I totally agree about what you're saying about Rhaenyra and her cementing her decision to go to war. I literally felt SO sick when I was watching that scene with Lucerys and Aemond. I was ready to vomit, it was making so anxious and sad. Lucerys was 14! What the fuck was Aemond thinking? He really thought they were playing at war, when Vhagar literally threatened/burned like half of Westeros for Visenya during the conquest. And Rhae has every right now to go to war. Like, I wasn't Team Black or Team Green, but just looking back at the season, the Greens time and time again accosted Rhaenyra....for what? Being....a princess? Fucking? Like.......hello? They just kept escalating and escalating and now Lucerys is dead. I'm not saying the Blacks are innocent: Aemond lost an eye, okay (but he was rude and callous about taking Vhagar and almost hurt someone with a rock). Alicent had to marry Viserys and felt betrayed by Rhaenyra (Talk to your daddy about that, girl). Aegon doesn't wanna be king (Um, you weren't supposed to be and you stole from your sister). So again, like, I know worse shit is gonna happen moving forward because of Lucerys' death but it's like the Greens pushed and pushed and pushed because of their personal feelings and bigotry and now everyone has to pay for it. The hypocrisy of it is astounding. Like, yes, Rhaenyra lies and fucks a handful of people because she likes sex. Who hasn't done those things? And it ironically proves why women should be the successors of thrones or that there should at least be equal primogeniture, like in Dorne (if you believe in monarchies and such) . Because even though everyone is obsessed with lineage and bastardy and whatnot, Jacaerys and Lucerys were Rhae's boys. The line continues through them. So regardless if she had them with someone she wasn't married to, you know they are of Targaryen blood. So it's so funny to me that Alicent and everyone were so appalled that they were bastards. Rhaenyra was the heir. That's what matters. And even if they weren't bastards, Otto would have still done everything he did. Because at the end of the day, he is opportunistic and misogynistic. That's the truth of the matter. It's not about duty and keeping the realm safe and whatnot. He was just selfish.
And I think a lot of the men on GoL are the same. Like, family is everything, and they say that. But let's not pretend that they don't care more about being in charge and throwing their weight around. They aren't going to give up a piece of the pie to make sure their families are safe and happy. The only person I believe does this for their family is Luan. I cut him a little but a of slack but not much. Everyone else has a selfish agenda. Either people have to separate themselves from their families or they have to be ride or die, fully in it (like Billy is doing). You can't have both because these men think it's more important to rule. But they will never admit that. They will swear up and down that they do it for their families and their legacy.
Yes the two crimes, being a princess and wanting to fuck gdfgsfg. Alicent is so interesting to me because of her reaction to that. That scene where she snaps was so juicy. She has such hatred over the fact that Rhaenyra has just been living her life, brazenly doing what she personally won't or can't do.
I had to keep pausing that Lucerys and Aemond scene because I knew what was gonna happen and I didn't want it to happen!!! And the fact that it could've been avoided if Aemond wasn't such a little shit. Oooh I can't believe the next season is so far away.
Everyone's got their own self-interest in mind and that's obviously how the game of thrones works but OH I've never been so irritated at a character as much as Otto for all the things you've mentioned. Also the fact that Otto and Alicent went and interpreted Viserys' words the way they did!! Screaming. Obviously, we wouldn't have a story without that but oooh that got under my skin 😂 Like, it's not all about your family.
"Because even though everyone is obsessed with lineage and bastardy and whatnot, Jacaerys and Lucerys were Rhae's boys. The line continues through them." Hard agree!! It just makes sense that way honestly but alas... society.
So true about the men of GoL. They'll push and push and the thought of what that'll mean to their families will not be at the forefront of their minds until something bad happens to them.
