LYN: I was filming today, but I saw a lot of fans cursing me to have five sons. You may be wondering why I say having sons would be a curse... It’s because I like girls! I’m here today to break the curse.
Comment: Ning-ge I also want a milk tea~ LYN: If you want to drink one, go buy one. What’re you asking me for? LYN: Because we were filming today, and it’s also Qixi, I bought the drama crew milk teas. But this is something the actors do all the time! It’s really not worth mentioning- because the crew works hard and they take very good care of you, so spending money on them like this is not going to affect your way of life (aka break the bank). It’s spreading some warmth on a holiday. It’s just that simple. Not worth mentioning.
Comment: Is this your house? LYN: No, I don’t have a house. LOL. I have one in Dandong, but not out here. Not yet. This is a hotel. Comment: No way. LYN: What? There’s no way I can’t have a house? You must be new here, because I’ve said before I’m not particularly interested in owning a house. I have one in Dandong because it’s my hometown. But other places.... first- if i buy a house in Beijing, I’m not qualified and also- I can’t afford it. Comment: /advises him to buy a house in five years/ LYN: Uh... I’ll keep working on it.
Comment: How long are you streaming for? LYN: I can spend the new year with you, that’s no problem for me. What matters is if YOU can handle it or not. Like, if you tell me to stream until 5am, I can do it. But I fear that you won’t be able to take it. Life is already so hard, why do we have to make it harder on ourselves?
LYN: What I’m afraid of is letting you down. I feel like people start waiting for me at 6pm, wondering if I’ll stream or not. I saw your messages, but I wasn’t done with work yet. Later, I thought I really should come and spend some time with you. But! I hope that if I really didn’t stream, you could be understanding. I feel like I’m under surveillance. Not to the degree that I can’t live my own life, but just that I’m under watch. LYN: I don’t need my own space. My room is my space. But once I leave here- when I go to work and when I’m off- everyone’s always watching me. Like, if I finished up around 7pm and you see me come to the hotel, I’ll feel pressured wondering if you are waiting for me to stream. Sometimes it’s not that I DON’T want to stream, but that I have work to do that I can’t tell you about and I’ll feel pressure. But please know that I know when I can stream and when I can’t- and if I can’t then it means that I have something else to do. Comment: You don’t owe us. LYN: I feel like I do. Just a little. I feel like I’ve come this far today because of the fans- not because I’m so cool - or I’m such a great singer - or I’m a great actor - although some of it does have to be attributed to my talents. :) But without the fans I wouldn’t be anyone. Just some dude in Dandong. LYN: I do my best to repay the kindness. If my friend treats me to a meal, I’ll have to find some time to treat them back. If they help me one time, I’ll find a time to help them in turn. That’s how I feel. So seeing my fans silently supporting me, then I will do what I can to pay them back. This is the basics. So sometimes I do feel guilty. I want to do my part in making this process (of chasing stars) a happy one for you. LYN: Oh no, how did the atmosphere get like this. How about starting from now I talk back at you guys? Comment: Ok. I’m ready. >:]
---
LYN: You want to hear about the entertainment industry, from me, as an actor? I’ll answer your questions two ways- the industry way and what I want to say. Only believe about 20% of these answers, ok? If you trust too much, then you’re a little too naive.
Comment: Your bangs are messed up. LYN: Not important. I didn’t get here because of my looks. ... Then what did I get here by? My singing? Just normal though. How did I get here? My fans. :)
Comment: Can you catch feelings from acting? LYN: Let’s steer away from sensitive topics, ok? I CAN answer but I’m not stupid. This might implicate other people. If I said “Yes.” You’re gonna start thinking other thoughts. If I said “No.” You’re gonna think I’m not professional enough. Let’s keep it light, ok?
Comment: Is the wig hot? LYN: You’re asking if it’s hot when I wear a wig while filming? I think this question is NONSENSE. Are you hot if you wear a hat during the summer? In Hengdian?? Is there a way to NOT be hot? Sometimes it’s so hot you feel like having a breakdown.
Comment: Does your costume get washed at the end of the day? LYN: Normally they will get washed, yes. Especially the inner layers, and the pants. Even filming for a short while- everything will be wet (with sweat). The costume dept is very nice and they’ll take your clothes to wash them. Otherwise the next day your acting partner will suffer.
Comment: What happens if you need to use the restroom in the middle of a take in the middle of nowhere? LYN: What else can you do? Return to nature. There’s really nothing else you CAN do. One really awkward thing is filming in the middle of nowhere... AND there are paparazzi around. If you go and hide (to finish your business) and they happen to snap a photo of you... will they have a conscience? Comment: Grab an umbrella. LYN: An umbrella to cover your whole body?? Comment: What about an actress? LYN: ?? Go find an actress and ask them. I’m an actor! I have my methods and they have theirs! It’s not like I’ve ever asked!! Don’t ask me this, ok? Go ask them.
Comment: Will you throw up if you take wire shots? LYN: Um... I haven’t before. Why would you throw up? I know a lot of friends probably haven’t had the experience of being on wire, but it’s not as agonizing as you’re thinking. There’s two different harnesses- one a full body: like a vest with four buckles and two leg supports; the other is half-body: like wearing shorts, with the two locks at the sides. LYN: Once, when I was filming Zichuan there was a take- usually when I go to shoot I ask the choreographer if there are wire shots and on that day the choreographer said yes, that I’ll be flying in. I thought it was ok, since I’ve been on wires before. And then, once I was on the wires- I looked down. I was about 40m up.
Comment: When will you start filming more modern roles? Because your fans want to see you look cool, with nice clothes and nice hair. LYN: I don’t have plans to film any modern dramas just yet. I want to be clear with one thing before I do another. So I want to fully understand guzhuang dramas first. Modern and Guzhuang is two different acting/performing styles. I don’t really want to do modern dramas just yet, but of course if there is a good script I will take a look at it. LYN: Sometimes someone will ask me why I’m not filming modern dramas and I tell them: No one’s come looking for me yet. I know modern dramas are a lot less intense, but that’s not something I look for when I find roles. I’m not afraid of working hard.
Comment: I hope you can do modern dramas soon because you won’t have much of a chance to when you’re old. LYN: I think uh.... Have I just been cyber-bullied? LYN: But when I’m older I can act as... someone’s father. Or uncle. It’s not that you CAN’T act when you’re older. Let me tell you, you’re wrong! You should film MORE guzhuang when you’re younger. It’s really hard to say, though. LYN: School dramas, though. I think I’m probably too old for those already. Someone tried to find me to play a high school student and I told them they had too much faith in me. They said I could be one of those students who were held back a few times. XD
Comment: How do you remember so many lines? LYN: All of the things I’ve filmed so far haven’t really required too much speaking on my part. I think the Dilin role is the most I’ve had. How did I remember the lines? ... Just like how you would memorize a textbook. First I need to understand the context and my goal, and then.. I’ll go with the flow of the scene.
Comment: Does the wig get washed? LYN: Normally, it doesn’t. Or.. it gets washed very rarely. The less you wash it, the better it is for the wig, or it’ll get worn out. Comment: Doesn’t it smell? LYN: ??? WHat have you guys experienced?? I don’t go around smelling it. I think it’s mostly the smell of hairspray. How about tomorrow I go and ask?
LYN: Some people are too innocent! You’re too easily fooled. You’ll get scammed. Comment: Because I believe you. LYN: Because it’s me, so you believe me? What if I told you I was Superman? I’m not LYN, I’m Superman. Do you believe me? If I rip my clothes off right now, I’ll be wearing Superman’s suit. I’ll fly around the Earth and save mankind. Comment: You’re Spider Man. LYN: Don’t reveal my identity! Comment: Rip it. LYN: I won’t rip my clothes at my concert, but I will in my stream??? If, one day, I rip my clothes at my concert, THAT’LL be a topic of conversation. But if I rip my clothes in my stream, then I’m really nuts.
Comment: You’ve died a few times in your dramas and you also have to spit blood. What’s the blood taste like? LYN: You can choose. Some are lemon. It can be watermelon. Mango, strawberry. Anything. All you have to do is stick a flavored candy into your mouth. LYN: What does it taste like? Actually, I never asked how they make it. I’m... not very curious about it. I think it’s mostly (70%) corn syrup. I filmed a take once where I was a little sick and kept coughing. But after I did the shoot and died, I didn’t cough anymore. My cough was gone. They add artificial coloring to it. Comment: Chicken blood. LYN: ???? Do you.. want us to ward off evil while we’re filming? It’s not. How could you give an actor chicken blood?! OMG. LYN: I think it’s corn syrup or something. After a shoot, your cough will be gone but a little while later, your teeth will hurt.
Comment: Have you ever considered a horror genre? LYN: What are you implying. Do you mean to say your Ning-ge... looks like a ghost? I look like a ghost and I’m suitable for that kind of role? Is that it? I can do something a little scary just fine but true horror is out of the question. Because... I’ll be scared too.
Comment: Since your first guzhuang drama (The Long Ballad) and being kicked in the head by a horse, are you still afraid of horse scenes? LYN: How should I say this.... I was kicked in the leg. I’m still scared though. LYN: When I see a horse I want to kneel to them. Please spare me. LYN: There are horses in Hengdian that are always filming. They know human-speak. [They can feel when you’re nervous and then decide they want to bully you a little.]
Comment: What preparations do you make if you need to do an emotional or crying scene? LYN: I’ll slap myself twice. Human beings are instinctual animals, slap yourself and you’ll feel wronged. You can go “gah” and then the tears will come. Comment: Fake tears. LYN: I haven’t needed it. Because... I’m naturally quick to cry. I admit I’m manly, but also emotional. Sometimes I’ll hear a piano melody and I’ll want to cry. [Da Fei-ge is quick to get on the keyboard. XD] LYN: I personally don’t really prepare. I just go with the scene. Just drink more water, or you’ll cry yourself out.
Comment: Out of the five dramas you’ve filmed, which was the hardest? Which filming process was the most difficult or which role was hardest to get a handle on? LYN: The most difficult one (process) for me was Ultimate Note. We were up in the mountains and it was difficult to get around. Even if we went to the site, there was no saying whether we could successfully film, either. LYN: As for which role... let me think about it. All of them were hard, because I’m not a professional actor. All of them were hard. I don’t want to act each character the same way, and there’s no way they could be alike because each one of their lives are so different. LYN: Let me tell you a problem- a lot of dramas nowadays are adapted from novels, right? The men in these novels... are often MORE good-looking than the women. AY. The men have looks that even women are jealous of, so much so that even men like them. Ironically, I happen to select these roles. Some things I can put hard work into but SOME THINGS... there’s no effect hard work has on it. You know??
LYN: There’ll be a scene in the drama that praises you like this: Actor 1: So you are the legendary so-called “Most Beautiful Man” LYN: and I’ll be standing over here like: LYN: /gulps/ That’s me. What can I do for you? LYN: /sighs/
LYN: Since they’re based off novels sometimes I’ll- I can’t read all of the original, but I’ll go and look for people’s opinion of the character. I want to see what that character looks like in their eyes. [...] When the drama comes out I may not live up to the expectation people have in terms of looks but.. I hope you can be understanding.
Comment: When you’re filming, do you often do NGs via laughing? LYN: Very little. There are, of course, but very little.
Comment: What do you think about the acting profession? LYN: I’m not gonna answer this one. It’s too dangerous. I don’t dare answer. LYN: Personally, this profession has given me the chance- after all I’ve already experienced, to learn something new and work hard. I’m very happy that I’m able to do this. I won’t get the chance to go to acting school or the more traditional routes but I really cherish this opportunity to act. I hope that I can act more roles that you will remember me by.
[... t/n: I got lazy for the last bit XD]
