Honestly, that isn't too much difference from my own headcanons about the happy hotel - I think the redemption focus is new, but the hotel was operated prior as a sort of... crash/safe house for sinners; ostensibly on extermination day, but Charlie never actually... asked anyone to leave afterwards.

I think Vaggie is probably the reason Charlie started believing in the idea of redemption at all - Charlie knows sinners, knows that they're... an acquired taste (her words), but here's this (supposed) sinner who is kind and polite and legitimately grateful and trying to help Charlie even when still injured - she's still rough around the edges, short-tempered and tends to go to violence as her first solution, but! Clearly she isn't as bad/sinful as she was at one point, showing that change is possible! Possibly even changing enough to... not be in Hell, anymore? Theoretically? It's worth a shot; Charlie's people can't die to the extermination if they aren't in Hell when it happens!

(Also, more fitting with your own: Valentino very much seems like the type who would... not forget, he doesn't forget that Angel doesn't live in the studio anymore, but like... some days are worse? He's more aware of it? Like... Angel can ignore him, now. And on days when that happens, when Angel just completely ices him out and doesn't respond to any texts or pick up the phone calls, Valentino gets angry about it and things like episode 2 happens.)

@royalvelvette i like to think the happy hotel had been running for years and occasionally demons would stay but more to use it as an actual hotel and would leave before ever attempting to redeem themselves. angel dust started staying there with intent to leave.....but ended up liking charlie too much and stayed. plus he didn't have to pay, and he was safe from valentino as long as he was there.

as depicted in my art, he kept up his mobster persona at first but slowly opened up over the years.

of course, in the show its implied angel had only recently moved to the hotel since Valentino had only just found out, but in the pilot he implied he'd been staying for long enough for cherri bomb too think he'd died so val could just be stupid and/or angel was very good at sneaking around but anyway!
