Phos tries to confess but he's just stumbling over his words and coughing every minute or so

He's trying so so hard pls accept him

in all honesty, i think he'd be so confused by his own emotions he wouldn't even be able to stammer through a confession. love is something, in my opinion, that phosphorus thinks he's long buried. to love is to be human, and there are multiple instances in the show where phosphorus doesn't even contest being lumped in with "the monsters". he even calls himself "a freaking skeleton". love is something only alexander sartorius is capable of, and to him, dr. alexander sartorius is dead.

so falling in love again is terrifying. and he tries so hard—really, he does—to fight it off with sarcasm and cynicism. but it doesn't work. love claws its way into his chest despite it all.

and when he's forced to face it head on, all he can do is stand there. speechless. but you reach for his hand, and he doesn't pull away. and that's all he has to say.
