self indulgent doodles from my pokemon AU in which there are more swords and shit because yeah.
Also return of these outfits! (kind of)
Some AU info under the cut. Please enjoy the art!
Basically the AU doesn’t change much. Pokemon prioritizes gameplay WELL before story so a lot of the story stuff never made sense to me. This is just me filling in some gaps that never made much sense to me. Also this is a little grittier than mainstream pokemon bc I like it when pokemon gets a little dark :^)
WORLD IN GENERAL:
this AU puts trainers in a much more active role in society. Police still exist but they are more focused on criminal activity among civilians, whereas officially licensed trainers focus on pokemon related disturbances. Such as perhaps a red gyarados disrupting local fishing boats. Or an ampharos that is in desperate need of immediate medical attention.
Being in a more active role, trainers have a lot more to deal with than the few and far between civil disturbances that police deal with. So therefore; swords (guns don’t exist bc this is a comfort AU and they make me uncomfy. Also these fuckers have fire breathing dragons and shit with them at all times. They dont need guns fr)
I always thought it was kind of awkward that the pokemon fight each other while their trainers just kinda stand back and yell commands at them. SO, pokemon battles are between trainers AND pokemon. In official sports battles, trainers obviously can’t use actual swords and shit but it’s kind of like boxing. One trainer tries to get the other on the ground/knocked out or whatever. And the classic pokemon battle is a separate event.
Gym battles don’t necessarily go like this. Gyms exist moreso as like. Rest stops for young aspiring trainers on their journey. Gym leaders train these young trainers in sword fighting (sword fighting is the traditional technique bc swords are cool) and in pokemon battles.
Once you visit all 8 gyms you can graduate to becoming a licensed trainer and start taking jobs under the legislation of a gym leader (gyms also function as places to find jobs, have a guaranteed meal, and a guaranteed place to rest. Similar to the base camp in mystery dungeon!). After spending a few years doing jobs and becoming a well established, the gym leader the trainer works for can recommend one trainer to compete in a yearly championship competition for the title! Champions have authority over all the gyms in a region. Accepting or denying new gym leaders, covering expenses, expanding or renovating etc.
Oh also there’s some laws about how many pokemon a single person can legally carry on them at any time. Trainers can carry 3, gym leaders can carry 4, elite four can carry 5, and the champion can carry 6.
BUT WHAT ABT THESE FUNNY LITTLE CHARACTERS SPECIFICALLY:
Gold is your average trainer story. Left home on his journey at 17, completed it after little over a year and applied to be a trainer under Matsuba/Morty the Ecruteak City gym leader. Matsuba is a strange, strange man and not many trainers work under him so he and Gold are very close.
Silver on the other hand has so many issues. Lance has pretty much put a hit out on the families of everyone who has ever been apart of Team Rocket ESPECIALLY those who carry Giovannis name/blood. So Silver decided it would be best to just....simply not apply to be licensed and just do the trainer thing anyways and hope no one asks to see. So Silver was never trained by gym leaders on swordsmanship so he opts for a bow & arrows.
The two basically live at the Ecruteak gym and help Matsuba with day to day chores (and occasionally kicking Eusine out for being a freaking weirdo) It’s a good way to live. They just have to make sure nobody finds out Silver is living there and tells Lance or everyone working there is likely going to lose their jobs and possibly do some jail time.
TLDR; trainers play a more active role in society and fight bad guys with swords AND big scary monsters.
If you have any questions abt this AU PLEASE send me an ask. I love this AU a LOT and would love to talk about it.
