What do Bees, Cape Air and urine have to do with each other? Read on... Another priceless moment in my flying career... Yesterday I took a cute guy on his first flight - a lovely, fun, scenic aerial tour of the west coast of Puerto Rico. On landing and engine shutdown he opens his little window and a bee flies into the cockpit. Not just any bee...a crazy rabid Africanized angry bee! It starts dive bombing us. We jump out and it makes a 'bee-line' towards my ear and manages to get its stinger in deep. The pain is immediate and extreme! I secure the plane and my pax and I race into the terminal in search for some ice or something. My ear feels like it's going to explode off my head. It is deserted in the small Mayaguez terminal except for a very nice handler at the Cape Air counter who says 'Madam I have a solution but you might not be comfortable.' 'Just tell me what to do,' I mutter as my jaw is now too stiff to open much as the pain spreads. 'Madam you must put urine in your ear, it will stop the venom.' I run to the bathroom as I contemplate how to pee in my ear. I didn't ask my passenger if he could help, as cute as he was I thought asking him to pee in my ear may be a bit much on our first 'flying date.' I settle on peeing into toilet paper and mushing it into my ear. Amazingly in five minutes the pain is bearable. I walk out with a damp head and say, 'I feel better.' The agent hands me some ice and ibuprofen. I take 800mg. My cute pax is hovering over me until I declare I feel ok enough to get back in the plane and fly it back down to San Juan/TJIG. It was tender having my headset on but I felt OK. Today my ear is swollen and itchy but it's on the mend... Flying tomorrow! #femalepilot #flyeverydamnday #africanbee #firstflight #urinecureseverything #avgeek #islandflying #sportcruiser #adayinthelifeofafemalepilot #capeair
