 40. He still worked a little for something to do for a few years after but this was from working like a crazy person. I will talk more about our experience of renovating houses.
Houses are a way most people in the UK have made money. As long as they bought a property before the 2000s. And all people did in London / UK was talk about house prices.
So at this point I as around 26/27 years old working as a programmer for an insurance company.
So the first property I met Julian in (it was his second renovation) was this quite ridiculously grand house in Woodford on the Monkham's Estate. Something similar to one of these.

I was mid-late 20s and he was early thirties. And he had already created a beautiful house he/we could have settled in.
In fact the guy who bought the house was someone about 20years older than us and he was head of IT of an investment bank.
I had this feeling at the time, that I really needed to buy my own place.
I had every intention but it was really important before Julian and I moved in, otherwise people will always say I only managed to buy my own property because I married a banker. That my assets I had achieved were my own achievements.
No one can take that away from you. Especially as a young person.
So I went to look for properties. Julian drove me around to properties which needed renovation work over in east London near to him.
I wanted to stay south London nearish to my parents and I wanted a riverside property near a park under £200000. At the time my previous boyfriend and friends from university lived in Blackheath and Charlton nearby. I had loads of friends in the area.
And I wanted to be able to rent it out easily.
I had saved up about £40k from my earnings. And found the flat I wanted. I could afford £187000.
So this was around 2001/02.
Even with my high salary at the time and savings it was quite difficult to get a mortgage. I guess it must have been quite unusual for again a single brown woman not born in the his country going into a bank with a job in tech salary slips asking for a £150k mortgage. I looked a lot younger ! It freaked people out. I remember I met a girl in her 20s at a friends party and god knows what someone had to said to her but she started quizzing me on my property. And a woman in my office came up to me and said - Darling we need to tell you something you can't afford that property.
It was so weird.
But my other friends in professional jobs were buying properties and everyone had some mortgage story, so I was like whatever. It's what people did. Shrugs shoulders.
A friend of mine introduced me to a mortgage broker and he tried to help me get a mortgage but they really delayed everything and I nearly lost the property. I was so legit it was unbelievable - where was the risk ?
And then a new online mortgage company appeared owned by one of the big financial institutions and they gave me a mortgage within 10 days of me applying.
Did I mention I grew up in a seaside town Southport - we are far from sea views but I always dreamt about it. And then when I was at Imperial College I would dream about living in one of wharfs. And then docklands was like a fancy yuppie thing. God I was such a yuppie Blairite.
This was before Shoreditch became cool by the way.
And I bought my 2 bed flat with a slight river view and some parking.

Got a lodger another friend from uni who had a job at JPM. And actually I hardly spent much time there because I got together with Julian and eventually moving in with him and renting my flat out - which I have for about 20years and paying off the mortgage.
I am proud of myself for that achievement. I did it all myself. In my 20s already. Yayeee !

'Netflix's new series based on Patricia Highsmith's 1950's crime novel, "The Talented Mr. Ripley," has fans of the show yearning to experience the picturesque Amalfi Coast, where much of the show was filmed.
The book's latest adaptation is even driving traffic to the particular town in which it's filmed, Atrani, a tiny seaside municipality with a local population of less than 1,000 people.
Home-sharing site Airbnb said the miniseries, called "Ripley," has led to a 93% increase in bookings in Ravello, a city about 15 minutes away from Atrani.
Bookings in nearby Minori also increased 62% on the weekend of the release of "Ripley," compared with the same weekend one year earlier, according to Airbnb.
"It's no surprise that a show as visually spectacular as 'Ripley' is inspiring viewers to explore the Amalfi Coast for their next getaway," Amanda Cupples, general manager for Airbnb UK and Northern Europe, said in a statement. "As it spotlights a lesser-known Italian city of Atrani, this is showing travelers that they can avoid the crowds, while simultaneously quenching their 'Ripley' wanderlust."
Known for its slow pace of life, cobblestone streets and trattorias, Atrani is less crowded than better-known destinations on the Amalfi Coast. But local business owners are bracing for change in anticipation of unusually large crowds this summer.
Some say they're grateful for the exposure, while others are concerned about being overrun.
"This coast is saturated with overtourism. If more visitors come because of the series, I sincerely hope they come in low season," Antonella Florio, of apartment rental company Maison Escher told The Guardian.
Another property manager, Luisa Criscolo, told the outlet that an increase in visitors needs to be "managed intelligently."
"Our village can't cope with huge numbers of tourists. Cars, buses and motorbikes leave the traffic paralyzed. The authorities need to keep a decent amount of places open longer so some visits can be channelled to other times of year, and must also encourage use of waterborne transport, and offer more frequent services on smaller buses," she said.
While the Amalfi Coast is popular with tourists, particularly in the summertime, the most searched for city worldwide on Airbnb this summer is Paris, the host of the 2024 Olympic Games. Consumers are also searching for stays in nearby towns and cities like Lille, Versailles and Lyon, where some Olympic events will be held, according to Airbnb.'

Sparks Fly
Summary: Dan and Phil’s vacation after Vidcon is going well, until a mistake from Phil sets the whole thing up in flames. Rating: PG-13 wc: ~2.2k A/N: written for the @phandomreversebang! Phil was proud of this one. An airbnb cabin, far away enough from the rest of the world that they would get some space to themselves for once, but close enough to civilization that it had broadband internet. The perfect place to wind down together after Vidcon. He stretched his feet out onto the glossy wooden coffee table and turned another page, trying to focus on his book.
“Ah!” Dan jumped back a bit as he entered the living room. “Did we really need to keep the cutout?”
“It’s funny,” Phil insisted. He wasn’t sure what exactly had inspired him to stuff the cardboard cutout of Dan into their suitcases when the man from the convention asked if they wanted to keep it, but it annoyed Dan to see a replica of himself stand in the cabin’s living room, so stand it did.
“It keeps scaring the shit out of me.” Dan glared at it, somewhat resentfully.
“Even better.” Phil attempted a wink.
Dan rolled his eyes. “Just wanted to say I’m tired. Going to bed.”
Phil looked up from his book, trying to suppress his disappointment. “So early?”
“Tired.” Dan leaned over the back of the sofa to try to reach Phil’s face, reaching out with his hands to pull him closer when Phil jokingly pulled away.
“Good night,” Dan said, kissing Phil on the forehead, and then on both cheeks when he pouted. “Do your best to survive without me. You’ll have your book to keep you company. Very intellectual.”
Phil rolled his eyes, turning back to his (somewhat trashy) horror novel. “Good night. Sleep well.” It was good that Dan was going to bed early, probably, he hadn’t been sleeping well recently. Hopefully he’d be able to catch up on some sleep tonight and feel better.
The cottage was quieter than Phil expected with Dan in bed in the other room. It was a bit eerie, so far away from the rest of the world, alone in the woods, and Phil found scenes from the axe murderer horror novel in his hand flitting through his head a bit more vividly than he would have liked.
He needed something to calm him down, ground him, and he remembered from the advice he had absorbed through Dan’s therapist. A scented candle, maybe? It would be cozy and warm, and you never saw scented candles in books about axe murderers. There were scented candles already provided on the coffee table, he’d just have to find the matches.
There were probably some in the kitchen. He stood up and moved to the kitchen, searching the cabinet until he found the matches. He struck one, absentmindedly, before remembering the candle was in the other room. The flame was already flickering down—he didn’t have long to get there before it burnt out.
His resolve strengthening him, he summoned extra reserves of strength from deep within him to start a sprint back towards the living room. He was just rounding the corner when he noticed a human figure looming ahead of him. “Ah!” He jumped slightly before realizing it was just the cutout. God, Dan was right. It was terrifying. He looked for the candle, then paused. The match. Where was the match?
A flickering, growing glow in the corner of his eye answered his question. “Oh fuck,” Phil whispered. “Oh fuck, DAN, oh fuck-” he ran towards their room. “DAN,” he shouted again, swinging the door open.
Dan was sitting up in bed, massaging his head. “What the fuck did you do, Phil?”
“Fire,” Phil managed, “fire!”
He was starting to smell the smoke. Dan must’ve too, because his eyes widened. “Phil, you idiot, we can’t get out this way.”
Dan was sort of right, he supposed, the living room was between their bedroom and both the front and back doors, and a large chunk of it was on fire right now.
“You idiot, you should’ve gotten out.” Dan sounded scared now.
Phil wished he could say he had gone back out of some deep seated need to save Dan, but if he was being honest, it was just instinct at this point to run for Dan every time he made a mess. “It’s fine,” he said, looking around for an exit. The window. Phil silently thanked his past self for booking an Airbnb with only one story.
Dan’s eyes followed Phil’s gaze, and he must’ve had the same thought, because he grabbed Phil’s arm, dragging him over to the window and wrenching it open. “The screen-” Phil said, before Dan let go of his hand to push at it until the screen came loose, falling onto the ground on the other side of the window.
“Come on,” Dan said, swinging a leg over the side. He hopped awkwardly down, dragging his other leg after him. “Come on.”
Phil’s legs seemed to seize up, but with enough of Dan’s tugging he made it over the windowsill, his foot catching and sending him tumbling into the sweetly scented, but somewhat thorny, flowerbed. “Ow,” he muttered, looking at the scratches running their way down his long, pale arms. He found himself staring at them, transfixed, as a single drop of blood welled up and trickled down his arm.
Dan pulled at his arm again. “Phil, move-”
Phil stumbled to his feet and out of the flowerbed, following Dan until they were about 20 feet away from the house, just where the grass turned into woods. Oh god, Phil could just see the headlines about how two British idiots were the cause of the latest California wildfire—
“Call 911,” Dan said, sounding just a little less frantic now that they were out of the house.
Phil patted his pockets, looking for his phone. He found a phone-shaped lump in the left one, and pulled it out, his hands shaking as he tried to pull up the phone icon and type in the numbers. It took him a couple of tries, but he finally got the number in right.
A woman’s cool voice sounded from Phil’s phone speakers. “911, what’s your emergency?”
“Right! Emergency. I’m here with my—um—friend,” Phil said awkwardly. “We’re on vacation, from the UK, well, vacation after a convention—you don’t care about visas, do you?” he said, suddenly remembering Dan’s Bahamas fiasco from a few years ago.
Dan glared at him. “The fire,” he prodded.
“Right!” Phil said. “My house is on fire.”
“Do you have an address?” the woman on the other end asked in the calmest voice Phil had ever heard.
“Address,” Phil motioned to Dan with a gesture he hoped clearly communicated, “get me the address for this airbnb,” but Dan didn’t seem to understand. He just looked confused.
“What?”
“What’s the address of this place?”
“Oh!” Dan said, digging out his phone (Phil was suddenly grateful that neither of them could be separated from their phones for long enough to lose them in an emergency). He stared at his screen anxiously, as if he was waiting for something to load.
When it finally did, he didn’t even read it out loud, just shoved the email in front of Phil’s face so he could read it to the dispatcher.
“Alright, sir, help is on the way,” the woman on the phone said. “Are you and your friend a safe distance from the house?”
Phil looked around. “Um, I think so.”
“Perfect. And there’s no one else in the building? Any pets?”
“No. Just us.”
“We’ll be sending an ambulance around just to check that everyone is alright, just so you know.”
Phil hoped he wouldn’t be charged for that. He missed the NHS. “Okay.”
“I’m just going to need you to sit tight until then, okay? Now, can you answer a few questions about the fire?”
She asked a few vague questions about how the fire started, and Phil was grateful that he didn’t have to actually explain what happened, just say it was an accident. Her questions seemed more designed to keep him on the line and calm him down until the fire truck came than to get any actual answers about the fire from him. Phil tried not to look too hard at the growing flames, glowing in the window.
After a few minutes, he could hear sirens in the distance, and a fire truck and ambulance pulled up in his driveway. A few figures in bulky suits hopped out of the truck, immediately getting to work unrolling a hose and aiming it towards the windows of the living room, where Phil could see flames flickering.
“Right,” a very tall man in firefighter gear strode over to them. “I just have a few questions about how the fire started. I don’t suppose you’d be willing to help?”
“You should probably talk to Phil about that, I have to make a few calls,” Dan said, ducking away and patting Phil’s hand before leaving him alone to face his interrogation.
“Yeah,” Phil gulped. “I was there.” He forced himself to look up to make eye contact with the firefighter.
“Right,” the man said, writing something in a notepad. “You saw it start?”
“Yes,” Phil said. “I, uh, was carrying a match.”
The man raised an eyebrow and wrote something down again. “You were carrying a match,” he repeated.
“Yes,” Phil said, finally breaking eye contact. “I was carrying a lit match and I dropped it.”
“Hmmm.” Some more writing. “Why’d you drop it?”
“Well, um, me and my-” Phil hesitated for just a second. “Me and my friend kept this cardboard cutout from this convention we went to, and when I walked back into the living room it startled me and I dropped it.” He didn’t dare look up and risk making eye contact again, but even the other man’s pen scribbling seemed judgemental.
“Right. So then something caught on fire from that?”
“I think it was the carpet. I’m not sure.”
“Well,” the man said, clearing his throat. “You and your friend are lucky you’re safe. I hope you’ve learned to be more careful with matches next time.”
“I have. Sir.” Phil cringed inwardly, hoping it didn’t show on his face. Sir? Was he a child being scolded at school?
The firefighter seemed to accept Phil’s assurance, though, nodding once before turning away and moving back to the truck, just as Dan emerged from the ambulance and jogged over.
“Your turn.” Dan nodded towards the ambulance.
Phil sighed. At least the paramedics probably wouldn’t ask him any questions about how he had managed to start a house fire.
When Phil’s exam was done and he got out of the ambulance, Dan was waiting for him. “I found us a hotel,” he said.
“I love you,” Phil said.
“As you should.”
“What about our stuff?” Phil asked, anxious.
“They let me go in to get our suitcases. Nothing else, though I’m not sure I’d be able to find anything else if I was allowed to try. The living room looked pretty bad.”
They hadn’t gotten a chance to unpack much yet. Just having their suitcases should be fine, though Phil missed his horror novel already. But still, Phil groaned. “Are we going to be in trouble with the Airbnb host?”
“Nope,” Dan said. “I called already, they have insurance for idiots like us.” He smiled as he said it. Phil couldn’t help but appreciate that he had lumped the two of them together, as if this whole mess hadn’t been entirely Phil’s fault. “We’re not getting our money back, though.”
Phil sighed. “Understandable.” It was probably the best outcome he could ask for, especially with he and Dan safe… and how expensive US medical bills could get. “How far is the hotel?”
“About half an hour.” Phil opened his mouth, but Dan cut him off. “I’ll drive. You’ve caused enough damage for today.”
He was smiling, just teasing, but Phil couldn’t help the flush of shame that came over him anyway. “I’m sorry.”
Dan threw an arm around Phil’s back and pulled him closer. “I know,” he whispered. “Now come on. Let’s get out of here and get some rest.”
The hotel room wasn’t as nice as their cabin had been. It was on the smaller side, and the carpet was scratchy and gray. The mattress on the equally gray bed was a bit lumpy, but Phil couldn’t bring himself to care as he dragged himself into it.
Dan collapsed next to him. “How is it that I’m the one functional in an emergency?” he asked. “I’m the one crippled by existential despair all the time.”
“I don’t know,” Phil confessed, wringing his hands. “I just… I panicked.”
“I know,” Dan sighed, patting Phil’s face fondly.
“Nothing like a near death experience to solidify a relationship, though, right?” Phil joked weakly.
Dan patted his face again, a bit more clumsily. “Nothing like a near death experience to make me tired.”
He lapsed into silence then, and Phil listened to him fall asleep, counting every breath, matching them with his own until his eyes drifted closed and he fell into a dark, dreamless sleep where, finally, he could no longer smell the wood smoke.

Founded in 2013 by Ritesh Agarwal, OYO initially consisted mainly of budget hotels. The startup expanded globally with thousands of hotels, vacation homes and millions of rooms in India, Malaysia, UAE, Nepal, China, Brazil, Mexico, UK, Philippines, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, the United States and more. The company's investors include SoftBank Group, Didi Chuxing, Greenoaks Capital, Sequoia India, Lightspeed India, Hero Enterprise, Airbnb and China Lodging Group. Currently due to covid OYO had to go for a few months without any booking which put the company which was already facing multiple problems into crisis mode. The company had been constantly firing employees because of  reduced revenue and competition. Many partner hotels for the company had problems with the payment and management and were leaving the company and joining their competition, there were many safety violations coming up for the company including women safety, sharing data etc. Due to covid the company has had a hard time sustaining as they had to let go of many properties apart from the many problems they have faced. Few of the problems OYO faced was 1. Complaints of unpaid dues by Indian hotel partners 2. Police complaints by hotel groups and hoteliers 3. Protests by US hotel owners over OYO’s entry 4. Lack of profitability 5. Scrutiny by Competition Commission of India 6. Questions about asset-heavy model

The Scramble Home
15th March 2020
We woke on the 15th March to a message from our Airbnb host in El Chalten, where we were due to travel to in the afternoon, telling us that Argentina had closed all of its national parks indefinitely due to Coronavirus. From what we we could see online, El Chalten is a town even smaller than El Calafate, where internet connection and phone coverage is poor. With the only activity to do in the town being trekking in the now closed national park and with rumors of an impending national quarantine looming, we decided we were better off staying put in El Calafate until we could get a 24 hour bus north to Bariloche, a city with better transport links and an easier route to Chile should we need it. It was also partly in keeping with our traveling plan - we had no intention of coming home at this point and booked the bus for Tuesday 17th.
Later that day Argentina announced it was closing its borders to all non-residents and canceling all flights from America and Europe, which would have a subsequent knock on effect on flights going in the other direction. The mood had changed in El Calafate and looking at the global reaction to Coronavirus we started conversations about potentially going home - these conversations centered around the fact that it was looking increasingly likely that travel would be disrupted and even if it wasn’t, we wouldn’t be able to see and do the things we wanted to. After discussing with our parents Honor and I ultimately came to the decision that we should go home, although we were still unsure whether this was the right choice. We had found a new Airbnb earlier in the day and went to bed that night with the intention of arranging our route home in the morning.
16th March 2020
We spent the morning googling various options to get home, all via Chile as the last flight from Argentina to the UK was leaving from Buenos Aires in the afternoon. The quickest route appeared to be to head back the way we’d came as far as Punta Arenas, fly to Santiago and then to the UK. We calculated that we could be in Santiago by Thursday 19th and booked on a British Airways flight for Friday the 20th - a flight that would actually take us to São Paulo first (with LATAM) and then London. The first step of our plan was to get the bus from El Calafate to Puerto Natales back in Chile. There was a bus leaving in the evening so we booked on it and killed time in El Calafate.
We arrived at the bus station to 15-20 people who looked as though their travel plans had not gone smoothly - distressed faces and frantic phone checking/calls. We checked with our bus company to find out that because the company was based in Chile they were unable to get the coach across the border into Argentina and then take us back again. The woman told us that the bus was cancelled but that if we were quick we could book on a bus with the company next door who were Argentinian and should therefore have no issues with the border crossings - the next bus was first thing in the morning and we managaed to get tickets.
While this was ongoing we overheard an American group who were discussing the fact that their travel agencies had told them to “get out of Argentina as soon as possible”. The UK Government website was now stating the same so our decision to come home was starting to look like the right one. We also learned while at the bus station that Chile had announced it was going to close its borders on Wednesday 18th. With our bus being scheduled for the 17th we felt quietly confident we’d at least make it back to Chile in the morning.
17th March 2020
Arriving at the bus station at 6am we were greeted with about 30 people frantically checking their phones and looking far more distressed than yesterday - not a good sign. We checked with the bus company who confirmed to us that the bus was cancelled. The company had been called late in the night and told that the Chilean border was closing early, at midnight, and if they attempt to cross with the coach they will not be allowed to pass. They told us the situation may be different for lone travelers if we got a taxi to the border and refunded us our money.
Our options were now limited to either staying put in El Calafate or trying to get a flight to Buenos Aires and then to São Paulo to meet the British Airways flight we had booked. As it stood, Brazil was still operating normally but we had so far disregarded going to Buenos Aires and therefore staying longer in Argentina due to the threat of national quarantine, the lack of onward flights from Argentina, the constant threat of Argentinian transport cancellations and the fact that (in theory!) getting to Chile was an easy, well trodden route. We joined those frantically searching things on their phones and tried to book flights from the small airport in El Calafate to Buenos Aires. Unsurprisingly we failed to book these flights as the airline websites refused to accept payment.
We went back to our Airbnb and briefly, although seriously, considered a third option - traveling to the Chilean border by taxi and risking the border crossing. The taxi would have been two hours and over £100, with the propspect of leaving us desserted in the middle of nowhere if Chile did not let us in, so we dismissed it and opted to go the airport in the hope of booking a flight to Buenos Aires.
The airport was full of people trying to get home and we each joined different queues for different airlines. My queue traveled the quickest while Honors didn’t move at all, I reached the front and got told to join another queue, perfect. My second queue thankfully moved quickly and I eventually bought two tickets for a waiting list - we were to wait in the airport and hope that our names would be called out. Luckily for Honor, her name was read out as the next available flight was due to start bording. My name was omitted. We queried with one of the airport staff who investigated and returned with the news that there was room for me too - I’m sure Honor wouldn’t have deserted me!?
We landed in Buenos Aires and investigated onward flights to São Paulo. LATAM couldn’t change the ticket we had booked from Santiago as it was booked through British Airways so we had to purchase new tickets for the next morning - more money than we were comfortable spending but with the constant risk of cancelation we had to turn a blind eye to our flaming debit cards rather than wait for the cheaper options. The LATAM woman informed us she had sorted the flights “from here to São Paolo” and we arranged a nights stay at a nearby hotel.
18th March 2020
Another early start after about four hours sleep between us. We got a taxi back to the airport and hit our first snag of the day as we viewed the departures board - our flight wasn’t there. We checked with a LATAM employee who told us we were at the wrong airport. It turned out that when the woman last night said “from here” she meant Buenos Aries and not the specific airport. We quickly got a taxi and lucked out with the taxi driver who seemed to make it his own personal mission to get us there on time.
We checked in at the correct airport and waited in departures. People in masks were all around us, medical personnel were checking arrival flights in full personal protection equipment, we were tired and we were stressed. Thankfully the plane did not get canceled and although departure was a little late, we were just happy to have completed another step.
At the airport in São Paolo we went straight to the British Airways desk to see if we could update our flight to take us that evening rather than making us wait a day. A British couple told us that the desk was closed and we’d have to wait until midday for it to open. Despite the bad news it was at least nice to hear a British accent - we spent the next couple of hours in the queue chatting to our new friends.
The desk opened and the plane change went without issue or further charge. The tickets felt like gold dust and we quickly got through security. We ordered a couple of drinks in departures and managed to relax for the first time in a few days.
As a somewhat nervous flyer I had never been so happy to hear the words “welcome on board”, with the British accent making it all the better!
19th March 2020
The plane landed at Heathrow at about 6am and we confirmed to our parents that we’d made it. Our next step was to get to Leeds so we could pick up Honor’s car from Connie (Honor’s sister). The train journey went smoothly (rush hour in London was eerily quiet) and we picked up the car early in the afternoon.
We were treated that night to a room in the Timble Inn which had by far the comfiest bed of our two month journey and some very comforting food.
20th March 2020
The final leg! We filled up on full English breakfasts before setting off on the drive to Heysham to get the afternoon sailing home. We were hit with a strange range of emotions as we were sad that we’d had to finish our journey early but equally relieved to have made it home.
We checked in at Heysham and felt comforted by the sight of the boat waiting ready to take us home. Four and a bit hours later and we’d made it back onto Manx soil! We would love to finish our journey in hopefully the not too distant future, but right now, just like everybody else, we’re waiting for all this to blow over in self isolation.
