something that my tiny undiagnosed adhd child brain never noticed was just how little emily rodda gives a shit about things like "distance" and "travel speed" lol. like the first time i read the book i was 2.5 feet tall and couldn't even conceptualise a kilometer, but now i look at it and go "well either deltora's fuckin' tiny or the concept of a to-scale map just does not exist in this world".

#i mean it makes sense!#the most constant element of the map is the outline of the shore which is what sailors would pay the most attention to #but inland? they don't have satellite imaging and there're gold dragons in them hills!#just mark the general location of the super dangerous place and leave it be #actually come to think of it weren't the most accurate maps drawn by doran dragonlover who HAD access to arial views?#damn i was being flippant but now all the pieces are unexpectedly coming together #deltora quest
