Jean grabbed the stack of plates his grandfather had pulled from the cabinets from the countertop, although he nearly dropped them from their unexpected weight. He staggered over to the table and set the plates down in a stack, then took them to each spot individually. His grandfather was folding the newspaper that had been in front of his chair and tossing it to the side as his sisters raced into the kitchen and practically threw themselves into their chairs.

"Is this how you two are at home, too?" His grandfather asked, reaching over and prodding Camille's shoulder.

Camille giggled. "No," she said, as though it was some secret.

"I don't think your father would approve of such chaos. Don't worry, though. I won't tell him."

Jean's mood immediately soured. Father doesn't approve of anything, he thought.
