I’ve been getting into all the previous Animal Crossing games recently, mostly New Leaf and Wild World, and realized the thing I missed most in New Horizons. All the weird requests and chores the villagers would give you!

Kyle asked me to fetch Penelope for him the other day, and when I brought her to his house he told her (not asked, told) she was gonna be his new golf instructor. Penelope said she’s never played and left. No biggie, right?

Only, weird thing is, Kyle had a bouquet on the table next to him when he asked and like, I 1000% believe he just totally botched asking her out.

And then, a few days later Kyle says THIS:

Dude asks me to give him something to replace the bouquet! He’s given up??? No!!!

Idk, just something I noticed. Villagers in ACNH just don’t seem to interact on their own or talk about each other as much as they did in the older games. The villagers in the older games make the towns they live in feel alive while ACNH is more like a dollhouse where the dolls periodically move on their own, and maybe, just maybe, sit next to each other. I had so many headcanons, essentially that just naturally occurred when I first started playing New Leaf back in 2014, and now as I’ve restarted the game in 2024, meanwhile I felt like I had to do a lot more on my end to have that kind of fun in New Horizons (Like looking up older bits of trivia about the characters, observing them, which is fun too, but not as fun as it just sprouting from actual gameplay. Only villager that ever happened with in NH was Biskit, but I’m pretty sure Lazy villagers are just like that lol)

Maybe I’ve just spaced my villagers out too far on my island or something, maybe I’ve just been unlucky, but I really hope they have more dialogue and interactions with each other, and with us, in the next game.

(I also hope they’re weirder and meaner 😈)

Finally finished most of my midterms (one short exam left) so I can get back to ACNH!!!

Redd was on my island today, so I was able to get the Proper Painting. Then, Moe came for a visit and gave me his photo!! I also visited Kyle’s house, then caught a pike, which was one of the last few fish I need to complete my critterpedia section. I just did some cleaning up from the time I spent away, and switched my outfit to a Mage’s costume for Halloween.

I recently dug up my two ACNL games again, to revisit them and reminisce, and it's interesting.... I've actually had a lot of villager overlap between all my games, somehow?

Like, I recruited Kyle in ACNH because of Kyle in my Twix Town. It was by chance I met him, but I still chose to nab him because of that.

I also recruited Groucho from my mom's game in ACNH, because I also have him in my town of Mystique.

I've had Biff from the getgo in ACNH, but I had him in Twix too for a bit, before he moved out.

Klaus... I think Klaus was on my sister's file, but I started my Animal Crossing experience there before getting my own, so I'll count him too.

I've also had overlap between my ACNL files though too - such as Drake, and evidently Peaches as well (whose card I own so I can eventually move her into ACNH. No I don't have a problem).

And I just found Sylvia in Twix's campsite today. She used to live in Mystique. I'm debating on whether to move her in or not bc that feels meaningful.

It's not really a big deal, nor is it REALLY meaningful. But when ACNH has 413 potential villagers, it's still interesting to me how many of the ones on my island are ones from my old games at least partially by chance. And of course this doesn't count familiar faces no longer in town, or people I turn down on islands or in campsites.... But I'd forgotten just how much overlap there already was, so it struck me as interesting nonetheless.

I wonder if I should make a joke town out of the overlap villagers if I accumulate enough of them... 🤔

I like telling people this when I trespass, and they’ve always forgiven me. My proof of this is the fact that I am not in jail, and neither is Kyle, so you know that it always works for everybody every time.

Also, Kyle’s leather jacket loooks shockingly not-sharp in New Leaf compared to Pocket Camp. I know I’m not the first to say it, but it’s really noteworthy to me.
