I doubt any public transit authority disagrees. The problem is the tradeoffs.
Every driver being paid to drive a second-shift bus is one that's not being paid to drive at peak times.
Every bus route that runs to Haleyville, Alabama is one that's not connecting Birmingham to Huntsville, or more likely a dozen routes that aren't connecting Birmingham to its near suburbs like Adamsville and Leeds.
Every public transit utility in North America except maybe Mexico City and NYC is massively subsidized - it doesn't get by on fares, it lives on subsidies of public funds with some assistance from fares. And increasing that subsidy is, even in big liberal cities, generally pretty unpopular! So the question is not, "Can this line support itself?" - we already know the answer is No. It's not a matter of "Should we do this?", it's a matter of "Is this worth what we're going to have to give up to get it?"
I think an irregular bus line to the back of beyond is not going to do very much good. And the other lines it would displace will do substantially more good.
Not to be controversial B U T. I think 3rd/2nd shift public buses should be a thing. If you work the graveyard or a 2nd shift with weird hours you deserve to be able to get home regardless if you have a car or not.
I also think that there needs to be (a) bus line(s) to and from the cities to the rural areas. Yes this also means “rural” as in those ‘southern gothic aesthetic’ rural areas.
People should not have to be locked in the cities or in rural areas, they should have the freedom to be able to move around. If you’re low income, older, disabled, or can’t afford a car (bc it’s car + insurance + gas $$) then you’re kind of stuck where you’re at and this is coming from real life experience.

got tagged by @trebhum ! (on my sideblog technically but its funner to do these on main...lol)
Last Song: Love You by The Free Design!
Last Book: Currently reading through "Now Entering Adamsville" by Francesca Zappia! I've owned it for several years but only started it recently, not sure how I haven't read it yet it's literally perfect for me
Last Movie: Eileen!
Last TV Show: Twin Peaks, seeing it for literally the first time and it's another "How have I not seen this yet this is tailor made in a lab to appeal to me"
Last Thing I Searched: Hoaxed 2019, which is a movie that I THOUGHT would be critical of spreading false information, but from what I can see of the directors history its probably more right wingers crying about how they're not allowed to lie for money. I'll just watch The Truth vs Alex Jones instead lmfao
Favorite Color: Green!
Sweet, Savory, or Spicy?: Sweet :3
Relationship Status: Currently engaged to @stygiuscantus ! (Technically lol...I'm proposing this year but we call each other "fiance" anyway)
Looking Forward: Tomorrow because I fucking pulled my shoulder today and I know when I wake up tomorrow it'll feel better and I can draw and do fun things again LMFAO
Current Obsession: Mouthwashing and David Lynch. Played MW in December, am currently obsessed with it. I saw a David Lynch film for the first time literally a day before he died. I only knew him for a day but I feel very lucky that I got to know his work right before the end, it's been really fun going through his work :]
im too lazy to tag anyone, feel free to nab this if you want :3

Friedrich von Trapp, played by Nicholas Hammond The names of the von Trapp children are fictionalized in the movie. The real person is named Rupert von Trapp, the Trapp Family Singers stopped performing in 1957. Rupert von Trapp died in 1992, aged 80, and was buried at the Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont, next to his father, his stepmother, and his siblings: Werner, Hedwig, and Martina. He was survived by his wife and six children. He was the eldest child, Rupert von Trapp, and was a medical doctor who served as an orderly in the 10th Mountain Division of United States Army during World War II. He was a medical doctor in Austria but then attended medical school at the University of Vermont after the war to obtain his U.S. MD License. He married Henriette Lejoie and raised 6 children in Adamsville, Rhode Island.
—-
At the time of the premiere, March 2, 1965, Julie Andrews was already an established star, known for her enchanting performances in Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady. Andrews brought a perfect blend of warmth, charm, and strength to the role, captivating audiences with her singing and acting.
Christopher Plummer, who played the stern but ultimately loving Captain von Trapp, was relatively well-known in the theater but had not yet reached the same level of fame as Andrews. His performance in the film showcased his range as an actor and allowed him to display both his dramatic talents and his musical abilities, particularly in songs like "Edelweiss."
The chemistry between Andrews and Plummer was palpable, both on and off the screen. While they had their differences—Plummer later described filming as a struggle due to the light-hearted nature of the musical versus the darker tones he preferred—their interactions during promotions and the premiere revealed a deep mutual respect and camaraderie.
Years later, Andrews and Plummer reflected fondly on their time working together.
